After the Black Dragon disappeared, the dwarves gradually returned to normal, but still looked at the square with lingering fear. Most of the ground had been scorched by the Black Dragon's breath, except for the areas inscribed with magic lettering which remained intact. However, there was no other damage, and no one was injured, which was much better than last time.
Langda witnessed the entire process of Lynch taming the giant dragon, and a multitude of emotions surged in his heart. He was delighted that Lynch had become such a remarkable mage, capable of defeating such a beast, worthy of being written into books for future generations to sing praises; yet on the other hand, he worried about the mage's future fate. Lynch would face beings as powerful as the Black Dragon, and any slight misstep could cost him his life.
However, he never considered whether a powerful mage might bring terrible trouble, or even disaster, to Dwarf City. He had long regarded Lynch as a member of Dwarf City, a resident who could be trusted.
"Alright, it's time to proceed to the next step." Lynch dusted off his robe, then examined the entire Magic Array again. "Zilvra, it's time to set off."
The mage then began casting spells again, and the Transmission Device was activated once more, though this time no creatures like the Black Dragon appeared to disrupt.
With Lynch's chant-like incantation, bright white light suddenly burst from the void, quickly expanding into a thickness-less circular plane, suspended mid-air. In the blink of an eye, the Teleportation Gate had established a connection with the southern land of Anria, and now everyone could see the scenery on the other side through this circular plane.
It was a dense jungle, where towering trees vied for the sky, using their canopies to occupy as much space as possible amidst their mutual jostling. Only a few beams of sunlight could find gaps to reach down directly from above. With this bit of light, vines thrived all around, filling the spaces between trees like iron locks. A hot, humid air filled the air, mingling with the fragrance of various flowers and grasses, along with the rotten scent of decaying leaves and branches.
Lynch was the first to step into the Teleportation Gate, entering the jungle. Apart from a slight dizziness from the teleportation, there was no other discomfort. On the thick leaves underfoot, and on the occasional stone piles, a layer of slippery moss grew. Hearing the mage's footsteps, small insects quickly burrowed into the ground, rapidly fleeing.
"Fear aura!" Lynch recited a spell, spreading a wave of gray cold air around. This spell was similar to the Witch Demon's aura and akin to a dragon's presence, although not as powerful. For Zilvra and others following behind, such a spell had no practical meaning, but for the weak insects, they could not withstand this fear atmosphere. Lynch did not want to be harassed by various flying insects along the way.
Soka and Zilvra curiously glanced around, having never been in such a primeval forest. Milky white mist hovered at their ankles, giving them the feeling of walking on clouds.
"A thousand stones, how are there so many trees here!" Morgan complained while holding his hammer: "These things really block the view, and make it hard for me to charge! You know, we dwarves are experts at sprinting."
"And it's really uncomfortable to shoot arrows," Soka said softly, holding Zilvra's hand: "There's no unobstructed gap of 50 meters. If some monster gets close, it could be a real hassle."
"There shouldn't be any danger nearby. My vision here is unobstructed, and I haven't spotted any large creatures mingling around," Lynch said as Eryies crossed over, and then he closed the gate of the Transmission Device. Besides him, temporarily no one else could use the tool. He looked up to the sky through the tree leaves to see the sun's position. "Follow me, it should be this direction."
Lynch pointed ahead and led everyone forward. Except for the cushion-like ground making it uncomfortable for the dwarves to walk, forcing them to slow down and wait for him, only silence accompanied them.
Quickly, they discovered something unusual about this place. In a dense jungle, there was not a single animal besides trees. Although the mage's fear aura could drive away small insects, a forest without even a monkey or deer was truly eerie.
