The Investiture: Unlimited Blade Works Nezha

Chapter 460: The Longevity Star and Nanji Immortal

After returning to the starry sky, Nezha earnestly focused on cultivation and watching live streams, which could be considered a tradition passed down from Nuwa Palace. The Primordial had quieted down in the absence of a certain person's chaos.

Many Great Experts didn't wish to cause trouble, but the mysterious fall of Kunpeng had deeply shocked them. Without fully understanding the situation, they chose to keep a low profile, as they were well aware that not many in this Primordial could compare to Kunpeng.

Unbeknownst to Nezha, his unintended actions had made outstanding contributions to the construction work of the Primordial.

Currently, he was mainly focused on three matters. The first was naturally the Journey to the West, but this was already on track and didn't require too much of his worry.

The second matter was searching for the last Hongmeng Purple Qi. This was rather a matter of luck; with good luck, it might be found during a casual stroll, but with bad luck, it might not be found in a lifetime.

The third matter was selecting his future path. He was almost a Quasi-Saint, but whether to continue using the Three Corpses Cutting Method had already been decided in Nezha's heart. Yet, if not this, then what? Would the Magic Skill that he summarized work? These were questions that required him to spend a lot of time deducing and pondering.

So Nezha's current state was cultivating, spending time with his wife, and watching live streams. Today he watched the Monkey, tomorrow he watched Jin Can Zi. The Monkey, well, could do nothing but complain occasionally, while Jin Can Zi was much more miserable.

Although his cultivation was sealed, his Spiritual Energy was like a bright light in a world of chaotic demons. Today he was determined to fetch the scriptures, and tomorrow he was swallowed by a demon; it simply wasn't the right time for sūtra collection.

Guanyin was entrusted by Old Li to be the chief planner of the scripture-fetching event and was wandering around to find suitable Sutra Collectors. Currently, the confirmed candidates include Sun Wukong, Jin Can Zi, and Tianpeng. Guanyin intended to find three disciples for Jin Can Zi, as three was a very auspicious number in the Primordial.

The Jade Emperor also suddenly took an interest in this matter and directly invited Nezha over for tea. Nezha wasn't afraid of his cheap father-in-law, so he came clad in casual clothes.

The father-in-law and son-in-law leisurely sipped small amounts of alcohol while watching palace maids dance and listening to music. The atmosphere was quite harmonious. Nezha felt that getting along with the Jade Emperor was much more comfortable than dealing with Hao Tian's original self; he couldn't comprehend why the difference was so substantial when they were the same person.

The two of them enjoyed this leisurely atmosphere for more than half a day before the Jade Emperor waved the palace maids away. Nezha graciously sat up and asked, "Your Majesty, why have you summoned me?"

The Jade Emperor stroked his beard and laughed, "It's nothing major. I heard that the Sūtra Collection event at Lingshan is still being planned by Guanyin. Is she still selecting suitable candidates?"

Nezha nodded and asked in return, "Is Your Majesty interested in this matter?"

The Jade Emperor nodded and said, "Oh dear, I've been listening to music every day. I need to find something proper to do, or else another Monkey might pop out tomorrow to steal my position."

Hearing this, Nezha fell silent for a moment. Indeed, if the Heavenly Court weren't so poor, the Jade Emperor's 'do-nothing' stewardship might actually be better than Hao Tian's constant interventions.

The Journey to the West indeed required the cooperation of the Heavenly Court; Nezha understood this well, so he directly asked, "We are short of one more person. Does Your Majesty have any candidates in mind?"

Seeing Nezha giving him face, the Jade Emperor's smile grew even more amiable.

"Previously, I had a general named Juanlian by my side. He accidentally broke a Glazed Cup and was banished to the Mortal World. By my calculations, his period of exile should be over, and I think he's a suitable candidate."

In fact, the Jade Emperor rather liked the honest and straightforward nature of Juanlian but was constrained by his original self's controlling nature. His original self's desire for control was so strong that even his Corpse-cutting Avatar couldn't share the power. He was helpless at the time, but now, he wanted to help that honest man while leveraging the sūtra-collecting event to enhance his reputation.

Nezha didn't have any negative views on honest people, so he said, "Since this person is recommended by Your Majesty, he must be of Buddha Nature. I'll contact Guanyin to assess him."

The Jade Emperor nodded in satisfaction.

"Good, good. No need to show me any leniency, let the assessment be rigorous."

After deciding on this matter, the Jade Emperor then brought up another issue: some immortals secretly raising demons for practice in alchemy and life extension purposes.

This was quite a cruel matter from the demons' perspective, but from an immortal's standpoint, it wasn't that outrageous. It was akin to humans raising livestock for slaughter during the holidays, no different at all.

At least, that was how many immortals saw it.

The Jade Emperor still had some sense of responsibility. As the Lord of the Three Realms, all beings in the Three Realms fell under his jurisdiction. However, this was not a matter he could openly address because one significant reason the Heavenly Court couldn't pay salaries was due to his original self's actions.

In discussing this matter, he had two ideas: first, how to resolve it. Currently, the immortals are behaving quite appropriately, but over time, they might fall into the Demon Dao, tarnishing the Heavenly Court's reputation.

Second was the idea to make money. Though he enjoyed listening to music leisurely every day, both Hao Tian's original self and the Queen Mother were severely injured and required a lot of treasure to heal. Although Hao Tian had enriched himself quite a bit as the Heavenly Emperor, it was still hard to sustain such expenditure.

Nezha, understanding the Jade Emperor's predicament, found the topics difficult to address. Both were complex problems; the first was bound to offend people, and the second needed no elaboration. While Nezha had wealth, it didn't mean he wasn't short of it!

Even though a lot of wealth from the Nether River and Kunpeng had filled his pockets, his daily expenses were nevertheless an astronomical figure.
