Star Hawk Rises

CHAPTER 71: THE NIECE BE PISSED!

"Uh, well, this is Blossom, she named herself that after she ran a systems check on the Orbital Station Base. Apparently she was inside the command table the entire time, and by reaching guild level 2 we unlocked her as a reward for completing the level 2 mission." Joseph stated, as if that explained anything.

I stared at him without moving or saying a word while I waited for him to explain it properly. Even the old crone next to him was giving him the side eye, as if to ask if he was sure he wanted to be the one to explain it in such a nonsense way. After a few more moments of silence, he began to glance between us as he started to look nervous.

"Uh, well you see, shortly after everyone started coming up we quickly filled out the member roster of the guild and the command table here then displayed a message, it asked us if we wished to complete a mission to level the guild up, you were away and busy with your military work and none of us wanted to disturb you, William suggested we just complete it because it looked easy."

My eyes shifted to my father, who just stared back at me but didn't make any motion to pick up the explanation or take over, so my eyes soon drifted back to Joseph as he continued the story.

"It was really easy, all we had to do was feed some resources into the command table here and the mission was complete, so when the mining barge came back we took the required resources and fed them into the command table. It informed us the mission was complete, Blossom awoke and announced herself and that she was the orbital station's assistant and could help us build up the place and monitor the surrounding Solar System."

He glanced back at my father, who still didn't move an inch. The look of nervousness on his face growing as his eyes darted back to me, I was beginning to wonder if Joseph was questioning if he had made the right decision or not. I hoped he was okay, and honestly wished he would just get on with the explanation.

"Uh, so, yea, oh, the level up unlocked more slots for more members so we quickly filled them, and people started exploring the base, we had requests for all sorts of things, so in order to get the resources for those things we decided to build a dozen mining barges and send them into the asteroid belt, once they started bringing resources back everything sped up a lot and the city was slowly built. And of course the English clan was up here too, and they were making requests so, we asked blossom the best way to solve those issues, and she said we should upgrade the dry dock to level 2 so it could produce five ships at the same time."

I nodded my head and motioned for him to continue as I walked over to the command table, and as I got closer I noticed a few dwarves were standing on it off to the side as they listened in. I assumed they were the council members from the branch Orbital Station Base. I shifted my eyes from them to the map so I could watch the derelict ship as well as the progress of the tug boat in the dry dock.

"Uh, so, we, uh, did that and gave one of the docks to the English clan so they could produce what they wanted."

The crone interrupted him by declaring, "we built a dozen mining barges of our own and sent them out to mine as well as rented a huge resource warehouse, this allows us to stockpile resources for us to ship out of this Solar System!"

"Right, they did do that" my uncle said as he glared at the old crone before continuing his story. "Of course the command table had also offered us a new level up mission when the guild roster became full, but it was a bit trickier than the last mission, a few of us debated whether we should contact you, but William said we could handle it and not to bother you."

"Stop blaming me for everything and hurry up and finish already," my father quietly said.

I noticed Joseph wince before he tried to hide it with a cough and turned back to me.

"Right, yes, well you see, we completed that one too and the guild rose to level 3 and became big enough for us to recruit all the members into the guild, then some common clans started calling in old forgotten and a few new favours all requesting rehoming up here on the station, some we agreed to right away because they also were offering to swear fealty to our clan, others we just flat out refused on various grounds and issues."

"Uh huh" I said slowly, feeling a bit confused. "Is that all of it?"

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Yea, basically, other than that, we have been approving the upgrades and levelling of buildings and places around the orbital station. Building ships and putting them to work, we have even built some and sent them out of the Solar System after selling them."

"Uh, if that is the case, then why am I broke?" I asked innocently.

"What!" my father suddenly shouted as he stood up. "What the hell does she mean she is broke, we are making millions, you better tell me what's going on!"

"Uh, well, we sent her a hundred thousand recently."

I noticed my father slowly calm down as he watched the woman that had spoken, my eyes shifted to her, before moving to the command table and started to watch the tug boat's progress bar. I had gotten my answers and the rest I really didn't care about, I just wanted to play with my new ship. But I was going to need money to get it fixed and upgraded.

"Yea, I spent that on purchasing the derelict over there" I said without looking away from the progress bar.

