Obviously, the Black Dragon also knew this. Time was an advantage for it. The massive claws reached for Lynch, but veered off course amidst an explosion of electric light, ice, and fire, drawing an arc in front of the mage without even touching the hem of his robe. The dragon chuckled, "How long can such a ridiculous thing protect you? Human, kneel, then plead for my forgiveness. That way, when my claws pierce through your chest and stab your heart, it will be quicker and reduce some of the torment you deserve."
"Is that so?" Lightning shone from Lynch's fingertips, so bright that even the Black Dragon couldn't look directly at it. It swiftly retracted its body, trying to minimize the chances of being hit, but the intense pain from its wings still came through.
A huge bloody hole pierced through its right wing, and the high temperature cauterized the wounds, the blackened edges preventing further bleeding. Lynch looked at the Black Dragon and calmly said, "This was an unfair battle to begin with. What right do you have to bark in front of me?"
"Bark?" The Black Dragon's anger seemed to be completely ignited. It shook its body rapidly, its thick muscles tightly tensioned, like a spring gathering massive energy about to explode. Smoke puffed out of the dragon's nostrils, and green drool dripped occasionally, the thick smell of rotted earth spreading around with the hot wind.
The Black Dragon suddenly lowered its body, the rapid movement causing the Magic Array to shake violently. The entire Dwarf Cave shook in the quake, the ground cracked, and unsecured objects fell from tables and shelves. The Black Dragon stretched its massive maw in front of Lynch, and a mass of black mist rushed towards the mage, sealing off all angles. Although the Magic Array continually weakened this burst of corrosive spit, any touch of it could burn a huge hole on the skin.
Soka exclaimed, aiming an arrow at the Black Dragon's eye and shooting it, but it grazed off the back of its neck. This wasn't because the dragon dodged, as it closed its eyes when spitting and couldn't react to Soka's swift attack. The little angel merely got nervous upon seeing Lynch submerged in the acid, causing her hands to shake.
Eryies tried to use her Charm ability to affect the Black Dragon, at least to divert the dragon's attention. But dragons have strong resistance to magic, leaving the Desire Demon without any leverage.
Only Zilvra's Pierce Thin Sword burst through the Black Dragon's scales, opening a bloody hole in its hard claw. But having just exerted her full strength, Zilvra also felt weak and powerless, the tiger's mouth already bleeding under the force of the recoil.
Lynch had been pondering whether or not to kill this dragon, but Zilvra's bleeding wound made him decide. The mage pushed the force field wall in front of him forward until it blocked the Black Dragon's mouth.
"Why do you keep struggling, Black Dragon?" Lynch gestured 'don't worry' to Zilvra, then spoke to the dragon: "Have you forgotten the agreement between mages and dragons, and have become so arrogant as to attack anything in your way?" Lynch spoke word by word: "You have made a serious mistake!"
At this moment, the Black Dragon genuinely felt fear. It stared into Lynch's eyes, and in those pure-colored eyes, a confident glow flickered. The Black Dragon now understood that this mage before it possessed many ways to destroy it, and he had never feared it from the start.
"I will curse you, mage! No one can escape such power!" the dragon roared, but all laughter had vanished: "I merely fell into your trap, but that doesn't mean you are stronger than me!"
"Kill it, Lynch." Zilvra said, "The Black Dragon's power is enough to destroy any city. And they are patient, cunning, and deceitful. It's unnecessary..."
"That's true for ordinary people; Black Dragons are indeed terrifying," Lynch said, strengthening the Magic Origin's support to the barrier while walking towards the dragon. This action drew the beast's displeasure, but now it could only lay on the ground, panting heavily, unable to move. "Due to the agreement between the Mage Association and the dragons, I will not kill you, but I do not want to make any oaths with you, as such oaths would not truly bind a dragon of your caliber." Lynch's voice to the Black Dragon was like a death knell, making it feel, for the first time, the fear of being at someone's mercy. "I just need to ensure you won't come to trouble me again, and that is enough."
Lynch pulled a scroll from his sleeve, untied the three thin strings, and carefully opened it. The dragon couldn't resist but focused intensely on listening to the mage's spell, trying to figure out what kind of spell this was. Then it could rely on its magic knowledge to slowly find a way to break it.
The spell was very short, much shorter than the Black Dragon imagined. Although it didn't understand what the spell was, it did not feel any sensation of a spell being cast on itself. 'Has the mage's spell failed, or was it offset by its own resistance?' The dragon couldn't help but feel a burst of joy.
Lynch smiled, lifted the Magic Barrier, and those glowing words quickly extinguished. Before Soka's exclamation could leap from her throat, the unbounded dragon immediately reached with all its might towards the nearby mage.
Lynch looked at Zilvra, with a confident smile of indifference. However, he did not recite any spell.
