Darkstone Code

Chapter 620: 0618 A noble person

After the phone in the room rang three times, some people had already stood up and gathered around the table. Only then did Major pick up the phone under everyone's gaze.

He didn't speak; as a Major, he could already access some confidential matters and training. Moreover, he was drafted to infiltrate Darkstone Security, and he received corresponding secrecy training.

Speaking would mean exposing one's accent. Many people feel their pronunciation is quite accurate, but in reality, residents from other areas can tell their strong, unmistakable accents.

This is not the Federation; this is the Amelia Region. If he spoke, he would be exposed, so he wouldn't speak first.

Few people know this phone number. If the other party is an ally, they would speak first. Otherwise, after a few seconds of silence from the other side, he will hang up, not giving them more time for reaction and thought, minimizing the chances of exposing himself.

Fortunately, Lynch's voice soon came through the receiver, "It's me, I'm in Gafura, they don't believe how efficient we are, so I need to prove this to them!"

"Look through the recent newspapers, see if there's any important figure or organization from the anti-government forces on the front page..."

"Bring the newspapers...," the Major ordered, and the soldiers beside him immediately brought a pile of newspapers, and several people started flipping through them.

Not only were they flipping through, but in the hall of Gafura's Imperial Palace, the palace attendants were also browsing through Amelia Region's newspapers. Almost simultaneously, both sides saw the same newspaper, dated ten days ago, featuring a young, spirited man on the front page. The newspaper had added a headline to the photo—"We Will Never Compromise."

He was a leader of an organization calling itself the "Amelia Independent Front," codenamed Haiyan, who had made discoveries when the conflict in the Amelia Region escalated ten days ago.

These anti-government forces kept challenging the bottom line of the Gafura Empire. They even sent photos and articles to various newspapers and magazines, and some videotapes appeared openly on the desks of TV stations.

The newspaper dares to report this news because the opinion of the Amelia Province Governor is to allow reporting and not to stop it.

Newspapers and TV news are mediums through which local people understand changes in the situation. Restricting these media contents could certainly curb the influence of anti-government forces on people, but it would also destroy the media's credibility.

If the media lose their credibility, nothing they report will be believed by the people. If they report that the anti-government forces have been eliminated, people will still be skeptical, and the youth will still secretly leave the city to join anti-government groups or create new ones.

Therefore, the Governor's opinion is that the reports can be made but must remain unbiased, so when the official government releases news, the public won't doubt but choose to believe.

The young man in the report claimed that as long as they persisted, they could drive the invaders out of their homeland and achieve final victory, calling on people to hold on as victory and hope were imminent.

Codenamed Haiyan, this young man has become one of the most well-known leaders among various anti-government forces in the Amelia Region; his thoughts and statements always shake people, persuading many youths to join this booming cause against tyranny and invasion.

So seeing him on the front page is quite normal.

Emperor Gafura looked at the newspaper, listening to the Royal Army Intelligence Bureau briefing about this person and realized how troublesome he was.

He and his organization are hiding somewhere in the wild; Amelia is not the densely populated Imperial Capital or Bupen, where every inch is highly developed.

The population of the Amelia Region is not large, and the land is vast with sparse population, meaning there's often extensive natural wilderness and even mountainous areas. Trying to find people intentionally hiding in such places is wishful thinking.

That also explains the reason behind "failing to find them"; they are just too adept at hiding!

Not finding them means they cannot be eradicated, and will instead constantly harass, consistent with the Empire's Army's infamous characteristics of "unable to defeat" and "can't outrun," the recent two clean-up operations in the wild turned out to be very poor, as if positions were reversed!

If the Empire's Army leaves the armored train, they would be chased and attacked by the anti-government forces!

Listening to the Army Intelligence Bureau's descriptions, the Emperor slammed the armrest, "Enough!", he was furious that they spent so much money every year supporting a group of worthless people, and what's more frightening is when sending these fools to death, he had to pay another huge sum for their compensations.

The thought of those worthless people dying yet extracting compensation from the Empire was exhausting for the Emperor.

