Lynch and Yilinrui were standing in the hall of the high tower; one was bowing her head and sobbing softly, while the other was contemplating ways to resolve their current predicament. If it were dealing with an Abyss Demon or an Ancient Giant Dragon, Lynch's mind could immediately conjure up hundreds of tactics and methods; but when faced with a sobbing beautiful lady, the Great Mage was utterly at a loss.
"If Deluo were here, he would definitely have a lot of good ideas." This thought suddenly sprang into Lynch's thought sequence, but he quickly shook it away. He had no experience dealing with crying women — Zilvra never shed tears; as soon as Soka saw a delicious pastry, she'd forget all her sadness; and if Eryies did cry, it would only be because of some new Charm ruse she thought up.
"Alright, I don't really know how to comfort you. But in any case, saying something is always better than keeping silent." Lynch sighed and gently lifted Yilinrui's chin with his fingers. This was the same hand the mage used to perform complex gestures, manipulate intricate experimental apparatus, and seize just the right amount of Magic Material. Yilinrui felt that hand lightly glide over her jaw, sending sensitive and scorching sensations from its fingertips.
Then, the hand quickly left the elf's skin, leaving only a clear sensation, causing Yilinrui's heart to gradually accelerate.
"Yilinrui, you need to wake up!" Lynch suddenly raised his voice, saying, "Why did you come to the high tower? To escape everything you experienced in the Elf Kingdom? When you see that black Undead Statue every day, doesn't your heart feel troubled? Do you think coming to my flying castle will allow you to forget it all? What do you take this place for?"
This change in tone surprised the female elf, making her lift her head, her plump lips quivering as if in a cold winter. She twisted her hands together, rubbing them anxiously back and forth.
"Don't always have that expression." Lynch suddenly grabbed Yilinrui's shoulders. The elf's fragile physique could not withstand the great power of the refined gold arm. Yilinrui felt like a chick caught by an eagle, swaying back and forth involuntarily, without the strength to resist.
"Yilinrui, I have dozens of ways to help you forget everything that pains you. While your magic certainly has its own style, as a Great Mage, your mind to me is like an unlocked vault; with just a few simple Spells, I can take any part I want." Lynch suddenly widened his eyes, two flames blazing fiercely in his pupils. "You are an adorable elf, but this nearly self-abandoning behavior of yours makes me angry!"
"How can you say that to me?" Despite the pain in her shoulders, Yilinrui managed to retort.
"Yes, I am saying it, and I truly mean it." Lynch glanced around, then recited a Spell. A blue force field enveloped them both, preventing anyone from knowing what was happening inside. Yilinrui looked nervously at this barrier, feeling that Lynch seemed somewhat different from what she remembered. A slight sense of unease and irritability surfaced. Yet, at the same time, she tried hard to convince herself that staying within Lynch's grasp posed no real danger. Lynch would only protect her, not harm her.
"If I wanted to, I could make you my possession at any time. I could even erase your memories, leaving only the knowledge that I am your master, while everything else turns into a blank." Lynch whispered menacingly to Yilinrui, "Elf Miss, what do you think of that?"
"Lynch, tell me you're joking." The female elf shook her head, as if trying to shake the 'nonsense' she just heard out of her mind. But when she saw the mage's eyes, the fear in her heart only grew.
"Yilinrui, you have a great lure for me, I cannot deny that. So, you've become one of my many weaknesses." Lynch said, "Outside this high tower, there are still many things I care about and am concerned for. And a guy named Big Snake is very likely to duel with me to the death. I cannot let these weaknesses exist. I cannot ignore such a risk."
"My God, if I were an evil mage, I would imprison you, Zilvra, and others, throwing you into some unknown world. That way, my enemies couldn't use you to threaten me. But now, I can't bring myself to do such things. I am futilely trying to enhance the abilities of everyone I care about, giving them the best defense means. Yet, on the other hand, I clearly know that these are all self-deception." Lynch released his arm, avoiding Yilinrui's gaze. "Compared to your mental torment, I should be the one feeling scared, feeling terrified; I should be the one trembling in the dark night!"
