Mage Legend

Chapter 684: Legends and the Legends in Legends Chapter Twenty Connection (Part 2)

The black dragon's claw stopped just a few inches away from Lynch, as if it had encountered an invisible wall. No matter how hard the black dragon tried, it couldn't advance any further.

"Mage! What have you done?" the dragon roared, leaping up to crush Lynch with the weight of its entire body. It didn't know what kind of protective magic it had encountered, but it believed that no barrier could withstand such pressure.

Lynch raised his wand, pointing at the black dragon and said, "Stay put. Your attack will ultimately only backfire on yourself." He suddenly knocked his powerful wand with his left hand, and with a clang, sparks erupted from the clash of metal against metal.

Originally, one would have thought that at least one of these powerful magic items would be damaged, but the one truly hurt was the black dragon. Still in mid-air, it felt as if its left side had been struck by a collapsing cliff, pain shooting from the outermost scales deep into its bones. The sensation of being burned spread from that area to its brain, causing it to let out a sharp screech.

Seizing this opportunity, Lynch quickly floated backward, leaving the black dragon to crash heavily into the ground, creating a massive pit.

"Black dragon, every attack against me is as if you are attacking yourself; I won't get hurt." Lynch calmly spoke while gazing into the obstinate eyes of the dragon: "Moreover, any injury I suffer will be inflicted on you."

The black dragon squinted its eyes, the frequent pain causing it to breathe heavily. With difficulty, it spat out words from its mouth that reeked of a foul stench: "You insignificant creature, how dare you use Destiny Transfer on me! It's been lost for so long, how do you know about it?!"

"When you dragons let pride blind your eyes, thinking that you no longer need to abide by the agreements made with the ancient Great Arcanists, assuming they lacked the power to curb you, the ancient spells were still being passed down." Lynch signaled his companions to lay down their weapons, indicating that the dragon was no longer a threat. He walked to the dragon's prostrate neck, pulled an unadorned golden ring from his pocket, and waved it before those red eyes.

"In fact, some spells are not really lost. For instance, the spell to seal a dragon inside a ring."

"No! I don't want such a fate!" the black dragon's voice of exclamation grew smaller, and it had to lower its head temporarily, relaxing its muscles to show submission: "Mage, what do you want me to do?"

"I haven't really thought about what I want you to do," Lynch replied: "You are merely a small accident in a spell experiment, an interlude I never anticipated. From the moment you crossed that door, your fate was already decided."

"Mage, I only wanted to find the thief who took my treasure, not to be against you," the black dragon said. "Let me free, Mage, I've already learned my lesson. Don't imprison me with such spells anymore."

"Imprison you? I don't see it that way." Lynch placed the ring on the dragon's snout and then stepped back a few paces: "There are many powerful forces in the world, benevolent or evil, some far stronger than you and me. But know this, it's not I who imprison you, but your own recklessness and arrogance."

Upon finishing, he still recited the spell. Ever since learning the history between mages and dragons, he had imagined one day taming a dragon to become his mount. But as his power grew, his reverence for dragons waned, and he gradually forgot this former ideal. Especially after experiencing life in Hell, on that vast battlefield of blood, the value of a 'Dragon Knight' seemed insignificant.

Although this did not account to much of a gain for Lynch personally, nor did it significantly enhance the power of this Great Mage; it was a feat awe-inspiring enough for ordinary people. When the dragon, amidst its roars, gradually shrank and disappeared before everyone's eyes, leaving only a golden ring behind, Lynch bent down to pick it up.

On the smooth surface of the golden ring, a dragon's body was vividly engraved. The black dragon could only awaken from its slumber and display its mighty power again with the ring master's permission.

"Zilvra, accept this gift." With a flick of his thumb, the Giant Dragon Ring traced an arc in the air, landing in Zilvra's hand. With a brief thought, Zilvra understood Lynch's intention. If they were to face pursuit from multiple forces, she needed to at least possess enough strength for self-preservation. Especially when facing the Mage Association, having a black dragon with strong magic resistance as a bodyguard would allow Lynch to deploy his power more freely.
