"Why do you need to fly? Can't you just... pull yourself into the body?"
"To do that I would need to free my hand and... well..."
Seth pulled his head from the puppet, causing its head to fall limp once again. He gestured to his hand, which was still controlling the prosthetic arm. The fingers tapped as it crawled to the edge of the Avatar's shoulder, before leaping off.
It immediately slammed to the floor, dragging Seth's weightless spiritual body along with it. His body kept floating in the air, but it was held down by the arm, unable to pull itself free and simply dragged along for the right like a balloon strapped to a cat.
And since he was the balloon, the thought of losing his tether and floating off into a fan to be popped, or in this case floating out into space and being absorbed by the sun, wasn't a very appealing idea. Surprisingly enough.
Then again, it's not like he could lose his tether. It would be like the balloon trying to pull itself from the cat. It just simply couldn't be done. He had nothing to leverage himself on, no way to generate the force.
He could possibly have Nixie pull his arm out but then that returned him to the issue of floating into the sun, which still didn't appeal to him for some strange reason.
Once Nixie had an understanding of the situation, Seth's flying lessons began. However for Nixie, who had been able to both walk and fly since birth, she was having quite a lot of trouble even teaching it.
It was like teaching someone how to breathe or walk, without you actually knowing how you yourself did either of those things.
For Nixie it was completely instinctual, and Seth had no wings to flap like she did. But she did her best. Eventually, despite Nixie's insistence that he would have to flap his arms, Seth managed to get some control of his spiritual form.
The advance in his progress mainly stemmed from the demonstrations Nixie gave. Her lessons and the things she was saying were complete nonsense, but he simply nodded along and let her 'teach' him while he watched how she flew.
While she did indeed flap her wings to fly, that was only because of her ancestral instincts. They were wings composed of her soul, and therefore couldn't catch any wind to push her up with. What they could catch, however, was the ambient spiritual energy.
Whenever Seth had turned his vision to his 'Soul Sight' and looked into this spiritual plane, there had always been a strange fog that had curled around his feet. He had never really questioned it before.
It was just... a thing that was there. In his mind it was just the spooky soul version of grass that was just there in that realm of souls. You don't really question grass. It's just there, existing.
Well... Now grass can grab you, drag you underneath the ground and use your bones as compost, so sometimes you should question it. But you get the point. It was always just something in the background, simple set dressing.
But now he was actually in the soul realm, and his senses had been increased by the evolution, he could feel the ambient energy around him. Most of it occupied the fog, which was actually quite refreshing to breathe in as it filled him with energy. The energy that wasn't fog, and which was in the air, was what Nixie's wings pushed off of.
And it was exactly that which he was learning to control.
He floated helplessly, surrounded by the spiritual energy, like he had been dropped in the middle of the ocean. If he was in water, he could have waded with his arms. Surprisingly, Nixie's suggestion of flapping his arm did help. It pushed him slightly, although it was too much effort and most importantly looked utterly ridiculous.
So instead Seth focused on reaching out with his own power, coaxing the ambient spiritual energy to come under his influence. He directed it around him, stirring the water as if he was swimming without actually moving, and began to move through the air.
Once he got control of it, and made sure he would be able to stop himself from floating into the sun, Nixie grabbed his prosthetic arm with one hand while pressing the other against his chest. The draconic paw pushed against his chest, while the small and slender hand pulled his arm, and it one fell swoop Seth was completely free from his earthly bonds.
Seth swooped through the air, letting out whoops of victory, before he let out a cry of pain. His body started to flicker and glitch, pulling itself apart at the seams before snapping back together like a rubber band.
[Interference removed, continuing Evolutionary process. Entering final stages now.]
Seth's ghost let out silent screams as his soul was ripped apart before Nixie's eyes. New hands erupted from his chest before being dragged back inside, dozens of spiritual threads burst from his back and spread through the air. They waved silently, like kelp in the ocean, while Seth was torn apart.
His hands clamped either side of his head as a splitting headache burst through his mind, in more ways than one. His hands were on his head. But he had one set of hands... and two heads.
Angels voice echoed in his mind again, literally. Every word she spoke was doubled, layering over itself as if there was a literal echo without a second of delay.
[Evolution complete. Restoring physical form.]
Gravity suddenly took hold of Seth's spiritual form, dragging him from his aimless floating and slamming him into the floor. A floor he had previously passed through, but was now as solid as a floor should be. He slowly clambered to his feet, which were taking form at the same time.
Bones sprouted from the air like bamboo shoots, rapidly growing and clicking together with sickening snaps. First the feet, giving him something to stand on, and then the toes which quickly curled in pain.
Shins, knees, and hips. The discs of his spine clicked together like stacking plates one by one and his rips erupted from them like branches of a macabre tree.
As his skull and arms were forming, the spiritual threads that had erupted from his back and drifted behind him finally moved on their own. They curled in the arm, moving like thousands of living tendrils, as they wrapped around the newly formed bones.
Some of the spiritual tendrils plunged inside of the bones, passing through them without issue, while others wrapped around the bones like they were trying to bind them together. The threads stretched to every part of his body, from his feet to his fingers to his silently screaming skull, as they turned themselves into his nervous system.
Organs formed next, but were quickly hidden by the muscles that sprouted from the bones and quickly wove themselves around them.
By the time Seth's skin had started to grow and cover the horror show that was the insides of the body, his screams had died down. A warm sensation was spreading through his entire body, bringing a soothing comfort with it that drowned out the pain.
Perhaps Angel was being nice to him for once, as her words appeared before his freshly grown eyes the same moment the soothing feeling spread through him.
[Celestial Ascension completed. Detecting Mutation...
Mutation Detected!
Eternal Body - You have completely transcended the line between physical and spiritual. For many a soul is the true being that simply inhabits the vessel of flesh. But for you, there is no longer a difference between the vessel and the true being.
They are one in the same. So long as your soul exists, so will your body. Even when it is destroyed, you can simply create a new one. That which is spiritual can be made physical, that which is physical can be made spiritual.
Your bodies strength is no longer dictated by biological means. As a being that has fused the two, your bodies strength is determined by the strength of your soul. However, your body will also be effected by attacks that would usually only target the soul.]
Finally, his physical form was restored once more, took a few long, deep breathes. Not just to centre himself, but to test out his new lungs. Everything felt exactly the same, even down to the things he had hoped to have changed now that he had a powerful new body.
He glanced forlornly at his right arm, being greeted with the familiar sight, a rounded stump that ended above where his elbow used to be and where it had been removed by that Raven so long ago. Even now, he could still feel the phantom sensation of it still here. In fact he could swear he was wiggling his fingers right now...
It really was a shame, he had really hoped to be able to say something like -
"Holy crap it's finally back! I've had an itch on my wrist for months and I can finally scratch it!"
Seth's eyes widened slightly, his thoughts screeching to a halt as he heard his own voice speaking. It was especially strange because, he had never actually spoken. Not even through his puppet.