He looked at Lynch, with a serious expression, "Capture this person within 24 hours. Is that what you want to show me, Mr. Lynch?"

"You should know that I am the Emperor of the Gafura Empire; whether I am wise or foolish, I represent the face of this country, and the cost of mocking me is high, more than you can afford, understand what I mean?"

Whether it was a warning, a reminder, or a threat from the Emperor, Lynch remained indifferent, his smile never changing, "This is exactly what I want to show you; in terms of military operations, I am professional!"

Speaking as he picked up the phone again, he publicly voiced his demands, "I hope by this time tomorrow, to see news of his capture or death from the newspapers, along with his organization, and hope not to see it again in the short term. Is there any difficulty?"

The Colonel on the other end of the phone grinned, "I've been itching for a fight; wait for my good news tomorrow, Boss!"

After hanging up, he threw a burning mixture into a metal barrel and then clipped it to his belt; without oxygen, the burning mixture inside would quickly extinguish.

He strode out of the room, pinched his fingers in his mouth, blew a very loud whistle, "Gather up, losers!"

Within three minutes, all the soldiers appeared in front of him, faces slightly contorted, "There's a mission, target four, end the battle before this time tomorrow, capture or kill, any questions?"

"No questions, sir!"

The Major nodded satisfactorily, "Good, move out!"

The well-trained Federation soldiers immediately got into transport vehicles and swiftly headed towards the predetermined target.

Yes, they already knew where target four, Mr. Haiyan and his organization were located, as these were the anti-government forces arranged by Lynch.

In Amelia, there are seven or eight similar anti-government forces, some supported by Lynch, some by Mr. Wardrick, and some by Mr. Patuxian; now these resources are all in Lynch's hands.

They're willing to show some favor to Lynch due to his exceptional values in business and politics.

So from the start, this was never a fair competition.

As for why it happens to be Mr. Haiyan, this was also arranged by Lynch as the major financier supporting their anti-government forces. Lynch occasionally requests them to do things, like military actions or publicly express some views.

Initially, they might not adapt to it, but now they are used to it—releasing a statement that aligns with their interests is no longer a matter, just a silent speech!

After hanging up the phone, Lynch looked at the Emperor, "Your Majesty, within twenty-four hours, your Governor will bring you good news."

"Moreover, could you arrange someone to guide me to my room? I plan to stay in the palace today!"

Lynch's calm and composed demeanor had already won over the Emperor, who looked at the Royal Steward beside him without hesitation. The steward slightly bowed and came to Lynch, stating respectfully, "Mr. Lynch, please follow me..."

The arrangement for the Royal Steward to lead Lynch to his room was also to probe him along the way.

As soon as the two left the room, the Royal Steward smiled and praised, "Mr. Lynch, you seem very confident, do you really think Gafura's army is unusable?"

"Confident?" Lynch's answer was very sharp, "This is not a front; this is my most genuine feeling right now. My people will surely accomplish this, and I won't gamble my future on a probability I am not certain of."

"As for Gafura's army..."

"I've never heard anything about them achieving great victories; maybe you have some similar information to share with me?"

With that, the Steward found it hard to respond. Indeed, Gafura's army has no proud achievements; this small island nation has no enemies, and overseas issues can be handled by the Navy; the army is deemed useless, a shared view among the nobles!

After a few seconds of silence, the Steward recovered and continued in a conversational manner, "Mr. Lynch, you seem very concerned about the situation in the Amelia Region; as far as I know, the Federation has no interests in that area."

"I'm not concerned about the Federation or my personal interests; I'm concerned about the process of global peace."

"Whenever I realize that while we enjoy peace, others are suffering from war-induced pain, I feel very sad; everything I do is for world peace..."

After ten minutes, the Steward returned to the Emperor's side. After venting at the Minister of the Army, the Emperor felt somewhat relieved and asked the Steward a question, "What do you think of him?"

Without much consideration, the Steward replied, "A shameless person, Your Majesty!"
