Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 157 Staring at Her_3

Once gunfire broke out, more and more police officers would swarm in, armed increasingly heavily, and the suspects would swiftly fall into desperation.

There had been gang members before who tried provoking officers, and the result was the entire gang being cracked down on by the LAPD, which ended very badly for them.

...

Eight o'clock in the evening.

Dracula Bar.

Luke, Little Black, Raymond, David, and Jenny were the five who rushed to the bar.

They parked near the bar and Luke saw some young people dressed in various costumes: blood-red cloaks, red pupils, blood-red lips, long fangs, vampire masks, and so on.

Little Black opened his upper lip and touched his teeth, "These guys walk around with weapons on them; should we arrest them to check for bite marks? We might catch the killer."

Jenny said, "If you don't mind being flooded with lawsuits, feel free to try."

Pointing to his temple, Little Black suggested an idea, "We could figure out a way, like having a good talk with the bar owner, and getting him to hold an event in the bar.

We could call it the Bite Mark Beauty Contest, where every contestant bites into a mold, and the one with the prettiest bite mark wins a big prize.

What do you think of my idea?"

Luke laughed, "Not a bad idea, you can suggest it to the bar owner later."

It was good that Little Black was brainstorming, and Luke didn't want to dampen his enthusiasm.

However, while the method was theoretically feasible and would make for a good TV show plot, there were logical flaws in actuality; a suspect who knows they've committed murder and bitten the victim, how would they possibly participate in such a contest.

Moreover, as Jenny had just mentioned, there's a risk of being sued, and the more people involved, the bigger the issue—Luke certainly didn't want that kind of trouble for himself.

After that, the five of them entered the bar in two groups.

Once inside, the whole atmosphere changed.

The lighting in the bar was dim, requiring some adjustment upon entry, then a burst of intense rock music hit their ears[The streets turned dark, my pulse stopped.

As I run towards you…

Sitting there, unaware of what I'm about to do…

My fangs ache, every time I think of you....

Blood!

Blood!

Blood...]

It was a song about vampires, filled with bloody and violent lyrics. (Censorship avoidance)

Entering the interior of the bar was like stepping into a medieval castle, dark, damp, with a faint musty smell, the bar counter assembled from coffins, surrounded by numerous crucifixes.

Pointing at a man in a vampire cape, Little Black asked, "Is he drinking blood?"

A white man held a blood bag, opened his mouth to reveal his fangs, and bit into the blood bag, his expression filled with pleasure.

Luke wrinkled his nose, "No, that's not blood, it's wine."

Little Black raised an eyebrow, "Wow, this bar is pretty unique, using blood bags as wine glasses. How did the owner come up with this?"

David laughed, "Why don't you ask him and find out."

Upon inquiring with Bart, they learned that the bar owner, Robbin, usually stayed in the private rooms on the second floor.

Just as Luke and the others approached the staircase to the second floor, they were stopped by a security guard in a white shirt and black trousers. "Fellas, if you're looking for fun, head downstairs. This isn't the place for you."

Little Black stepped forward, greeting him, "Hey, finally I meet someone normal. I almost thought I really ended up in a vampire's castle."

The security guard also sensed something amiss, "What are you here for? A friendly piece of advice—leave quickly. If you keep going up, do you know what you'll run into?"

"Ha ha, I admit I've been scared. Although I don't know what I'll run into, I know what you will." Little Black flashed his police badge, "We want to see Robbin."

The guard sighed, "Wait here, I'll go report."

David stepped passed Little Black and approached, "Wait? You still don't seem to understand the situation." David's right hand parted his coat, revealing the gun on his waist, "Take me to your boss immediately!"

The black security guard held David's gaze for a moment, then looked away, ultimately relenting, and led Luke and his party to the second floor.

The bar had a high ceiling, providing an excellent view from the second floor, from where you could see the entire hall. In sight were groups of young men and women in strange costumes, hopping and dancing wildly as if possessed. If someone were to be brought here from their sleep, it is quite possible they would be scared witless.

Luke could somewhat understand why that female victim had been literally frightened to death.

It wasn't just the youngsters dressed as vampires that were terrifying, but also the surrounding environment and music—the entire atmosphere was like entering a vampire world.

For those in the dance floor dressed as vampires, this place was a complete liberation of self, and perhaps some truly believed they were vampires.

Suddenly, Luke's gaze locked onto a woman, a black woman around thirty—Pari Jones.

The same reporter who had questioned Luke as an exhibitionist at the press conference for the shooting case.

Why was she here?

Luke couldn't help feeling puzzled.

This woman was dressed in a blue dress and red lipstick, which looked fairly normal compared to the others around her, but in this bar that actually made her seem a bit out of place.

Luke could tell at a glance that she was different from the others around her, who were all oblivious to their surroundings and freely expressing themselves, while she kept looking around, like a calm observer.

This meant, she wasn't enjoying the ambiance here and wasn't here to play—it seemed she had a purpose?

Could this reporter be here to investigate something?

Following him?

Didn't look like it.

Investigating the vampire murder cases?

The police hadn't disclosed any clues publicly, so in theory, reporters shouldn't be aware of the situation yet.

Unless she had another source of information.

"Luke, what are you staring at? Aren't we going in?" Little Black came over and shouted in Luke's ear.

"Don't yell, I can hear you. I was just about to go in, but you should stay out here."

"Why?"

Worried about being spotted by the reporter Pari Jones, Luke didn't point but instead said, "The woman in blue at three o'clock, do you recognize her?"

Little Black craned his neck and took a careful look, "Nope, don't remember her."

"OK, that means she doesn't recognize you either. Keep an eye on her."