"What! Why would you spend so much money on a piece of shit?" Joseph suddenly screamed.

"Because that piece of shit is a frigate and if you haven't noticed, it's the only military ship in this Solar System that belongs to our side, we can't even get a damn carrier out of the dry dock and even if we did the Galactic Federation would buy it before it even turned on its engines. I know it's shit and small, but it's a start, and we have to start somewhere, right?"

"Well, yea, I guess, but a derelict ship? Couldn't you have bought a newer one?"

I glanced pass the progress bar at the dwarves that were staring at me, I almost couldn't resist snapping at them for staring. I quickly looked away and let out a sigh, then stood up, turning away from the table.

"I'm hungry, I swear my sugars must be low or something, I think I'm feeling cranky about all this." I said as I left the room to find that elusive food hall that had to be around here somewhere. However, before I even made it near the door I was pulled back in by my uncle who told me that I was the leader, so I should be a part of all this. What followed was eleven hours of pure boredom shovelled into so many numbers and reports, and by the end of it all I regretted asking them anything. On the bright side, food showed up, and I got to eat a couple of times. I was also allowed out to shower around the middle of the meeting before I was dragged back in for the other half. The meeting had ended, and we had said goodbye to the dwarves and a few people that were not directly related to me.

I was sitting on the couch, feeling drained, as I stared up at the Solar System on the command table, enjoying the view of all the celestial objects and ships moving about. We had come to an agreement that I needed to properly claim all that I could and not leave half the Solar System up for grabs, and that's what I planned to do while we were waiting on the frigate to be repaired. They had also shown me the weird spot on Mars. I had no idea what it could be, but I suggested they build a probe and send it to find out. From there we had gone on to select the probe, the probe's features and a merry list of other things before making the purchase and requesting the dry dock to build it. My father had also asked me what I was planning to do about the other clans on earth. I had asked if everyone was being brought into the system like I had asked, and according to the council it was a work in progress. Most of the world was converting, but there was pushback in Russia, America, and China. But the cat was out of the bag and the existence of the system was online now. And people were sneaking into each country and spreading the system in trade deals and all sorts of other benefiting ways. My uncle didn't have much data on that, so we moved on. My uncle did know that the Washington clan was being torn into as they tried to keep control, a few riots had occurred in the capital.

I was starting to drift off to sleep when the door banged open and the woman who had pushed past me eleven hours ago stormed into the room and started making demands of uncle Joseph.

"Dad! I demand you help me…" she trailed off as she looked at all the people in the room before continuing a bit calmer. "Uh, can I speak to you outside briefly please, dad?"

I looked from her to Joseph, who seemed to be torn between throwing her out of her ear and rushing to help her solve all her problems. He slowly looked around the room before motioning her to head out of the room.

"Well, the meeting is finished, so I could spare a bit of time to help you, sweetie."

I slowly smiled as I watched them leave, then turned to everyone in the room.

"I think I know what that's about."

My father turned to look at me for a bit before walking over and sitting down on the couch next to me.

"What is your biggest problem, tell daddy, and he will make it all go away… sweetie."

I couldn't stop myself from rolling my eyes and started laughing when I saw the dopey grin on his face.

"It's nothing big, she decided the pod I was in for the previous seven hours, the one next to the door to the guild hall, would be hers and put up some piece of paper with her name on it and expected me to be out of the pod before twelve noon and I didn't come out till after three."

My dad chuckled as he looked at the door briefly before looking back at me and slowly shaking his head as he looked around the room.

"Kenna, I think it's long past time you were let in on the last secret of our family."

I gave him the side eye as I watched him carefully, trying to figure out what his game was by bringing that up now.

"You don't have any uncles or aunts, I was an only child and as you know I am over a thousand years old, what actually happened is in the beginning when I found out how long I was going to live as a Planet Tak I decided not to have any children, but as a century rolled past, and it became difficult to understand the changes I relented and found a wife and had a child in swore not to do it again but each time a century rolled past I found myself with another child, you are my tenth child, each time I had a child I loved them unconditionally and passionately killed thousands just to protect them, but they soon grew up and become part of the fight to protect the next. What I am trying to say is Joseph is your brother and his Daughter is your niece."

He waved his hand to the nine men and women in the room with us as he said, "this is a room of your siblings."
