Chapter 621: 0619 Captured Alive

"At present, the Gafura people are not daring to leave the city at their leisure, so we should utilize the advantages we have to further cut off connections between cities, turning each city into an isolated island in wartime!"

In the cave, the young man codenamed Haiyan was discussing the upcoming battle plans with everyone. Among them were not only his subordinates but also some cadres from his anti-government armed organization.

The purpose of their gathering here was to listen to valuable content from Haiyan to disseminate it further.

Haiyan's organization was the first anti-government armed group to make a name for itself—this is how the Gafura have described them. Locals in the Amelia Region refer to these so-called thugs by the Gafura as "freedom pioneers" or "rebel heroes" to commend their actions against Gafura tyranny.

Actually, was there really any tyranny?

If someone carefully recalls and thinks about it, before these movements became widespread, ordinary people in the Amelia Region weren't really harmed. Their lives weren't that different from what their ancestors had lived through, and the Gafura, for all intents and purposes, made ordinary people's lives somewhat better by trying to win their hearts.

Of course, it can't be denied that some social rules and institutions changed, for example, the Gafura mandated the switch from their old currency to using the Fla.

For example, they required schools to stop using old textbooks in favor of the ones prepared by the Gafura...

Such things were numerous, yet they weren't truly unacceptable for the ordinary people. Regardless of the type of education or ideology they accepted, there weren't significant changes in social status, roles, or values, nor did it bring drastic changes to their lives.

Those whose lives truly worsened were the previous privileged and ruling classes. These were the real victims; their power was stripped away, their wealth plundered. They refused to accept the changes in disparity, and were the first to suggest resistance.

Driven by their ambition, the first batch of resistance organizations appeared. They cried slogans like "oppose Gafura tyranny" and assassinated Gafura people, attacked their patrol teams, thus thoroughly arousing conflicts between locals and the Gafura, intensifying everything.

Now, due to propaganda with ulterior motives, what was originally a conflict between old privileged classes and current ruling classes has become a conflict between the people and their rulers.

With a series of erroneous local policy directions, eventually, all hatred was aggravated and ignited.

However, come to think of it, no one can ensure every decision is correct. The Governor of Amelia is no saint; some of his decisions are excellent, while others might have issues.

Amid the continuous intensification of conflicts, these minor issues were confused and became major problems.

Among many organizations, Haiyan's group had clearer notions of struggle compared to others. They had strong ideological resilience and effective tactics. The strategy currently being implemented was first proposed by Haiyan himself.

By dismantling the Gafura's forces outside cities, they planned to besiege them within the city limits, then gradually disintegrate their resistance through infiltration.

Initially, people didn't recognize Haiyan's war theory, as they were still hiding inside cities, wanting to drive the Gafura all the way out. This resulted in bloody repercussions from every attack.

Numerous innocent people were killed along the way. To this day, many street seam lines are dark red, a tint that rainwater couldn't wash away, soaked with blood.

Haiyan suggested leaving the city to expand strategic maneuvering space, shifting the main fighting front from densely surveilled city areas by the Gafura to the vast, boundless wilderness, which enabled these resistance organizations to achieve unprecedented success.

Now Haiyan proposed the "Island Strategy", and people started accepting and learning from Haiyan's theories, and these other organization members came to learn.

"We need to cut off all communication between every city, inciting fear from within. They're unaware of the situations in other cities and fear being attacked themselves."

"This will sharply shrink the Gafura's activity range. They might withdraw into a very small area, unwilling to casually appear before people, as they need to consider issues like assassins."

"I don't need to recover the entire territory at once. We'll first secure a small city and, using it as a development base, expand our influence until it connects into a network."

"By then, the Gafura will be in a disadvantageous position, and we'll be in a strong position..."

Haiyan's theory wasn't complex, everyone could understand and derive their insights; some couldn't help but think this man truly lived up to the name 'Haiyan', truly exceptional!

The atmosphere in the cave was excellent, and the resistance organizations had unstoppable momentum, continuously securing victories, filling everyone with a "We will win" confidence.

This also relates to the Gafura army's low quality, for no one expected the Gafura Navy to be so strong while their army lagged far behind, not even as trained as these civilians with basic military training!

From initial fear to current composure, the Gafura laid the foundation of confidence for these resistance organizations with thousands of lives. If this was the extent of their opposition, they were confident they could drive all the invaders out and reclaim their homeland!

Meanwhile, some people had walked quite a distance, crossing a hill and infiltrating nearby.

They secretly disposed of quite a few hidden sentries along the way, and one had to admit, these people were really amusing. Those instructors told them how to set up sentries, where to position them, and the distance between each; they strictly adhered to these instructions till today.

This allowed Major's men to easily ascertain all the sentry locations on the path and quietly approach the core area of this resistance organization.

"Remember, capture alive if possible, otherwise shoot to kill..."

After giving the final combat instruction, Major took a deep breath and issued the final action command. The members quickly dispersed, occupying advantageous terrain, ready to wipe out this resistance organization.

However, they hadn't anticipated that today wouldn't only have people from here but people from some other resistance organizations who came to learn. These individuals didn't adhere to the local customs, and when two of them came out to smoke, they accidentally discovered that the spot where there should have been sentries was now empty.

"And they call themselves strict...", one of them said, taking out a cigarette and handing it to the other with a mocking, ridiculing expression.

People said that the Amelia Independent Front was disciplined and had an atmosphere different from other resistance organizations, as if the Independent Front were professional resistance bodies while others were just riffraff, quite annoying.

All were living with blood on their knives' edges, so why the division of rank?

Seeing the supposed vigilant sentries gone made the two visiting members of other organizations somewhat gloat.

The two exchanged a glance, quickly understanding each other, planning to embarrass the Independent Front.

Their method was simple: play a harmless joke by claiming someone infiltrated nearby, causing a sentry to disappear.

This would undeniably make the entire organization tense, and when it was discovered that it was laziness on the sentry's part, they'd see who had noses in the air!

The two hardly smoked a few puffs before throwing it to the ground, swiftly returning to the cave, which soon echoed with alarm sounds.

The Major, preparing for battle, paused, as this wasn't part of their planned arrangements, indicating something unexpected happened.

Since the hideout cave wasn't independent but connected, to prevent these people from scattering, their operation plan was to ignite poisonous smoke at other cave openings, forcing these people to rush out through a broader entrance.

Outside was their encirclement, where they could calmly eliminate these people. But now, as it seemed, the situation had changed.

After a brief hesitation, Major decided to launch the attack directly while not altering plans on other fronts.

In an instant, gunfire tore through the quiet night, fierce shootouts and falling bodies added a tragic hue to this early summer night.

Gunfire continued for quite a while before ceasing, and the slowly emanating poisonous smoke from the cave ensured no one inside remained alive. The Major's forces then emerged from the shadows, though some stayed on guard.

After another round of scattered gunfire, the entire area fell into silence.

Most had died, yet some survived, Haiyan being one of them.

He was the leader of the Independent Front and a symbolic spirit; people protected him in the center, though wounded but not fatally.

"Who are you people?"

Bound, Haiyan looked at these armed men who were unlike previous Gafura soldiers, feeling a bit parched, a result of blood loss.

He didn't believe these people were Gafura. If the Gafura truly had such elites, there wouldn't be any resistance organizations left around here.

The Major did not answer and instead lifted his weapon, striking his gunstock viciously on Haiyan's head.

With a thud, Haiyan's vision went black as he lost consciousness.

At that moment, the Governor, having downed some drinks and laid in bed to sleep, was jolted awake by the piercing sound of a ringing phone.
