"Okay! Let's go!"
Bevin finally made up his mind, intending to take a risk.
The two moved with the softest motions possible, opened the door, and walked out, arriving in front of the control room twenty meters ahead.
The door of the control room was still in a closed state, but both Bevin and Reddy were astronauts of the New Apollo 1, so they could naturally open it easily.
They first peered inside for a long while, and seeing no monsters, they continued forward.
"Whirring~"
As the command was inputted, the heavy valve emitted a slight sound and began to slowly open.
Watching this scene, the two felt extremely anxious, with a sensation as if monsters could rush at them from behind at any moment, like thorns on their back.
"Grrrr~ Growl!"
Indeed, what they feared came true; a harsh cry suddenly rang out from behind. The monster, alarmed by the sound, had already arrived.
"Fast, fast, fast!!"
Bevin shouted anxiously, and without waiting for the valve to fully open, he and Reddy squeezed inside in a flurry.
"Bang!"
From behind, a dull impact sound was heard.
At this critical juncture, the valve closed again. The black monster crashed into it and couldn't get through.
"Thud, thud, thud, thud!!"
The previous pounding sound rang out once more, accompanied by the harsh screech of sharp carapaces scraping against metal.
Fortunately, the valve of the control room isn't as fragile as the one in the changing room, at least for now, the monster had no means to break in.
Seeing this, the two finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"It... it probably can't get in now, right?"
Bevin slumped to the floor, panting heavily; moments ago, the terrifying experience almost scared him into fainting.
"I... I think so... This door is a safety valve, stronger than the ship's hull, it probably won't get through..."
Reddy, in no better condition, lay there like a puddle of mud, drenched in cold sweat.
"Let's hurry up and go, there should be a few spacesuits by the Moon rover, we can put them on and leave..."
After a moment, Bevin struggled to stand up.
The commotion outside disappeared, and the monster seemed to realize it couldn't break through the door, abandoning its pursuit of the two.
At this moment, the surroundings once again fell into an eerie silence.
Reddy went to the valve and watched for a while. Seeing it truly gone, he exhaled heavily in relief.
Reflecting on the scenes they had just experienced, a lingering fear welled up in their hearts.
"That thing seems to have grown larger than it was at first... It's now over two meters tall. Is it because... it ate Hess... is it evolving?"
"I don't know... These must be creatures living on the Moon, they came in with us... It's our fault that everyone is dead..."
"Impossible! We went through external valve pressure regulation and disinfection every time we entered or exited, and didn't bring anything back, how could they have come in! They must have been on the ship all along, hiding until they hatched now, like in the movie Alien!"
"There's no such thing as aliens! These monsters have to be alien creatures from the Moon, don't you remember those holes on the ground? They must have come out from underground! Think about it, when the external valve of the spacecraft depressurizes, the side vents open, these guys must have sneaked in through the vents at that moment!"
"..."
The immediate crisis had been temporarily resolved, and the two began to argue about the appearance of the monsters again.
It's not that they wanted to argue over right and wrong at this moment.
In fact, psychologically, both of them were in a tense state, and they needed this way to relieve the stress.
After a brief debate, they settled down for a moment.
However, they still hadn't reached a consensus on how the monsters appeared.
But none of it mattered now; what mattered was how they were going to escape.
"Bevin! Wait a minute!"
Reddy suddenly called out to his companion.
Immediately, amid Bevin's puzzled gaze, he pointed to the valve at the other end of the control room.
"What's up?"
"Look over there... That door's closed... The door we came through is also closed... So... where did the original monsters inside go...?"
At these words, Bevin stood frozen as if petrified, struck as if by thunder.
Right, since both entrance and exit doors were closed, where did the previous monsters go?
Remember, when they first fled here, they clearly saw that there were three black monsters inside.
The bloodstains on the ground were enough evidence that they hadn't been seeing things, that this place indeed was attacked by monsters.
Otherwise, Rei and the others wouldn't have died silently without even having the chance to send out a distress signal.
Before they entered, they had checked closely and had only come in upon ensuring it was safe inside.
So now the question remained.
Since there were no monsters inside and the door was closed, how did they infiltrate in the first place?
An overwhelming chill enveloped the two, making them feel as if they had fallen into an ice cellar.
"Reddy... you just said... how did those guys actually infiltrate the ship...?"
Bevin, suddenly realizing something, stammered as he asked.
