The Supreme Beauty Fell in Love with Me

Chapter 017: First Day at Work

"Why?" The younger brother asked, puzzled.

"Just wait and see." Long Wu, chomping on a cigar, said, "The best is yet to come."

The two six-wheeler trucks were driven back to Changlin Community by Lin Chuan and his crew, to that antiquated factory, spick and span, where Zhou Kai and other young brothers from the Changlin Community cleaned every day. This state-owned enterprise, once glorious and home to tens of thousands of workers, now lay in ruins, with much of its land sold off. Only this plot remained, its roof with several holes through which, when it rained, heavy rain fell outside and light rain inside.

Zhou Kai was thrilled beyond belief, never expecting to get his hands on the two six-wheelers so easily. Given the current frenzied growth in the real estate market, one six-wheeler working twelve hours a day could easily make over a thousand. If two people took turns driving in shifts for twenty hours a day, earning over two thousand was no problem. That would be fifty or sixty thousand a month, and with two vehicles, over a hundred thousand. Of course, this was assuming there was enough work available.

"This is freaking awesome." Zhou Kai admired the two mighty beasts, Dongfeng Mighty Gods, each one a muscle machine.

"Damn, with these two trucks, we're going to make a good sum!" Lu Dapao jumped down from the truck, excitedly saying: "Chuanzi, how could Long Wu bear to give these treasures to you?"

"Heh heh..." Lin Chuan grinned, "It's a long story. Let's talk about how we're going to get some work in the future."

"Chuanzi, rest assured, with trucks like these, are we ever going to worry about not having work?" Zhou Kai sneered, "We brothers will give it our all and definitely earn tens of thousands a month."

Lin Chuan took a profound look at the dilapidated factory, sprawling over a thousand square meters, vast and empty, the concrete floor pitted and scarred by the drip of water over time. It would be such a waste if this enormous space wasn't put to good use.

"Zhou Kai, find someone to fix this place up later," Lin Chuan chuckled. "I like this place. Let's make it our hangout spot."

"Sure thing," Zhou Kai replied ecstatically. "I've always thought the same, just lacked the money. Now with a hundred thousand in cash, we have enough to refurbish it."

Stored inside were some of the heavy machinery left over from the Changlin Factory, some of which were imported. Sadly, due to the difficulties in operating a state-owned enterprise and the collapse of the factory, these machines had been sold as scrap. The remaining few had been forgotten here.

It wasn't long before Zhou Kai had workers cover the roof with transparent glass tiles that provided good lighting and were also durable. The inside of the factory was leveled out as well. From now on, this would be the gathering place for the brothers. It could not only accommodate the large six-wheelers but also serve as a repair shop. After all, it's inevitable for vehicles to encounter issues occasionally.

......

Monday arrived in the blink of an eye, the day Lin Chuan was set to start his new job.

That day, Lin Chuan got up early, brushed his teeth, washed his face, ate the breakfast his mother had prepared, then put on a standard camo outfit. He strode out toward the community gate and hopped into his car, driving towards the City Committee and municipal government building.

As the car approached the entrance of the municipal government building, the gate security quickly opened the electronic gate. Lin Chuan was taken aback, not expecting such treatment. He rolled down the window, beaming as he returned the salutes of the security guards.

"Damn, even a lousy driver's putting on airs." A guard at the door muttered discontentedly.

"Haven't you heard that even a dog can wag its tail?" Another guard chuckled, saying, "Don't bother with such a dog."

After parking the car, Lin Chuan curiously stepped into the City Committee building. This brand-new city committee building, completed less than three years ago, was clad in gold-tinted glass, looking both spectacular and majestic. Some say that the luxury level of government buildings reflects the economic condition of a city. It's a pity that such claims have gradually been undermined by luxurious buildings in impoverished counties.

"Stop right there." As soon as Lin Chuan stepped into the building, he was immediately stopped. The person eyed Lin Chuan warily and said, "This isn't the office for petitions. If you want to petition, go to the petitions office. Don't cause trouble here, or we won't be polite!"

"Misunderstanding, I'm here for work," Lin Chuan replied awkwardly. "Um... I've just been hired."

"Follow me." Still doubtful, the person led Lin Chuan to the human resources office to verify his claim.

Indeed, the HR office found Lin Chuan's resume. The person responsible for receiving Lin Chuan was a middle-aged man who glanced at him and asked, "Are you the new driver Secretary Tang hired?"

"Yes, yes, yes." Lin Chuan immediately nodded upon hearing 'driver'.

"Alright!" the other man nodded. "Since Secretary Tang hired you, we'll make an exception. Sign here."

