The Supreme Beauty Fell in Love with Me

Chapter 337: Jungle Skirmish

Zhou Rui muttered a few words, seemingly saying nothing much. Despite Silver Fox's assurances about how formidable Lin Chuan was, Zhou Rui couldn't shake the worry in her heart.

The vehicles in front became fewer and fewer, and it seemed their turn to be inspected would come at any moment. Silver Fox felt increasingly anxious. Once it was their turn for inspection, danger would be imminent. Only one car remained in front of them. Silver Fox grew nervous.

Soon, the car ahead passed through for inspection, and she became even more anxious. Nevertheless, she steadfastly believed that Lin Chuan would appear.

Suddenly, a shadow darted through the darkness.

Ratatat...

A spray of gunfire followed, and the soldiers at the checkpoint immediately fell one after another.

"Damn, Lin Chuan has shown up, Lin Chuan has shown up!" Several soldiers bellowed furiously.

Beep beep beep...

Then, the soldiers on guard duty instantly blew their whistles. As the whistles sounded, patrolling soldiers within the town charged madly in this direction.

"Now's the time!" Seeing this, Silver Fox slammed her foot on the gas pedal.

Roar...

Under full throttle, the Prado's sport mode caused the tires to rub against the ground, leaving black marks and emitting a sharp burnt smell.

But Silver Fox couldn't care less, driving the car crazily forward. She rammed into two soldiers, catapulting them through the air. Then the vehicle swerved aside. Those two soldiers were crushed into a pulp on the spot. However, the soldiers at the scene didn't have the luxury to care about these cars running amok; they were all focused on how to encircle and suppress Lin Chuan. He was their target persona. As for these wildly escaping cars, they had no intention of intercepting them.

After ambushing and killing a patrolling soldier in the darkness, Lin Chuan snatched his firearms and clothes, making his silent approach towards the checkpoint. He waited until Silver Fox's car was just past beauty before he made his move. He had considered one thing: if there were cars in front of the Prado, even if he acted, Silver Fox might still be stuck in the middle, unable to escape. So, he waited for the right moment to strike.

Lin Chuan's actions drew the fierce besiegement of many soldiers.

"Capture Lin Chuan alive!" Eagle led his men and was the first to arrive at the scene. Lin Chuan hid in a ditch. This ditch was the source of water introduced to Headless Town from outside, and the water was clear. However, it was nearly five in the morning, and the water was bone-chillingly cold.

The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder, and Lin Chuan meddled with his magazine. The thirty-bullet magazine now had just over ten bullets left. If these bullets were used up, he would likely be out of both ammo and luck.

As the footsteps drew closer, Lin Chuan decisively leaped from the ditch. Grasping the firearm, he unleashed a furious spray of gunfire at his opponents.

Over ten bullets poured out.

The bright muzzle flashes illuminated Lin Chuan's tall and imposing figure, casting a light that felt overwhelmingly radiant.

Zhou Rui sat in the passenger seat and turned her head to look back at Lin Chuan. Through the darkness, she could see Lin Chuan's tall figure amidst the red glow of gunfire. The bullets from his firearm poured out like crazy, and his opponents fell like crops to a scythe.

Lin Chuan's face, illuminated by the fiery red light, was clear and resolute, his eyes revealing a touch of murderous intent. It was as if he embodied an unbending spirit that could not be breached.

Zhou Rui watched, dumbstruck. This was a side of Lin Chuan she had never seen before.

In Zhou Rui's mind, Lin Chuan had always been a big brother next door and typically a tender-hearted man. Today, she finally saw the tough side of this tender-hearted man. In a daze, Zhou Rui thought, isn't this the man she had been looking for? After searching for him tirelessly, she would turn around to find that he was right where the lights were dimmed.

She liked Lin Chuan.

Indeed, she liked the memories of Lin Chuan from her childhood; his gentleness, his elegance, his attentive care. Now, she discovered that this tender-hearted man also had such a tough side. In her trance, there was an illusion.

Many times, she thought she should find a man who could bravely march to death on the battlefield, yet could also attentively and gently cook in the kitchen. And now, she already had one, right by her side. At that moment, Zhou Rui's heart fluttered. She found that her liking for Lin Chuan had turned into deep love.

The car sped forward, and Lin Chuan's figure became more and more distant, until he was no longer in sight.

............

After emptying a magazine, Lin Chuan threw away the heavy rifle and then rolled into the ditch, quickly fleeing upstream through the water.

"He's out of bullets, don't let him escape!" Eagle roared.

"Chase him!" Behind him, Old Si crouched, swiftly pursuing with his long gun in hand.

The soldiers under Black Bear also chased after Lin Chuan at breakneck speed.

Eagle looked at the corpses littering the ground and gritted his teeth: "Son of a bitch, this guy has killed so many of our brothers, he's gone too far. We must either kill him or capture him today!"

