Chapter 143: The Alarming Situation

A week later.

Jun Wu and Mei Ling had returned to the Soaring Cloud Region. However, the situation inside the region had deteriorated greatly.

Many clans had declared war on the Master Teacher and the Mystic City. They claimed the Mystic Path Academy had turned into an evil force that bewitched many ignorant people.

At the forefront was the Gong clan. They dispatched many warriors to hunt down anyone related to the Master Teachers.

According to their claim, the recent widespread deaths were because of them.

In many villages, villagers mysteriously died overnight without any cause.

At first, it was smaller villages, but gradually the mysterious deaths spread toward bigger villages and towns.

Now, the people did not know what to believe any longer.

Should they believe Mystic Path Academy, which had stood for many years, birthing many renowned scholars and warriors?

Or should they oppose them when they saw the numerous innocent people dying?

Against the spreading chaos, many clans had reached out to the Jun clan to solve their current crisis. But to their dismay, the Jun Wu clan ignored them.

Towns and villages under the control of the Jun clan were safe, without any mysterious deaths.

This made many believe they might have the power to stop the widespread deaths.

But since they chose to remain quiet, fear gnawed at the hearts of many town chiefs and city lords, especially those who claimed to be neutral.

Without the backing of either the Gong clan or the Jun clan, none of the leaders dared to sleep peacefully at night.

Who knew when the angel of death would visit?

Thus, everywhere was filled with tension and fear. The price of food was sky high; merchants were scared to travel to other cities for business.

Apart from the widespread mysterious deaths, the number of bandits was ever increasing.

Every day, new bandit groups would sprout like weeds.

Safety had become a luxury that those living in the Soaring Cloud Region could not afford.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Jun Wu and Mei Ling released a barrage of attacks, killing the bandits who obstructed their path.

This was the tenth bandit they encountered on their way back to Mystic City.

Mei Ling frowned. "Those damn cultists move faster than I imagined."

Jun Wu nodded. He never expected that merely leaving for half a month would cause the region to deteriorate to such an extent.

"What should we do?" Mei Ling asked, looking at him. "We can't use the main gate."

Indeed, they had placed a bounty on their heads. Trying to pass through the main gate was like delivering themselves to their enemies.

Although they were Master Teachers protected by heaven, if they were killed, they were killed. The curse that would befall their killer would have nothing to do with them any longer.

"Let's go. I know of a place," Jun Wu said and led the way.

Around the Mystic City, there were many forests, but not a great forest with powerful beasts.

In one of the forests, Jun Wu and Mei Ling walked quickly. Staring at his back, Mei Ling was confused. Many times, she wanted to ask how this forest was going to lead to the Mystic City, but she controlled the impulse and chose to trust him.

"We're here," Jun Wu announced.

Mei Ling creased her brow and looked at the small cliff. They were at the foot of a small cliff, thick undergrowth everywhere with some trees.

She could not fathom how this was going to help them.

Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Jun Wu moved forward and made a strange pattern with his hand.

Whoosh!

The Concealment Array was deactivated, and a small cave tunnel appeared before them.

Huh!

Mei Ling widened her eyes, and her aloof expression faltered. Jun Wu chuckled.

"Let's go."

Without waiting for her, he entered the cave. Recovering from her daze, she followed him, her expression returning to her usual coldness.

Jun Wu activated the Concealment Array once again to close the cave entrance before they headed deeper.

To Mei Ling's surprise, the tunnel was long with no end in sight. She wondered how he had discovered such a long, complicated tunnel.

After an hour of moving underground, they heard the sound of people talking.

She gripped the hilt of her sword tightly, ready for battle.

"Relax, they are my people," Jun Wu said as they took another turn.

In the distance, two people sat behind a wooden table playing a card game to pass the time.

When they heard the sound of footsteps, they stopped their game and raised their heads.

"Stop your actions and raise your hands." One of them commanded coldly.

Jun Wu ignored their command and walked forward casually. "Where is Zhang Wei?"

Hmm?

The two men were stunned when they heard Jun Wu's voice.

"Young Master?" one of them said with a trembling voice.

"You know me?" Jun Wu was slightly surprised.

"Hahaha. It's the Young Master." The burly man left his spot and approached Jun Wu with a bright smile.

"Yes. I attended your open lecture," he responded.

He never expected that the underground job he had would lead him to work for his idol. Yes, he worshiped Jun Wu from the bottom of his heart.

"Ah, I see."

A look of realization appeared on Jun Wu's face, and he nodded. "Where is Zhang Wei?"

"Boss Wei has returned to the mansion to handle some important matter."

"Alright, I will take my leave. Continue your work." Jun Wu said as he prepared to depart.

"Young Master, wait." The burly man quickly stopped them.

"What?"

"Young Master, the situation inside the city is a bit special. I advise you to change your clothes and disguise while I send for Boss Wei to pick you."

Hmm?!

Both Jun Wu and Mei Ling were stunned.

They had thought the chaos was outside the city, but who would have thought that inside the city would not be any different.

"Very well," Jun Wu agreed with the suggestion.

It was better to be careful than exposing himself. But inwardly, he was not calm. Their enemies were moving faster than they imagined.

Therefore, he must not delay their action.