Lin Chuan obediently signed his name. Then he received a phone and a specialized car key just for the driver. He was advised, "Brother, since you'll be Secretary Tang's driver, work hard. While you're not a formal employee, you'll have a monthly salary of three thousand, benefits included, and double pay for overtime. Altogether, five thousand a month is no problem!"

After a string of persuasive words, the man suddenly warned, "However, you must be on call 24 hours a day, and your phone must never be turned off. Otherwise, you'll be dismissed."

"Don't worry. Absolutely no problem," Lin Chuan assured solemnly.

"Alright then." The man waved his hand and said, "Let me take you to the rest room."

The break room they mentioned is a designated office for drivers, where many leaders from the City Committee, including deputy bureau-level officials, are provided with dedicated cars and chauffeurs. These drivers all gather in the break room, boasting and playing cards when there's nothing else to do, as long as they don't overdo it.

Following the man, Lin Chuan entered the break room. It was smoky and murky inside, with over a dozen people crowded in. Some were playing Fight the Landlord, while others were bragging. The first impression it gave off wasn't great. Lin Chuan held his nose as he walked in.

"This is Secretary Tang's driver, Lin Chuan. Everyone, please take good care of him in the future," the man called out to the room, then turned and left.

However, everyone in the room stopped what they were doing and turned to look at Lin Chuan with curiosity. Their eyes revealed confusion, bewilderment, and even envy and admiration. A common question seemed to pop into their heads: What's so special about this guy that Secretary Tang chose him as his driver?

As if becoming the center of attention, Lin Chuan felt a bit uncomfortable.

Two muscular men, over one meter eighty in height, slowly approached Lin Chuan.

"Are you the kid Secretary Tang chose to be his driver?" One of the brawny men with a stern face asked coldly.

"That's right," Lin Chuan responded neither arrogantly nor submissively.

"Since you're new here, you should go through the procedure according to our rules," the muscles on the stern-faced man's face quivered.

"What? You want to bully the newcomer?" Lin Chuan scoffed disdainfully.

"Guys like you, if you were in the military, I wouldn't even know how many of you I'd have killed by now," the brawny man sneered, "If you want to step through this door, there are two ways: first, defeat the two of us; second, heh, crawl under my crotch."

Lin Chuan glanced at the two men and saw that a crowd had gathered behind them to watch the excitement. There were whispering and some onlookers who stood in the corners with cold eyes. It seemed that quite a few people had been bullied by these two goons before, so the crowd was used to such scenes.

"Then I'll choose a third way," Lin Chuan replied.

"What?!" The two muscular men, strong in limb and simple in mind, didn't grasp the meaning immediately.

"Let you two crawl under my crotch," Lin Chuan enunciated each word, his voice strong and resonant.

Wow...

The scene burst into an uproar. Everyone held their breath, and even those who didn't have a stake in the matter came over. Lin Chuan's words had stunned them all. The two muscular men seemed to be taken by surprise for a moment, exchanging glances with each other.

"Damn it!" The muscular man in the white shirt cursed angrily, "You're looking for death!"

As he spoke, the white-shirted muscular man swung his fist towards Lin Chuan. His punch was quick and powerful as the sound of the wind whistled past Lin Chuan's ear. Lin Chuan skillfully dodged the punch like a nimble fish and swiftly maneuvered behind his aggressor.

Bang...

Suddenly, Lin Chuan struck like lightning. He hooked his hand around the man's neck and kicked hard into his buttocks, causing the aggressor to lose balance. Gripping his neck tightly, Lin Chuan flung the white-shirted man around like a fish on a cutting board, utterly at Lin Chuan's mercy.

"Son of a bitch!" The stern-faced man could no longer stand by and watch, throwing caution to the wind about picking on the few with the many, he gritted his teeth and charged forward.

Lin Chuan immediately let go of the white shirt and met the charge of the stern-faced man. The man openly brandished his electric baton. It was the only self-defense tool they were allowed to carry, as they were not just drivers but also acted as bodyguards.

Sizzle...

The man flicked the baton, and a hundred thousand volts of electricity crackled with blue light. Lin Chuan suddenly stood still.

"What's the matter? Scared?" The stern-faced man gritted his teeth, "Let me tell you, I've modified this baton to increase the voltage. Heh heh, soon you'll get to smell roasted meat off your own body."

"I want to see who ends up as the roasted meat!" The corners of Lin Chuan's mouth tipped up slightly, with an suave lock of hair over his forehead.

"Fuck, die!" The stern-faced man swung the baton fiercely at Lin Chuan.

Whoosh...

Lin Chuan, like a ghost, moved swiftly, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye. The stern-faced man's gaze sharpened as he immediately locked onto Lin Chuan's trace. His legs slid across the ground, and he charged towards Lin Chuan while raising the high-voltage baton in his hand.
