Radiant Shadow

Test - B.2 Chapter 14/61

-Radiant-

I walked through the relatively large halls of the adventurer's guild, built that way to accommodate some of the larger races that might come here. Like I had heard before, Non-Human races were more likely to become adventurers in this country, so the adventurers guild was more conscious of them when building their buildings.

As I walked through the halls, I thought forward to what I would be tested on. Some things the adventurer's guild likes to verify before even beginning the tests are reputation, reliability, Skills and a general understanding of a person's skillset. Of course I skipped these as a result of being recommended.

Of course they won't ask for specific Skills, and will mostly just ask for how many Skills one has in different groups like mental, magical, physical, and metaphysical. This won't give them a super clear picture of the strengths and weaknesses of a person, which is why they also ask for the person to describe their general area of expertise, things like scouting, frontline fighting or support etc.

Minex probably filled in what he assumed I would be after observing me during our trek to the city, though it didn't really matter in my case, since I was basically a jack of all trades. Or at least I could do a good enough job in any role I might have to play.

After determining those various factors of a person's Build, they will test the different Stats a person has by using different machines, which is where I am currently headed to.

They could just ask for the person's Stats shown on their Status, but that wouldn't be very useful, since different things make someone just saying their direct Stat measurements pointless, things like my [Mana Cell Enhancement] which gives a 1000% increase to my Mana Cell Stats means that telling them I was Tier 14 in my Mana Cells would mean I was pretty much a civilian, that is if I was just a normal Human.

However with my [Mana Cell Enhancement], I basically have Tier 154 Mana Cells. To put it into perspective, the average Human would be in their forties to have that high of a Tier, and that's only if they were rushing and Ranking up every three Tiers. For a Human that wasn't rushing, and only Ranking up every six Tiers, they would have to be in their nineties to have a Stat at Tier 154.

Now, it's not like I'm unique in having something that increases the strength of my Stats, so my Stat's strength isn't completely unbelievable at my age. However, if contrasted with the strength of my other Stats, the strength of my Mana Cell Stats is extremely impressive, some may even call it unbelievable.

So I was in a bit of a difficult situation on how much of my power I should show. The past Radiant's had only tried holding back, so I knew generally how that option played out.

If I held back I wouldn't get much support from the Adventurer's Guild, but I would be able to keep a low profile. This was good if I planned to commit a lot of non government sanctioned activities. But, now with another identity, I could stand to gain so much more if I showed a bit more of my power.

If I didn't hold back, I would be marked as a high priority person in the Adventurer's Guild. This high priority wasn't as drastic as something a guildmaster's son might have, but the benefits it could bring were good enough to be highly desirable to me.

In the end it wasn't that hard of a decision for the current me. The only reason for holding back for my previous selves was because of Karma. This was because a 'fake' identity could only take on so much Karma at once, and after it reached its limit the excess Karma would be directly pushed onto me. However the last me had managed to secure me the opportunity to acquire a soon to be ownerless black market identity.

This meant that I wouldn't have to limit myself and my activities nearly as much as my past selves. Besides, with my injured wrists I won't be able to hold back too much magic anyways, so I might as well go all out.

With this thought I walked into the large testing area. Inside the large room was an assortment of three different 'machines' that were meant to measure the test applicants' various Stats. Lots of different people were standing around, some in groups talking to each other, and some standing alone like myself. I couldn't see Lucky anywhere in the room, but just as I was thinking that the kid was unlucky, contrary to his name, I saw Minex walk through a door near the back of the room that read 'Staff Only', and following behind him was Lucky.

Maybe he really is lucky.

Minex led Lucky through the door and had a no nonsense look on his face. He walked onto a short platform while Lucky joined everyone standing around on the floor.

Minex stood on the platform and looked around at everyone, saying, "Hello everyone, my name is Minex and I will be the overseer of today's test. Before we begin, there are a few things I'll say."

He went on to say some stuff about what it means to be an adventurer and how dangerous it is. I didn't pay much attention to his words since it wasn't anything important.

After a few minutes of this he ended, saying, "Now onto the first part of the test, Stat measurements." He pointed to a large cylindrical 'machine' behind him. "First we'll test your Senses and Physical Stats in there. Inside there will be someone who can instruct you on the specifics of taking the test.

"Next is where we'll measure your Mana Stats." He pointed to the second of the three large machines behind him. "And even if you don't have much confidence in your magical Stats, you'll still have to be tested. Though it won't take long if that's the case.

"Lastly is where we'll measure your Mental Stats and Magic Control." The last machine was larger than the previous two. "It might leave you a bit dizzy, but you'll recover quickly."

With things like Stats being so individual making it chaotic, the solution was to measure it with various devices. The general consensus on Stat testing is to measure general Stat categories rather than individual Stats, and then give a somewhat 'comprehensive' score based on all of them.

Stolen story; please report.

Mental Stats influence Magic Control, and good Magic Control will lead to increased Mental Stats, so it's logical to test them together.

Lucky raised his hand and Minex called on him.

Lucky spoke, "If we pass this test do we get our Adventurer's license?"

"Heh, no." Minex smirked, "Passing this test only qualifies you to take the real practical test." He snapped his fingers, "Speaking of the practical. After it is determined that your stats are high enough, we'll all be taking a trip into the Dungeon and fulfilling some tasks. After all, an adventurer needs to know how to take care of commissions."

