The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 67: Big Trouble

The Heavenly Dog didn't want to hang around Sun Wukong and the others any longer.

It is a Heavenly Dog, the dog among dogs that can even devour the sun.

But what had its days become recently? Getting its fur plucked, ridden like a mount, and pulling carts – it had utterly lost face.

"Once I devour this sun, I'll head over to some other Star Officials. They definitely won't be able to catch up,"

the Heavenly Dog thought to itself.

The Brahma Void Heavenly Court is vast and boundless; Sun Wukong and the others surely won't manage to find it.

Once it feasts on a dozen or so suns within the Heavenly Court, absorbing their power, what would Sun Wukong amount to – even the Venerable Heavenly Dog wouldn't fear him.

Thinking this, the Heavenly Dog became impatient.

It aimed for the sun above and with a leap, was ready to soar into the sky.

"What are you intending to do?"

Suddenly, a hand pulled on its hind leg.

The familiar voice made the Heavenly Dog halt, frightened out of its wits.

"Immortal… Immortal…"

It turned back trembling and saw the expressionless face of Immortal Zhenyuan.

"I…I was thinking of going out to relieve myself."

The Heavenly Dog quickly added: "I have a stomachache."

"There's no rush."

Immortal Zhenyuan, holding its hind leg, slammed it to the ground with a boom.

"My junior brother is looking for you; I'll bring you to him."

He dragged the Heavenly Dog towards the study.

The Heavenly Dog instantaneously wanted to burst into tears.

This was it; it was definitely going to be punished again.

Upon arriving in the study, Immortal Zhenyuan released the Heavenly Dog.

As soon as the Heavenly Dog saw Sun Wukong, it promptly prostrated and begged for mercy.

"Heavenly Emperor, I dare not do it again."

"Dare not?"

Sun Wukong slightly furrowed his brows and glanced at Immortal Zhenyuan's expression, grasping the gist of the matter.

This was perfect; he could use this incident to motivate the Heavenly Dog to volunteer its help.

Sun Wukong said, "Help me with something, and I'll let you off this time."

"What is it?"

The Heavenly Dog rejoiced: "I will definitely accomplish it!"

Sun Wukong spoke to Dayu, who then ordered the guards to bring forward a cage.

The cage wasn't big, only half a person tall, and inside a shadow could be seen ramming against the cage door.

The Heavenly Dog looked over to find that the shadow was a large rat.

"This is a Demon Beast we caught by the seaside."

Dayu told the Heavenly Dog: "It is linked to the Essence Blood of the Black Dragon; Immortal Dog, are you capable of finding the Black Dragon through it?"

Calling the Heavenly Dog an Immortal made it somewhat pleased.

"Bring it closer, let me have a sniff."

The Heavenly Dog had the guards bring the cage door closer, then it sniffed inside the cage.

"This smell seems somewhat familiar."

The Heavenly Dog muttered: "It's just like that blabbermouth."

A glint flashed in Sun Wukong's eyes.

"Can you find that Black Dragon?"

He asked.

"Cannot."

The Heavenly Dog was about to say it couldn't but then it saw the somewhat displeased look from Immortal Zhenyuan and quickly changed its words.

"My nose is sharp, tracking scents is too easy for me; I can give it a try."

After saying that, it went to a window and sniffed, then said: "To the east of the sea, there indeed is a similar scent."

Dayu was immediately overjoyed.

"But it's too far away, very fuzzy, obstructed by the ocean."

The Heavenly Dog continued: "Finding it might take several years."

It knew Sun Wukong would not likely stay too long, so it deliberately gave a lengthy timeframe.

Immortal Zhenyuan's face hardened, seeing right through the Heavenly Dog's stalling tactics.

He was about to teach it a lesson but was stopped by Sun Wukong.

"Heavenly Dog."

Sun Wukong's eyes were shining with golden light, exuding an intimidating aura: "Can you actually find it or not?"

