The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 68: No Difference

Sun Wukong sat cross-legged on the Mount Tai platform.

He began to teach, his voice resonating with heaven and earth, drawing in rosy light and auspicious air, accompanied by a shower of blossoms.

The miraculous phenomena of heaven and earth accompanying him surprised everyone once more.

Tens of thousands held their breath in silence.

Sun Wukong's voice once again wrought miracles, transforming into Immortal Talismans, floating in the sky, bright and dazzling, emitting the essence of the Tao.

They possessed a clear power, soothing everyone's heart and mind, concentrating on his teachings.

Mount Tai began to illuminate, forming a colorful mist of Auspicious Clouds made of Immortal Talismans, which blanketed the land for thirty miles.

Everyone was shrouded in the Auspicious Clouds, only to perceive various visions of cultivation in front of them, the air filled with exotic fragrances.

This teaching of Sun Wukong lasted an entire day.

When he stopped, the surrounding Human Clan were still immersed in the Tao.

He scanned the crowd; many were shimmering with light.

"Some do have commendable potential," he thought to himself, and with a flicker of thought, Immortal Talismans rained down on everyone within thirty miles.

Those with light received more, those without received less, but men and women, old and young, all received their share.

As the Immortal Talismans descended, everyone was awakened from the Tao.

Though they had not eaten or drunk for a day, when the Human Clan came back to their senses, they all felt refreshed and comfortable throughout their bodies.

Those who were ill found their old ailments cured, the injured were healed, and even the elderly felt rejuvenated with vigor.

This was indeed a miracle!

People were ecstatic, kneeling on the ground to express their gratitude to Sun Wukong.

And those chosen few who received numerous Immortal Talismans had indescribable principles of the Tao imprinted in their minds and repeatedly thanked Sun Wukong.

A day's teaching cost Sun Wukong little, yet he won the support of the Human Clan.

Dayu, having listened to the Tao, seemed to rejuvenate by ten years and joyfully invited Sun Wukong back to the Imperial Palace.

When Sun Wukong returned to the Imperial Palace, he taught the Howling Celestial Dog for several days.

After mastering the Great Method, the Howling Celestial Dog decided to seek out the Black Dragon.

On this clear night with a bright moon and gentle winds, Sun Wukong and his entourage left Yu City.

"Do you really think you can find that Black Dragon?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan still had his doubts.

"Of course."

Filled with confidence, the Howling Celestial Dog said, "Tonight the air is so clear, I could smell someone fart from a thousand miles away."

"What's the need to concern ourselves with farts?"

Immortal Zhen Yuan couldn't help but laugh: "Besides, whose farts could travel a thousand miles?"

"This is the Supreme Immortal Technique, how would you understand?"

The Howling Celestial Dog glared at him in annoyance.

Immortal Zhen Yuan's expression turned cold, and Sun Wukong interjected: "Heavenly Dog, quickly track the Black Dragon."

"Yes."

The Howling Celestial Dog shifted his attitude and chanted, "Boundless are heaven and earth, tracking across thousands of miles," then began to sniff around.

Immortal Zhen Yuan looked at its actions: "I've never seen such Divine Skills."

"It's the Howling Celestial Dog's signature move."

Sun Wukong replied.

"So it's that one!"

With understanding, Immortal Zhen Yuan acknowledged that the Howling Celestial Dog was an outstanding Demon, but it was not of a high enough status to catch his eye.

"So it's nothing more than a dog's nose," thought Immortal Zhen Yuan, no longer taking it seriously.

He watched the Howling Celestial Dog sniff for a long time without results, and couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure you can find it?"

"For sure!"

The Howling Celestial Dog, slightly annoyed, led the group to the East Sea.

However, as soon as they reached the seaside, it suddenly changed direction.

"It's not here."

The Howling Celestial Dog said, "It has made its way to the West Sea."

Sun Wukong and his companions flew toward the West Sea.

Before reaching the West Sea, the Howling Celestial Dog corrected itself: "It's gone to the South Sea."

The group then flew towards the South Sea.

