Chapter 656: All Is Well (Part 2)

Jimmy: "Did the doctor say anything about the timing?"

Lars: "There's no way to determine. There are many drugs that can cause prolonged coma, and if the right treatment isn't given, it might negatively affect them."

Jimmy: "I understand. I'll keep an eye on things here, why don't you head back for now? I'll have our team's people come over."

Lars nodded: "That's a good idea, I'll come back early tomorrow; if they wake up, I need to take their statements."

Jimmy: "Don't worry, there won't be any problems with me here."

Lars left with two agents, and Jimmy took out his phone to call Nia. This was an unexpected incident, and he'd been too tense to remember to inform Nia. It looked like he wouldn't be going back today and would have to endure a night at the hospital, waiting for them to wake up.

Nia was puzzled to hear the reason, wondering what was going on. First day back at work after the wedding, and a subordinate gets kidnapped? She hadn't mentally prepared for jumping straight into a tense investigation.

Learning that Julia had been rescued, Nia advised Jimmy to try to rest well at night and didn't interfere with his decision. There wasn't much else to do; they couldn't just leave them unattended at the hospital.

Unable to say much over the phone, Jimmy hung up and called Mark, informing him to come to the hospital early the next morning to take over, and arranged everything necessary, leaving the remainder of the task to watch over the two victims outside the ward.

Jimmy took a glance through the glass window on the door, ensuring neither had woken up. He went to the nurse station for a newspaper and sat outside the ward killing time like a gatekeeper.

After a while, a doctor came over with a nurse to check on Julia and the others again, and Jimmy casually asked about the possible drugs they were administered.

The doctor could only make basic assumptions about the current situation, unable to confirm anything yet. The assumption is that it's likely benzodiazepines, such as diazepam or lorazepam, which can induce sleep and coma, and have long-lasting effects that match Julia and the others' condition.

Since it's nighttime, blood tests couldn't be processed promptly, all they could do was wait. But at least with them in the hospital, any abnormal situation would be handled by doctors and nurses for emergency treatment, ensuring no risk to life.

By dawn, the hospital was completely quiet, with only basic lighting on, unlike the bright lights of work hours. Jimmy didn't fall asleep; he simply sat on a chair resting with closed eyes. Suddenly, he heard a noise from the room behind and turned to see someone trying to sit up from the bed, lacking strength and falling back down.

He tapped the door and turned on the lights in the room, "Julia, how do you feel? Anything out of the ordinary?"

It was Julia who was trying to get up, pushing with her right arm, and she visibly relaxed upon seeing Jimmy enter, "Thank God, Yang, it's good to see you."

Jimmy stepped forward, helped her sit up and rest against a pillow, "It's okay now. Kelly is on the bed next to you; she's rescued too, rest assured. How are you? What exactly happened?"

Julia bitterly smiled and asked, "What time is it now? How long have I been missing?"

Jimmy: "Less than 24 hours, but you've been in the hospital for five hours now, and it's past 2 a.m."

Julia: "Seems like your investigation went smoothly. It truly was bad luck this time, as there were no signs beforehand.

Here's what happened: Kelly called me over the weekend. She'd quarreled with her boyfriend, was upset, and wanted to meet up and chat.

I wasn't busy, so I agreed. Before leaving, I left my badge and gun in the room, only bringing a backup gun.

We had a few drinks at the bar, and Kelly was approached by someone. Maybe she was upset, so she didn't refuse, and we drank together for a while. Around 9 p.m., we left the bar separately; she left with that person.

There were too many people at the bar entrance, so I walked a bit further away to catch a cab. Just a few steps ahead, an SUV stopped in front of me, and two people got out of the back to grab me. I resisted, but the alcohol affected me too.

After getting in the car, I was knocked out, probably using ether or such drug, and when I woke up again, I was tied up with Kelly beside me. They fed me something and then gave me an injection, and the next time I woke up was now."

Jimmy: "Do you remember their appearance and the location? Did they say anything?"

Julia: "I can help with their sketch. Regarding the location, all I know is it's a residence, but the curtains were drawn, preventing any views outside. The room had no distinct items, unless I see it again, I can't determine.

While I was awake, they barely talked, only asking us to eat and uttering a few words, revealing no clues."

Jimmy: "It's okay, don't rush; you've just woken up. I'll call the nurse, tell her if you need anything."

Julia nodded, as she originally intended to get up for a personal task. With a nurse present, she'd surely be better taken care of than by Jimmy.

Jimmy went to the nurse station, informed the nurse, then stayed outside instead of entering the room. Julia clearly had a stronger constitution than Kelly; affected by the same drug, Kelly still hadn't woken up, which was understandable.

The next day, Jimmy handed Julia and Kelly over to Agent Lars, with Mark from the Homicide Team following up with Lars. Jimmy needed to go to forensics; he had agents investigate the yacht yesterday, and this morning was to review their findings.

The gang mainly engaged in kidnappings, fulfilling clients' requests. Thus, traces, even potential bloodstains, might remain on board. If the forensics team finds even a hint, Jimmy's team could pursue further.

Just a single kidnapping case wouldn't suffice for heavy sentences. Without other evidence, the captured ones might get paroled after a few years, which would be too lenient.

Unfortunately, people like Jimmy, focused on time efficiency, were rare. Upon arrival, he learned the forensics team had been understaffed yesterday, leaving the yacht unexamined, requiring arrangement once everyone started work during the day.

This was awkward, but there wasn't much Jimmy could do; if blood-like signs were detected, they would need analysis, taking at least a few hours to form initial opinions. Thus, he might as well use this time to take a shower and nap.

While Jimmy took a rest, Agent Lars and his team made solid progress. Julia and Kelly both confirmed that Michael G. Williams, the one from the bar, had also assisted in Kelly's kidnapping, identifying him as a gang member. With witness and surveillance evidence, he couldn't escape this.

Unexpectedly, the driver caught by Jimmy's team wasn't just an ordinary driver. He drove the SUV during Julia's abduction, meaning he directly participated, and his charges and sentence would be more severe.