His voice was so calm and cold, when the Heavenly Dog saw the golden light in his eyes, it panicked and dared not hide anymore.

"Fifty percent sure."

It answered thus.

"Why only fifty percent?"

Sun Wukong inquired.

"That Black Dragon's mana is profound; even if sought for years, its trace might not be found."

Heavenly Dog replied, "Since I achieved my Dao, I can sense aromas for ten thousand miles, but to track such a being is beyond natural gift."

"You have the talent; I shall find an Immortal Law to complement you."

Sun Wukong said, "I have perused the Heavenly Book, amongst which are three thousand great Tao; if you sincerely submit, one can be imparted to you."

The Heavenly Dog was startled, hastily kneeling.

"I am willing to submit."

Sun Wukong asked again, "Are you truly willing?"

"Truly."

The Heavenly Dog immediately responded.

This time, failing to flee, it thus abandoned the idea.

Sun Wukong had been quite decent to it; only Immortal Zhenyuan liked to toy with it.

If Sun Wukong was willing to teach it the Tao, then enduring was nothing; what was there to flee?

"I shall trust you once more."

Sun Wukong warned, "This is the last time."

The Heavenly Dog lay prostrate on the ground in affirmation.

Dayu, listening on the side, couldn't help but speak up.

"Heavenly Emperor."

He bowed to Sun Wukong, asking, "May we also listen to the Tao?"

"You too wish to listen?"

Sun Wukong shook his head, "That is the way of immortals, for you it might be too arduous."

Dayu's face immediately showed disappointment.

"However, I can tell you about some common cultivation methods."

Sun Wukong then said.

Dayu instantly perked up, "When will the Heavenly Emperor begin? I'll make preparations."

"No time should be lost; let's say the day after tomorrow."

Sun Wukong answered.

Dayu then joyously went to make arrangements.

Sun Wukong began to expound the Tao to the Heavenly Dog, continuing for two days until Dayu's preparations were nearly complete, only then did Sun Wukong cease the lecturing, leaving the dog to cultivate on its own.

Dayu had prepared a celestial platform for Sun Wukong.

The platform lay to the east of Yu City; resplendent and magnificent. Upon Sun Wukong's arrival, there was already a sea of humanity.

Tens of thousands from the Human Clan gazed upon Sun Wukong with fervent eyes.

"How did it become like this?"

Upon seeing a golden path leading from the crowd straight to the platform, Sun Wukong couldn't help sighing inwardly.

He was only going to discuss some common Daoist Skill, yet Dayu arranged it with such grandeur, inadvertently making him feel stingy.

Yet the beings of this world were so declined, even if he spoke of the great Tao, few would comprehend.

"What should I do?"

While pondering, Sun Wukong stepped onto the platform.

Upon his stepping, the platform burst into a radiant glow, with spectral Heavenly Dragons coiling amongst the clouds, their aura mighty and awe-inspiring.

"The Heavenly Emperor!"

"He truly is the Heavenly Emperor!"

Upon seeing this scene, the crowd knelt in unison.

Sun Wukong was stunned for a moment before coming to a realization.

The platform was where mortals worshipped the heavens, and what were the heavens?

The heavens were him!

"It is indeed so..."

From afar, seeing this, Immortal Zhenyuan sneered, "What a cunning plan indeed. Dear brother, even unwillingly, seems destined to take over Brahma Void Heavenly Court."

Clearly, this world had acknowledged Sun Wukong as the Heavenly Emperor.

Only then could such a scene emerge.

However, the pair from Nan Ming was also surprised.

"Our master never planned for the Heavenly Emperor to take over the Heavenly Court necessarily."

They said, "Such reaction from the platform might be an intrinsic reaction from the Star Palace itself."

"Then it's even more remarkable."

Immortal Zhenyuan, stroking his beard, wore a worried look: "Dear brother is conquering the world ever faster."

He had done nothing, yet how had this world acknowledged him?
