Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 157 Staring at Her_2

"How was the body thrown into the sea?"

Dempsey pointed at the black pickup truck beside him, "It was thrown into the sea with this unregistered vehicle."

"What was the exact time?"

"Sometime after one o'clock in the morning, around two I guess."

"Who was the victim?"

"I don't know."

"Why did you kill someone? For money? Or for sex?"

"No, I just disposed of the body. I didn't kill the person."

"Then who did?"

"I don't know. I was just responsible for handling the body."

Luke leaned against the pickup truck, slightly dissatisfied, "I'm as impatient as the five strong men outside. Don't spit it out word by word, tell me everything you know."

"This situation makes me very uneasy. I've already confessed. You can take me back to the station, and I'll tell you everything."

"Without a clear explanation, you're not going anywhere," Luke said firmly.

Dempsey ran his hands through his hair, "Last night, I received a call from the owner of Dracula Bar. He said someone died outside the bar and asked me to dispose of the body.

I drove over and, with a security guard from the bar who is Black, we moved the body onto the vehicle and dumped it near the sea. Bad luck, a homeless man nearby saw us.

I gave him some money to keep quiet, but clearly, he didn't."

Luke pressed further, "What's the name of the bar owner?"

"Robbin Doug."

"What's the name of the bar security that dumped the body with you?"

"Archibald Douglas."

Luke noted in his book, "Why did you use this particular unregistered vehicle?"

"Bart and I had some personal issues. He's a stubborn guy and easily offends people. He's a piece of work, with a long criminal record. If the police found out about him, they would definitely take him in.

I can see everything from my house and give a warning in advance.

It all went as planned until... I didn't expect to be tracked by you all." Dempsey said, showing a mix of frustration and confusion, "How did you find me?"

Black chuckled, "Actually, it's quite simple. Were you by any chance using binoculars to observe Bart's movements?

Binoculars can concentrate light, but they can also reflect it. It's not a very good method."

Dempsey looked suddenly enlightened, "Was it you who spotted me?"

Black didn't answer directly but just shrugged, as if to imply it was no big deal.

Luke smiled and continued, "Tell me about how you found the body?"

Dempsey shook his head, "Nothing special. I just lifted the body onto the vehicle."

Luke warned, "Dempsey, don't lie to me. We know more than you think, and don't forget, there's more than one person involved in dumping bodies."

"I'm not lying. I just moved the body onto the vehicle and threw it into the ocean. I really didn't do anything else."

"What about the victim's other belongings?"

Dempsey licked his lips, "No other items were found around the body. The money we gave to the homeless was out of our own pocket."

"Describe the condition of the body?"

"There were bloodstains on the neck, the eyes were wide open, the complexion was pale. That's roughly it."

"Did you see any suspicious people when you were transporting the body?"

"No."

"Before you moved the body, did anyone else touch it?"

"Don't know."

"Who was the first to discover the body?"

Dempsey shook his head, "Not sure, I went there after getting a call on Robbin's cell phone. I didn't ask any questions—the more I know, the more troublesome it gets."

"What's your relationship with bar owner Robbin?"

"Employment. I'm also a security guard at the bar, helping him out with some trouble, like when someone causes a disturbance that the regular security can't handle, I step in."

"And how do you 'persuade' them?"

Dempsey waved his fist, "With this."

"I'm quite interested in Dracula Bar. Tell me about it."

"Er... It's a vampire-themed bar. Most of the customers are vampire enthusiasts. There are quite a few oddballs. This kind of incident isn't surprising to me at all."

"Has anything like this happened before?"

"This is the first time it's turned deadly."

"How do you think she died?"

"Not sure, but with the blood on her neck, my guess is... maybe someone punctured her neck vessels."

"How much blood was there at the scene of the crime?"

"Not much."

"How much is not much?"

"Just a small pool of blood coming down from the neck, not even the size of a palm."

"Was the scene cleaned up?"

"Yes."

Luke lamented, "Do you know how much trouble destroying the scene and the body can cause for the investigation?"

"Sorry, it wasn't my intention. I was just taking money to do a job. All these orders came from the bar owner, Robbin."

Luke said coldly, "Cuff him."

Marcus pulled out the handcuffs and waved them, "I'd be glad to."

"Take me to the station, just don't leave me here. Bart's gang won't let me off."

Black laughed, "I've been a cop for so many years, and this is the first time I've seen someone begging to be taken to the station."

A few minutes later, a large number of LAPD officers arrived outside the warehouse.

These officers weren't there for Dempsey, but to intimidate Bart's gang.

Bart's gang usually acts tough, but they all turned into well-behaved kids under the LAPD's show of force, hopping into their cars and driving away.

The LAPD has always believed in outnumbering their opponents, with quick reinforcement and better equipment, which is why they fear no gang.
