Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 127: Suspect (Additional Update 10/21)_2

"Common sense usually dictates that Courtney and Rossi, being in an affair, would want to take protective measures to avoid being discovered."

Little Black chuckled, "What's there not to understand? I've seen some women who rank men.

Ranking is mainly based on two criteria, one is looks, and the other is financial status.

First tier is the flirting phase.

Second tier is when you can play poker together.

Third tier is when you can date.

Fourth tier is when you can have children.

Peter is currently in the third tier; a dentist is wealthy and it's respectable to mention that one's dating him. He's the official boyfriend who can go on dates and play poker, but he doesn't have the right to father children.

Rossi belongs to the fourth tier. He's wealthy and has connections in the entertainment industry. He's exactly the kind of partner Courtney wants and she's willing to have his children.

She might even want to deliberately get pregnant with his baby.

It's that simple."

Luke gave a thumbs up, "Good analysis."

The Deputy Chief asked, "Speaking of condoms, it seems that the forensic team didn't find any at the scene."

Luke replied, "According to Peter, they were flushed down the toilet."

"Wait until the toilet clogs, then he'll realize how big a mistake he made," the Deputy Chief remarked with a sigh, delving deeper into the analysis,

"If Rossi knew about this but didn't want Courtney to become pregnant with his child, the two could have argued, and he could have accidentally killed her in the heat of the moment.

That could be considered a motive.

We should keep an eye on this guy. I don't like him very much."

Susan nodded, "OK, the task of finding evidence that Rossi is the murderer falls on you."

Matthew knocked and entered the conference room, "Guys, I've found something."

While speaking, he placed a document on the projector, "I've investigated the communication records of the deceased and found that she was in frequent contact with a cell phone number 626 876 4971 in the days preceding her death.

From April 30th to May 3rd, just four days, they spoke eight times.

The last person she contacted before her death was him.

Most importantly, it's an anonymous card."

Susan praised, "That's a great lead. Good work."

"My lady, it's an honor to serve you."

"You're one of the few gentlemen we have on our team; keep it up."

Matthew replied with sincere earnest, "I will."

Little Black rolled his eyes and imitated Matthew's tone, "I will."

Susan continued with the assignments, "Raymond, Jenny, go investigate at Betsy Hotel to see if you can find any valuable clues.

Luke, Marcus, look into the contact linked to the anonymous card."

"Yes, captain."

...

Kawen Inn.

Based on the location provided by the anonymous card, Luke and his partner found this motel.

Luke and his partner walked up to the front desk.

A full-figured Hispanic woman asked, "One room or two?"

Little Black flashed his badge, "Hi, beauty, we need a favor from you."

"We have all the required permits; this is a legal business. Go bother someone else," she retorted.

Luke didn't believe her bluster. People come to motels because they're cheap and the management is lax; if there's something to find, he was sure they would find it.

"We're not here to cause trouble, we just need your help finding someone."

"Do you have a search warrant?"

"If needed, we can get one, and bring a few extra people to turn this lovely motel upside down. I'm sure your boss would be thrilled, might even give you an extended vacation."

The woman stared at Luke for a while, then picked up a logbook from the table and tossed it over, "All the guests' information is recorded in there."

Luke picked up the book and flipped through it, after a while he smiled, "It's him."

...

"Knock, knock..."

"Who's out there?" a man's voice came from inside the room.

"Room service," the full-figured Hispanic woman called out in her distinctive voice.

"Creak..."

The door opened and a Caucasian man stood in the doorway, Clapbo Hino—the missing assistant director from the Lover's Disappearance series.

Luke greeted with a smile, "Hi, Assistant Director Clapbo, we meet again. Courtney sends her regards."

Little Black stood by with his gun ready.

Clapbo Hino sighed, not making any attempt to resist, "Damn woman betrayed me, should've known she was unreliable."

The police hadn't made Courtney's murder public; it was only known to a small circle.

Since Clapbo Hino thought he was betrayed by Courtney, Luke decided to play along to see if he could extract any valuable clues, "Indeed, she told us a lot about you, so much it was surprising."

Clapbo frowned slightly, "What did she say?

Don't trust her words; that woman is a liar. Otherwise, she wouldn't have betrayed me."

"Whether it's trustworthy or not, she at least said that if you don't talk, we'll have to take her statement.

For example, that you were involved in killing Abu Gela."

"I didn't kill anyone."

"So you admit you knew the dead man was the double, Abu Gela, not Lucas himself, and you also took part in the case of fabricating evidence."

"No, I didn't take part."

"I still remember very clearly, when I arrived at the burial site, you were the first to suggest that the body could be that of Lucas. Based on this alone, the police have enough reason to suspect you."

Clapbo Hino sighed, "The two of them looked very similar. I truly thought it was Lucas who had died, I didn't lie to you.

You saw the scene; most of the body was buried in the ground, half the face was damaged. It's normal to make a mistake."
