I was currently seated in my conference room with Richard, Lidaz and Vrusha joining me.
After I spent some time going through the interface and then asking Mr. Wright for a nice meal, I sent word through Vrusha to gather the other two.
"Alright, there are few different things to be aware of…"
I then spent the next few minutes explanation in detail what my plans are for Earth.
Touching on things like the portals, the planetary forces, the steward position, the integration, the planet council, and finally…
"Lastly, it seems there are a few hundred million people living on this planet outside of the 13 System Cities.
"I did not scour the entire continent planet on my little road trip, but to think that a few hundred million people were living out in the wilderness is beyond suspicious.
"Something is wrong or at least not so cut and dry and is enough to raise eyebrows.
"I'm not saying this to alarm you all, but just so you all are aware. For now, I'll be the one investigating it."
All of them gave their respective answers. Though it was only Richard who looked a little nervous.
Which was understandable.
Because of how quickly we have all been forced to adapt, it's easy to forget that it wasn't that long ago that Richard was just a project manager working a regular 9-5.
Anyway.
"Richard, about the steward position. I know you already have a lot on your plate, your workload has only gotten worse the more time passes.
"But you're not here to be my secretary, you have a life and goals too so think about my next words carefully.
"The Steward position is yours if you want it.
I trust you.
"But make no mistake Richard, the work will be astronomical in comparison to the work here. You will essentially be in charge of an entire planet and its people. Your work load will be incomparable.
"Again, you can say no."
I watched as Richard's face wound up in deep thought and I could practically see the gears in his spinning as he thought about what I had to say deeply. Which is what I wanted him to do.
It wouldn't be good at all if he accepted the position then wanted to quit two weeks in.
"You know Raizen, I've been thinking about my future for a while now. What is it I want to do. Trust me I've thought about it all. Part of me wants to just stay here in Black Cove and continue being the head of your little government.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
"I don't mind the work, the pay is good, and I enjoy interacting with all the different people trying to find new lives in the City.
"On the other hand, I think about quitting all the time. Maybe becoming an adventure and going out into the world to find my riches among battle and exploration. But honestly, I really don't like the idea of risking my life if I don't have to anymore.
"I've even considering taking the money I've saved up and opening a small theater in the City. The bars have helped with the entertainment factor, but I think a theater with full time actors would make a lot of money.
"But that's not important, the fact is, I've thought a lot about my future, and this offer of yours has somewhat helped me to make a decision.
"If it's alright with you, I'd like to remain in my role here as your right hand in Black Cove City. I enjoy it, and I want to settle down and start a family here once things have stabilized a bit more.
"Though, I am willing to work as the Steward temporarily while you find a replacement if that works."
Honestly it's a shame.
I was really hoping he would take the position, because I didn't want to have to go through the trouble of finding a new one, but I can't dismiss his reasons either.
There's nothing at all wrong with wanting to start a family, so that's that I guess.
Anyway, there's no reason to make him work in the position temporarily. I have a few hundred different options for that role. Since if I have to pick an Infernal, it will have to be Core Formation or higher.
Moving on, I'm glad Richard brought up family because I have very hard moral question to ask.
"No worries Richard. No need to worry about doing it temporarily either, I'll handle that. Though I might ask you to help with an interview process when it's time to find someone permanently.
"In the meantime I have a couple questions for you. We have orphan children in this City right?"
He seemed a bit puzzled at the abrupt shift in the conversation but he answered, nonetheless.
"We have a few, but they are being taken care of."
"Now what if I told you, I planned on going around the planet and essentially collecting all the orphaned children in every City. Of course they'd have to agree and only orphans that are quite literally alone with little to no help.
"They would then be fed, clothed, and sheltered. Not the bare minimum either, in fact they would likely live better than most of the planet. Beyond that, they would be trained in various things from fighting to scouting and even admin work while also getting plenty of cultivation resources.
"In the future, they would all eventually join the Planetary Forces of Earth."
I know that I could do whatever I wanted to do, and not a single soul could tell me otherwise. In fact, this plan of mine was likely already going to happen unless Richard here could give me a very convincing reason why it would be a bad idea.
Richard's face went through a few different emotions all at once as he digested what I said.
I'm sure he probably wanted to tell me I was wrong but then couldn't really come up with a good enough reason why it was wrong.
"Honestly, it sounds like kidnapping but this isn't modern day America anymore. Even the kids we are helping in Black Cove would've met bad ends if someone wasn't looking out for them.
"Compared to the alternative of leaving them alone and allowing who knows what to happen to them, then what your proposing will be a blessing in their lives."
Close enough.
"Alright, then that's what we'll do. I know we are taking care of the orphans we have, but if they are old enough to understand reason, then present them with the offer of joining me. For the one's that are still too young then I'll take them too.
"In the meantime, Lidaz, the responsibility of housing and training this new force will be on the Clan. Find a decent location on the Continent and start the groundwork for a district just for them.
"While that's happening, prepare a squad to send to each City and gather all orphans willing to join or too young to make a decision. Don't force anyone, and if someone speaks up for one of the kids then leave them alone.
"I'll get the portals up and running shortly, go prepare the squads."
"Understood, Patriarch."
Lidaz bowed then left to carry out my orders.
It was right then that I heard a voice in my head.
"The training of the boys and their squads is now complete."
It was Elder Zal.
Ah.
Finally.
