North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 642: Fishing Operation Underway

Bait operations are a routine practice of various agencies, though seldom used, because the safety of the bait can't be guaranteed. If anything goes wrong, the entire team could be implicated.

However, Mahong and his team's plan is feasible. As long as Falcknei can be persuaded to accept the risk, the operation can proceed. Moreover, Falcknei is not on the FBI's witness list, so as long as the report is well-written, there shouldn't be major issues. Even if something happens to Falcknei, in the absence of other witnesses and evidence, no one can complain about Mahong and his team.

The only issue here is how to get Falcknei to agree to be the bait. All the danger is on his side, while others face little risk. If the FBI is slow in rescuing him, at best, Falcknei will be tortured; at worst, he could end up dead.

Jimmy doesn't care if Falcknei will accept or not. Mahong and Neil should be able to persuade him; Jimmy just needs to design his own protection plan afterwards.

Falcknei is the intermediary, and he has already been kidnapped once, though unsuccessfully. He's jittery now, and if he needs to go out again, he'll definitely consider taking a bodyguard for protection.

Jimmy could act as Falcknei's bodyguard, but there is a problem. Technically, Falcknei is the target, and to ensure a successful kidnapping, his bodyguard will inevitably be the first target for attack. Although Jimmy will protect him, he also doesn't want to become the target for someone's gun. If he is to provide close protection, he will undoubtedly become a target.

Jimmy really isn't afraid of close-range attacks, but if the opponent doesn't follow the usual patterns and attacks from a distance, he isn't sure if he can detect it beforehand. Previously, when he was being targeted by a sniper, he did indeed have a Sixth Sense, but there's no guarantee it'll work every time.

Close protection can be ruled out; he can choose to stay within a few dozen meters of Falcknei. At this distance, he can basically ensure he detects any anomalies and can shoot with sufficient accuracy to provide support.

After thinking it through, Jimmy gave Mahong a call and then went to Mahong's office to talk with Mahong and Neil. He synchronized his plan with them, leaving the subsequent processing to Neil.

In the evening, Jimmy met Kevin again, but this time not at Kevin's home; they met at a cigar club. Kevin had arranged to meet someone here, and Jimmy arrived early to chat a bit; it wouldn't take much time.

Kevin gave Jimmy a cigar. Jimmy cut the cigar tip and lit it up. "So, did you meet with Priest White?"

Kevin: "Yeah, we've talked. But it's not great. Your wedding can be held at St. Andrew's Church, but it'll only have the basic ceremony, and witnesses can't exceed ten people."

Jimmy looked at Kevin in surprise: "Why?"

Kevin: "Priest White's request. He just gave us this small favor, but..." Kevin eyed Jimmy up and down, "What exactly is your relationship with them? It's really strange that Priest White will act as the officiant for this ceremony."

Jimmy: "Unofficial Exorcist, recognized by the Church, with an Exorcism Badge."

Kevin: "Alright, those details are not my concern. Ten people isn't too big a problem. This way, our previous preparations won't go to waste; there's no need to adjust anything. We just need to remove the wedding ceremony itself."

Jimmy: "How do we select those ten people then?"

Kevin: "We'll really need to think about this when we get back. We'll send them individual invitations. It's a bit troublesome."

Jimmy: "Alright, let's decide this in the next few days. There are a few invitations I need to hand-deliver personally, so the timeframe is pretty tight."

Kevin: "Okay, I'll think about it."

"Knock, knock," someone was at the door. Kevin and Jimmy stood up; this was the person Kevin was meeting. It was time for Jimmy to leave.

On the way back to the apartment, Jimmy was already considering how to arrange everything. There were certainly some important people on both sides of the friends and family attending the church wedding ceremony. He needed at least three to four people, James, Tom, Mrs. Walz, Dave... which meant Kevin's side needed careful consideration. As the NYPD deputy director, he surely wouldn't have too few people to invite, and would have to select the most important ones. His family alone would take up quite a few spots.

Priest White has caused Jimmy quite a headache with the strict restriction on numbers. Everyone has a few relatives, and not being able to attend the wedding ceremony might leave many feeling uncomfortable.

Jimmy had already told James and Tom about the approximate wedding time last year. He was planning to deliver the invitations soon anyway; now he just needs to replace the previous invitations, which isn't too problematic. However, he'll need to travel from New York to Florida, then to Little Rock, Arkansas, go to Washington, D.C., and finally to Virginia. This trip would take quite a bit of time, requiring at least three or four days.

As for others, sending invitations by courier and calling them is fine. The question of whether they can attend is something that needs consideration.

Referring to the people who attended his engagement last time, Jimmy didn't underreport the numbers when he told Kevin them. The key is that it's uncertain whether his side will attend. Hopefully, sending the invitations this time will clarify that.

In the evening, he chatted with Nia. Nia had already decided on her bridesmaids, though there were only two: an old classmate and a friend from the NYPD station, which made Jimmy a bit at a loss.
