Mage Legend

Chapter 726: Legends and Legends in Legends Chapter Thirty Pitiable_2

"Not you, Yilinrui! The one who should be sobbing is me!" Lynch's hands swung forcefully, the red mage robe shaking violently, as if a blaze was burning upon him. "I'm terrified of losing any of you, I'm afraid of seeing your corpses on the battlefield. If any of your blood flows by my hands, such a scenario would utterly destroy me!"

Yilinrui covered her lips, tears streaming down her cheeks like a waterfall. She thought Lynch was the most solid sanctuary, where she could escape those vexing matters. But for the first time, she understood how much pressure a sanctuary needed to withstand.

"On the other hand, I can't avoid this war—not like you—I have nowhere to escape." Lynch looked at Yilinrui, as if seeing through her thoughts. The mage said, "Who can shelter me, and what place can distance me from anxiety? None, not at all. Yilinrui, you think you're pitiful; but I don't pity you at all!"

Yilinrui's green hair brushed against her cheek, the white robe's hem fluttering in the wind. As she glanced around the blue curtain of walls, she could clearly hear the constant sound of magic energy exploding. She reached out her trembling hand, slowly approaching Lynch's heart. The rapid heartbeat resounding from there, however, gave her a sense of security in this environment.

Suddenly, she was abruptly embraced by Lynch's arms. Her body was tightly pressed against another form.

Everything was just like in a previous dream. Yilinrui clung closely to his warm red robe, unsure whether the warmth came from the magic coat or the mage's own body heat. The body she leaned against was tense at first, but Yilinrui could sense Lynch gradually relaxing. His arms enclosed her tighter, and Lynch's head buried into her cascading hair, with some moist breath coming from its ends.

"You don't need anyone's pity, nor do you need to escape anywhere," Lynch gently said, "Those things are actually what I need."

The elf choked up, even forgetting she was still in Lynch's embrace. It had been so long since she felt needed, or perhaps she had never felt this way. From the day of her birth, Yilinrui was the Elf Clan's genius, the royal family's pride, and a standout among Prophet Masters. She was carefully protected and cared for, even Hernfurry the Queen doted on her.

Now she finally found her purpose. So her intermittent sobbing gradually subsided, eventually falling silent.

Lynch lifted his head, gently releasing his arms to let the Elf Princess stand on her own. He pulled up the hood, so that his face was entirely in the shadow of his attire, difficult for others to see. The arcane wand slowly flew back to his hand, and the blue barrier gradually disappeared.

"Yilinrui, just forget what I said earlier. Those were too disrespectful," Lynch's voice returned to a calm and serious tone, "Do you still want to live at the All-Knowing Tower?"

"It's not that I want to live here, but that I have to live here!" Yilinrui replied with her head down, her face flushed, "However, I don't need your care. I will take care of myself. And if Lynch, you need anything..." her voice got quieter and quieter until it was almost inaudible.

Then she raised her head. The shyness and troubles in her eyes were gone, replaced by confidence and enthusiasm. "If you need anything, you can come to me."

With that, she left Lynch briskly. She needed to find a place to think carefully because everything just happened too quickly, as if in an instant, the world constructed by the elf was completely turned upside down. All the explanations Yilinrui used to persuade herself to feel at ease turned into a heavy burden pressing her down until it crushed her. However, Lynch gave her a new perspective at that time to examine past times.

Lynch watched Yilinrui's departing figure, letting out a long sigh. Doing this exhausted him more than casting legendary magic in succession. However, the end result was still good, this quick-witted attempt should help revive Yilinrui. As long as the next few days allow Yilinrui to think quietly without interruptions, then the Elf Princess's emotions can completely stabilize.
