North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 600: Sudden Accident

Ruiz is indeed the supervisor now, not as easy to find in his office as before. Now Jimmy went to his office and couldn't find him.

Thinking about it, it didn't seem so urgent, so Jimmy didn't call him and casually stopped by Mahong's office to chat for a bit, then went back.

In the afternoon, Ruiz called Jimmy. Jimmy came to Ruiz's office, sat down, picked up some chips on the table, tore open the bag, and tossed them into his mouth, "Why do you have these snacks here?"

Ruiz looked at Jimmy speechlessly, "This is my lunch."

Jimmy: "Are you trying to lose weight?"

Ruiz slightly shook his head, also grabbed a few chips and tossed them into his mouth, "I went out in the morning, didn't have time to eat lunch. What did you need me for this morning?"

Jimmy: "Mrs. Mason sent someone to ask when we can hold a press conference for the shooting case, they're under some pressure over there now."

Ruiz: "How's the progress on your side?"

Jimmy: "Fudging the case closure isn't impossible, the bullet found in the shooting victim at the park matches Daniel's rifle, as long as we don't mention there are some bullets that don't match, no one should find out. Oh, but that requires a heads up to the lab side to modify the report."

Ruiz tossed chips into his mouth while considering Jimmy's words, this indeed was a way, could resolve the case in a few days, and the merit here would definitely be significant, but the risks were too high.

Ruiz: "What if we report the situation normally?"

Jimmy: "That would be a bit of trouble, although it can temporarily relieve the pressure here, the latter part of the case could be indefinitely delayed, because there are no clues pointing to a second person, once it's public, they'll definitely destroy the rifle, and in the future, even if we find someone, we won't be able to carry out ballistic tests."

Ruiz thought for a moment, shook his head, "OK, let's gather all the information first."

Ruiz picked up the phone on the table and called the tech department, "This is Ruiz, open the command center and arrange some people to provide assistance."

After hanging up, he looked at Jimmy, "Have your guys organize all the materials, go to the command center now."

Jimmy nodded, got up to leave Ruiz's office, and directly called Julia, "Julia, take all the shooting case materials to the command center. Has Mark returned?"

Julia: "Not yet, I haven't seen him since he went out this morning."

Jimmy: "OK, do your thing, I'll ask him."

While walking to the command center, Jimmy called Mark, but he didn't pick up.

The command center is not open all day, it's only used for big cases, and when using the command center, the operators are authorized technicians to handle it, normally each team handles cases in their own offices.

The computers in the command center are registered, with high clearance, allowing for consultation of many systems, everyone wants to use it, but the demand is too high, so only high-profile cases reported by each group are activated.

When Jimmy walked in, the technicians were already in position, he immediately shouted, "Guys, help me locate Homicide Team Agent Mark Anderson's phone, I just tried to contact him, no answer."

The technician looked back at Jimmy, although Ruiz hadn't arrived yet, they didn't refuse Jimmy's request, soon Mark's location showed up on the wall monitor.

Jimmy: "Locate my assigned car's radio position, he drove out with my car."

Quickly another point also appeared on the screen, surprisingly the two points didn't overlap, they were about a block apart. Jimmy stood with his arms crossed, right hand stroking the stubble on his chin, did Mark make a move?

Before Jimmy could figure it out, Ruiz already came in, he saw the two bright spots on the screen, after clarifying what they were checking, he immediately said, "Jimmy, set out for support right away."

Jimmy nodded, said to Ruiz, "Julia Lee will bring the materials over later, you guys take a look first, I'll go see what's happened with Mark. Send the address to my phone."

After saying that, Jimmy immediately exited the command center and ran to the elevator, headed to the parking lot, and drove his private car towards Brooklyn.

While driving, Jimmy called Mark's phone with his own, but no one picked up, something must have happened. His private car, a CLS, didn't have police lights or sirens, so he could only speed and cut in to go forward, soon a NYPD police car with flashing lights followed him.

Jimmy pulled over the car, two patrol officers approached from behind, one on each side, but before they got to the car window, Jimmy started shouting, "FBI, I'm on an urgent task."

The officer on the left came to the driver's side, Jimmy kept his hands on the steering wheel, didn't move, "FBI Special Agent Jimmy Yang, I'm going to take out my ID, relax."

He took out his ID and handed it to the officer, continuing, "I have an emergency support mission, help me clear the way in front, one of our agents has lost contact."

The NYPD is vast, and not many know Jimmy, luckily these two went through the dispatch center to verify Jimmy's ID was correct. They returned the ID to Jimmy, notified the dispatch center, turned back to their patrol car, and led with lights and sirens, finally allowing Jimmy to advance quickly and safely.

Jimmy dialed Ruiz's number, both sides had speakers on to confirm locations, finally arriving at the spot where Mark's phone was located. It was a small alley, Jimmy looked around, nobody in sight, he dialed Mark's phone again, finally hearing a buzzing, then saw Mark's phone near a trash bin not far away. His phone was on silent, if it weren't for the vibration, Jimmy wouldn't have found the phone here without a meticulous search.