Yet before reaching the South Sea, the Howling Celestial Dog again said the Black Dragon had returned to the East Sea.

Immortal Zhen Yuan became furious: "Where exactly is that Black Dragon?"

"It moves too swiftly."

The Howling Celestial Dog answered, "We can't catch up with it."

"No matter, we'll intercept it mid-route."

Sun Wukong declared.

They headed for the border between the East Sea and the West Sea.

Such actions triggered a hearty laugh from the Black Dragon at the bottom of the sea.

"These fools, do they really think I cannot see them?"

The Black Dragon laughed heartily; he had been in charge of the ocean for tens of thousands of years, had countless spies, and no one could escape his surveillance.

No matter how Sun Wukong and the others searched, he could always sense them ahead of time and change direction.

This pursuit and evasion lasted another two days, and Sun Wukong and his companions came up empty-handed.

The Black Dragon gradually let down his guard.

"That Heavenly Emperor is not so formidable as the rumors suggest."

Thinking this, it became lax for a moment and happened to run into Sun Wukong while moving through the sea.

"Finally found you."

Sun Wukong said in front of him.

Seeing Sun Wukong, the Black Dragon noticed he was very young, yet he radiated a majestic aura, shimmering with golden light, and his presence was intimidating.

This made the Black Dragon's scalp tingle and his soul shiver.

"How come you are here?"

The Black Dragon asked.

He had clearly seen Sun Wukong and the Heavenly Dog thousands of miles away; how could he be here now?

Could there be two Sun Wukongs in the world?

"I can perform the tracking spell, as well as that Heavenly Dog."

Sun Wukong replied.

The Heavenly Dog was just a distraction; the one really searching for the Black Dragon was him.

He had split off an incarnation to act with the Heavenly Dog, while his true form searched for the Black Dragon alone.

However, upon seeing the Black Dragon, a sigh with a shimmer of golden light escaped from Sun Wukong's eyes: "It was an unnecessary effort."

He had suspected that finding the Black Dragon was challenging because it was the Buddha Beads, which was hard to locate.

However, this Black Dragon before him was not the Buddha Beads themselves; Sun Wukong didn't need the help of the Heavenly Dog and would have found it eventually given more time.

"Why do you have a similar aura to those Buddha Beads?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Why should I tell you?"

The Black Dragon retorted.

Nevertheless, it still indicated that it and the Buddha Beads were crafted by the same venerable being with the same spell, differing only in their original forms, naturally resulting in similar auras.

"So that's how it is."

Sun Wukong saw clearly that the Black Dragon's power was not as great as the Buddha Beads'; its original form was just a tree branch.

"For these tens of thousands of years, why have you not shown yourself to the public?"

Sun Wukong continued to inquire.

"If you have seen me, why bother to ask knowingly!"

The Black Dragon was furious.

Although it did not want to answer, its nature made it unable to suppress its burning rage.

"I did not intend to hide, but because rumors swell and spread, I have become known as a Black Dragon."

The Black Dragon said.

If people knew it was merely a black snake, how much less imposing would that be!

"Is it just for that reason?"

Sun Wukong was somewhat incredulous.

"Of course."

The Black Dragon affirmed.

Sun Wukong was at a loss for words. He had guessed this reason but did not want to believe that the Black Dragon would keep hiding until now for such a trivial matter.

"The name of the Black Dragon carries too many sins; it is fortunate that you are actually a black snake."

A thought flashed in Sun Wukong's mind, and he spoke: "If you wish, I can help you cleanse your sins."

The Black Dragon suddenly became vigilant.

"What are you planning to do?"

It asked.

"Tell me about that Venerable."

Sun Wukong's eyes flickered as he answered: "I will let you leave this world."

Upon hearing this, the Black Dragon couldn't help but laugh loudly.

"Are you trying to probe how I differ from those Buddha Beads?"

He shook his head and said: "You all are ignorant and cannot see the truth. If you want to fight, then fight; why waste words!"

Sun Wukong felt somewhat regretful.

He was indeed probing the Black Dragon.

But this guy's attitude was no different from that of the Buddha Beads.