Minex clapped, "Enough of that though. Lets get a move on with the Stat check."

The whole group was split into three, with each third going to a different test machine. I was in the group that started out with the Physical test machine, and we all walked into it all at once.

It turned out that the machine was much larger on the inside than the outside, with enough room to probably fit the whole group without having to be split into three.

Inside there were many metallic pads lined up on the outside edge of the large circular area, with a large machine taking up the center of the room.

Standing ready already inside the room was a person instructing everyone that came in what to do.

"Everyone stand on an empty pad and input the name on your nametag into the pop up that appears. After that, the machine will start to scan you to get your Physical Stats and give you a score. After you get your score, head over to the central machine and go through the same process to get your Meta-Physical aura scanned."

We all complied with the simple instructions and found our own pad to begin the test.

As soon as I stepped onto the metallic pad, a transparent screen appeared in front of me asking me to input my name, which I promptly did. As soon as I had input the name, I felt a slight buzzing sensation run through my entire body from head to toe. It only took a few seconds before the sensation passed and another screen appeared in front of me telling me to move on to the aura scan.

I looked around and noticed that nobody else had finished their test yet, so I didn't miss my opportunity to be the first one to head over to the large machine in the middle. There were small and large pipes and wires coming out of the top and running into the ceiling, and there were numerous markings and symbols on the outside of it, some of which I recognized as being part of the official enchanting language of Tallen.

When I stepped into the middle of the chamber, I went through the same name input screen before the opening into the cylindrical chamber sealed shut with a covering sliding down from above, plunging the place into darkness. However the darkness didn't last long as the walls and ceiling and floor all lit up with various colors and patterns and I felt what I presumed to be my Meta-Physical aura being read.

I was almost certain that I had gone through a similar process in the past, but with many of my memories sealed I wasn't able to recall what it must've felt like then.

So I closed my eyes and felt an energy run throughout the chamber and through my body. It felt a bit invasive, but I knew that this machine wasn't powerful enough to get any super detailed information from my aura. The machine would probably get a vague sense of the number of Meta-Physical organs I had and how much life energy I had.

Although MP was what fueled Meta-Physical organs (MP being short for Meta-Physical Energy), it wasn't exactly a measurable resource. It was sort of like a universal receiver of life energies, so all life energies could easily be converted into MP by Meta-Physical organs. So if I wanted to increase my score I could convert my mana into Vitality, a type of life energy, but I wasn't a physical fighter, so it would be pretty much pointless.

If the machine was more powerful it would be able to detect what each of my Meta-Physical organs types were, which would almost certainly link me to my real identity. But thankfully I had nothing to worry about.

After a short while the machine stopped, and the door opened to show a line of people waiting for their chance to enter.

I walked out of the machine without knowing what my 'score' was, and the guide told me to head on over to the next testing chamber if I was finished.

I walked out of the machine and back into the testing hall and was surprised to find that I wasn't the first one to exit the testing machines. There were two others exiting around the same time as me, with the one coming out of the farthest machine holding their head like they had a headache.

I didn't pay them much attention as I walked over to the mana testing machine and walked into it.

Inside of this machine was almost exactly the same as the first one, and the guide just pointed over to the plates that lined the walls.

I quickly stepped onto one of the plates to get my mana tested. This time I felt the buzzing sensation in my Mana Cells, and it was much more intense than the physical test, probably because my Mana Cell Stats were so much higher.

It took longer than the physical test, and afterwards I had to wait for my turn to enter the machine in the center. This time the center machine was still testing aura, but it was testing the Mana Nebula aura. My Mana Nebula aura wasn't all that unique, as opposed to my Meta-Physical aura, so I wasn't too concerned about it.

After finishing up the Mana testing, I entered the last testing machine, the Mind/Magic test.

This time I had my Magic scanned by the pads, or in other words I was scanned to see the power of any Magical effects on my body. And, since I had a lot of artifacts active, my score for this test was probably quite high.

But it wasn't time to be complacent, next was the Mind/Magic Control test within the center aura testing machine. Since I had no reason to hide my power, I had connected with the Restless Ruby Tree yesterday. This was bound to massively change my mental score.

But, in the end, there were no flashing lights or crazy displays of power like shattering test crystals or whatever like there were in different novels, but I was certain that the results were suitably dramatic even if there weren't such physical displays. I had a small headache just like Minex had said, but it was nothing serious and went away while waiting around for everyone to finish the Stat testing.

After everyone was finished, Minex announced those that had passed.

"-and that is everyone who passed."

However, in all the names he called I hadn't heard my name at all. I was feeling a bit incredulous since I hadn't held back at all during the tests, so I should've passed with flying colors.

Minex wasn't done talking yet though, "If Lucky, and Experience Silver would follow me for a few questions, they will also pass. For everyone who's name was called, please follow the other instructors to get ready to go into the Dungeon."

Minex pointed to me and Lucky before motioning for us to follow him. I didn't know what Minex was planning by doing this, but it wasn't like I had a choice but to follow his whims since I needed to get a license. Hopefully he just wanted to ask a few questions because of some kind of protocol, but I could only guess as I followed behind him through the doors that read 'Staff Only.'
