Mage Manual

Chapter 562: Giving Gifts

"No word suffix bubble, no collection either..."

Ash folded his arms and scrutinized the spoils after the fierce battle, asking as he hovered in mid-air, "How is everyone's soul energy situation?"

"One fourth." "One fourth." "Two fifths."

Aside from Weiser, the others had their soul energy dramatically depleted.

Soul energy was related to the frequency of actions, and air combat far exceeded the ground in terms of frequency. The previous five Dream Bubble Shadows only consumed 50% of their energy, and just one air combat took 25%.

In theory, they could still explore two more Dream Bubble Shadows, but it didn't actually work that way—battles and exploration in the Sea of Knowledge on the Time Continent could clearly estimate how much energy would be consumed, and it was rare to run out of power in the middle of a fight.

However, the Distant Realm was different. If they encountered a Dream Bubble Shadow with an especially absurd word suffix, such as 'become invincible under certain conditions,' if you couldn't solve it, you'd be stuck indefinitely.

Combat in the Distant Realm was like simultaneously taking a test and playing ping pong in the dark. Fortunately, Ash had drawn an operator who specialized in using their brain, so he wouldn't defeat all creatures of Void Realm and still be unable to decipher the word suffixes—according to the Sword Maiden, it wasn't rare for Mages to get all the clues and still fail to decode the suffixes.

Like Trozan, her professor, a Sword Saint who could on average solo six or seven bubble shadows overnight, wasn't able to recognize the word suffixes in every bubble; if he couldn't, he'd just move on to the next bubble, taking only the points he could get and skipping the questions he couldn't answer.

In the Distant Realm, 20% soul energy was the lifeline; any lower meant it was time to consider going home to sleep.

Ash opened the Void Realm Map, pondering the next step of their journey.

After arriving in the Distant Realm, the Void Realm Map was revamped into a 'Route Map.' After breaking through this Dream Bubble Shadow, Ash could see the approximate conditions of other Dream Bubble Shadows it led to, specifically categorized into 'Solo Journey,' 'Pair Journey,' 'Trio Journey,' and 'Dream Comes True.'

Indeed, the Void Realm Map wasn't differentiated by difficulty of the bubble shadows but by the number of word suffixes. 'Solo Journey' was for single word suffix, 'Pair Journey' was for double, 'Trio Journey' was for triple, whereas 'Dream Comes True' was uncertain.

Although generally triple-word suffixes were more difficult than single ones, occasional single word suffixes could be particularly troublesome, so the introductions on the Void Realm Map couldn't be fully trusted.

'Dream Comes True' was the most peculiar, sometimes showing conditions from single to triple word suffixes without any clear differentiation from the first three options. However, the Void Realm Map wouldn't just provide aimless options; given the team's current situation, they weren't suited for further high-intensity exploration, so Ash chose a 'Dream Comes True' portal to enter.

Upon entering, Ash immediately noticed something different about this bubble shadow—the town was filled with colorful pillars of light shooting up into the sky.

"What's going on?" Ash questioned. "Is it an effect caused by a word suffix?"

"No!" Sonia exclaimed. "This is a Dream Bubble Shadow specifically for material production!"

After an introduction from the Sword Maiden, Ash learned that this place was akin to a bonus level in the Distant Realm.

Dream Bubble Shadow here had no enemies. The pillars of light were materials of reality and illusion, equivalent to an upgraded version of essence materials from the Time Continent, but with an added feature: they could be taken back to reality.

All materials of reality and illusion could be transferred from the Void to reality!

The materials weren't created from nothing but were instead infused with soul energy from something within the bubble, like a tree, a door, a cat, or even a gun, until its nature changed. The original creations of fantasy were directly taken from Dream Bubble Shadows.

Mages could choose to use them personally or let their Technique Spirits consume them for evolution, but on the Sword Maiden's side, it was all for personal use. Dazzling Star had developed a complete industrial system for creation, ensuring every material was fully utilized, making it wasteful for Technique Spirits to consume them.

"Some materials of reality and illusion are unique and can't be replicated by any Creation Mage; they can only be found in the Distant Realm," Sonia said, clenching her fist. "For example, the Wood of Unmemorable, which can be crafted into a box that travels between the Void Realm and reality. With this, we could exchange Technique Spirits in the Void Realm!"

Diya blinked her eyes upon hearing this.

She had been contemplating how to bankrupt the treasury to support Ash ever since she inherited the Empress's position. Yet, when she investigated, she realized that even being a foolish ruler would be difficult.

She was aware of the Wood of Unmemorable, yet, the entire Gospel lacked this material.

Or rather, the entire Gospel didn't possess materials of reality and illusion.

Because the Gospel Book would buy these materials for exorbitant prices and also offer an opportunity for 'Weaving the Future,' almost no Mage could resist this enticement.

Moreover, materials of reality and illusion were just icing on the cake—the Realm had been peaceful for a long time, with almost no high-intensity battles in reality, and Mages didn't need equipment to enhance their real-world combat power. Thus, for over a thousand years, the Gospel hadn't stored any materials of reality and illusion.

After discovering this information, Diya realized how the physical rewards from the Gospel List were sourced—the All-knowing Weaver wasn't creating them from nothing, but selecting suitable ones from reality and illusion materials and processing them!

Therefore, even though the Yisu royalty owned many Technique Spirits, Diya could only use them on herself.

But if she could acquire the Wood of Unmemorable, she could finally give Ash a gift!

"Accessing materials of reality and illusion requires consuming a substantial amount of soul energy, about 10%," Sonia said. "Don't rush to take the materials; look around to see if there are better options. However, since the bubble shadow might break, it's best to finish selection within half an hour."