"Boss, we must capture this guy alive," Old Si said through clenched teeth. "We'll use his blood to commemorate the spirits of Old Two and Old Wu in heaven, and use his head as our chamber pot."

Eagle chuckled coldly, "That's right, catch him alive."

The pursuing team soon lost track of Lin Chuan.

For upstream followed a pond, surrounded by a thicket of dense reeds. No one knew where Lin Chuan had hidden himself.

Some fifty or sixty people encircled the pond, with over ten searching through the reeds, hoping to locate Lin Chuan.

It was nearing six in the morning, the sky was getting colder. Lin Chuan was hiding in the water, breathing through a reed. The sky grew brighter, and submerged in the pond, Lin Chuan could see the searching soldiers through the water surface.

Lin Chuan felt a growing sense of urgency within; as soon as dawn broke, it would greatly disadvantage him. Only darkness could conceal his figure; in the dark, he was king. If he were to really go head-to-head with them, facing their numerous ranks, not only was he risking injury but his life could be forfeit at any moment.

In the waters of the pool, ripples quietly spread, but they went unnoticed by anyone.

The dozen or so soldiers searching were just combing through the reeds by the pool, covering a large area of dark marshland, stepping deep and shallow.

A soldier was making his way into the deeper parts of the reeds.

Whoosh...

Suddenly, a shadow burst forth from the muddy water. First grabbing the soldier's lower leg, then with a strong pull, the soldier screamed as he fell down. Lin Chuan didn't hesitate to end his life and took his gun.

"Over here!" Nearby soldiers immediately started shouting loudly.

Lin Chuan rapidly moved through the reeds.

Ratatatat…

Sure enough, his previous position immediately drew a torrent of gunfire. Lin Chuan quickly rushed toward the upper stream of the clear pool. Although there was still a long distance to the dense primeval forest, the way was filled with thickets, which could provide Lin Chuan with some cover.

"After him!" Eagle charged ahead to lead the way.

Fifty to sixty people hurriedly pursued Lin Chuan relentlessly.

Lin Chuan moved like a swift cheetah, fast not only in speed; as he moved, he also fired several shots. Typically, his shots were far from empty, always taking down one or two people. Though this did not stop the insane pursuit, it slowed the pace of the chase.

"Damn it." Eagle had to duck down every time to avoid Lin Chuan's return fire.

"Boss, this kid might be trying to flee into the forest," Old Si said anxiously at his side.

"Damn his ancestors, don't let him get into the woods." Eagle fired his gun.

But Lin Chuan's movement was very tricky; every time he fired, he could easily dodge the assault.

"Boss, we should split up and encircle him," Old Si immediately suggested: "If we keep on like this, the kid might escape."

"Fine." Eagle nodded and said: "You take people to the right and get ahead of him to block his way. I'll take the frontal forces and suppress him with firepower to slow him down!"

"Alright!" Old Si nodded.

Then, Old Si immediately led his men for a rapid encirclement to the right.

"Fire, open fire!" Eagle roared angrily.

Ratatatat...

Bullets poured out; this time, Eagle's men were well-stocked with ammunition. The firepower suppression really kept Lin Chuan from raising his head; he lay on the ground completely still, as the mound of earth above him was almost leveled by the enemy's bullets.

Spit...

Lin Chuan spat out a mouthful of dirt-mixed saliva, cursing: "Son of a bitch, are they trying to corner me to death?"

Not good!

Out of the corner of his eye, Lin Chuan suddenly saw a group of soldiers quickly encircling from his left. A bad feeling surged through him, realizing that the other side planned to encircle him from front and back, leaving him no room to turn back around. Lin Chuan clenched his teeth and decisively got up, then bent over and moved quickly.

"The kid's running again!" shouted the soldiers.

"Catch up!" Eagle waved his arms.

The crowd was energized, and a large group quickly moved in the direction Lin Chuan fled. The speed of the group surged sharply. Lin Chuan, bending his body, was limited in speed. As the distance between him and the pursuers rapidly closed, Lin Chuan fired his gun. After a burst of gunfire, he sprinted another hundred meters.

Gunfire came from behind once more.

Phwah...

A bullet hit Lin Chuan's arm, causing him to stumble and tumbled forward. Luckily, the bullet had only grazed his arm, leaving a seared mark. If the bullet had gone through, his entire arm might have been destroyed. After quickly checking his wound, Lin Chuan looked up at the nearby forest, with a glimmer of hope reignited in his heart.

Once in the jungle, even in broad daylight, these fifty or sixty people would be no match for him. Furthermore, they wouldn't be able to touch a hair on his head.

Lin Chuan gritted his teeth, picked up his firearm, and once again charged out; this time, he burst into the forest with all the breath he had.

"Damn, the kid has fled into the mountains," the men panicked all at once.

"What do we do?" Old Si arrived breathlessly for the rendezvous. He hadn't expected his strategy to fail.
