Star Hawk Rises

CHAPTER 72: SIBLINGS!

I slowly opened my mouth then closed it, looking like a fish caught on a hook. My face turned slowly between the eight people watching me and my father. He was smiling softly at me.

"Ha, look, it's Joseph all over again," someone said as she laughed.

I slowly turned to look at her, she honestly looked like she was in her early twenties. She also did look a lot like dad with the same chin and bone structure, but they all had that, and I had always assumed it was because they were his siblings or first cousins, maybe. I had those features too, I knew I had, I saw it in the mirror, but for some reason I had always dismissed it as being my father's daughter, so genetics had given me those same features. My mind began to spiral, and I started questioning everything about my life, every conversation I had had with any of them. I felt my mind starting to slip, like it was about to shatter. Only for it to snap back into place when I was reached from my thoughts by the door slamming open and my uncle… brother Joseph storming back into the room. I stared at him like he was a stranger as I studied everything about him from his walk to his angry look on his face. I saw him stomp over to my… Brothers and sisters?

"Some cow bullied my baby and cost her hours in the uplink pod, even making one of her friends stand around outside her pod to deliver a threat. You guys have to help me get revenge for my baby."

"What? Who did it? What do they look like?" one of the women asked suddenly as she glared at the door behind Joseph.

I turned my head looking at the door as it was flung open and Clara stormed into the room like she owned the place. I tilted my head slowly to the side. I noticed the moment she saw the frigate on the map because her head snapped to look directly at it and her storming steps slowed as she passed her father and continued until she was standing on the other side of the table from me, staring up at the ship.

"It's so beautiful." She whispered, before turning suddenly to look at her father. "Dad, can you get it for me please?"

I noticed Joseph wince before slowly shaking his head. I noticed the woman I had been analysing earlier was leaning over to Joseph and whispering something in his ear, and as soon as she lent away, his eyes snapped to look at me for a few moments before slowly returning to his daughter.

"No, it is the personal property of your aunt, and she has already made it clear she will rip whoever tries to take it from her a new one." He said to Clara.

She turned back to look at the ship and then noticed the tug boat's progress, turning her head to look at it. I watched her frown, then I swear I could see the cogs in her head turning as she glanced between them.

"It's broken, the engine most likely, otherwise a tug boat wouldn't be under construction, this will be expensive to fix, by the look of this image it also has a hole in its side, most compartments would be damaged."

She pulled a glass tablet out of her pocket and unfolded it, moments later she was poking at the screen.

"Alright, I got the blueprints for a frigate. This thing is going to empty the bank just to get it back up on its feet, let alone the extras it will need, like clone tanks and life banks, not to mention the storage tanks for the clone materials. Should take up a quarter of the cargo hold. On the bright side, this section at the back under the landing pad looks big enough to house two drop-ships or maybe one and a scout ship."

I watched her face frown as she kept moving around the blueprint, looking it over carefully.

"Ah, this eco habitat is interesting, it has aeroponics and hydroponics, both we can fix. We have the licensing and blueprints for them individually from building the station's green houses. Same for the housing habitat that is next door, it's just blueprints for housing and streets, the basic stuff that came with the Orbital Station Bases' habitat. That section will not cost us anything but some materials to fix, we can easily source that from the mining warehouse. I'll put in a work order now and have the materials for that put aside."

She turned her head slightly after a few moments her head turned back, and she started tapping away on that glass tablet again.

"Work order is in, they will move the materials so that they are not accidentally used. Alright moving up two floors, the top floor is easy, simple probably not much damage, if you consider where the hole is, so I'm willing to write it off as minimal repairs and not really worry about it."

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

I was about to ask if Clara was in charge of the dry docks or something when my father leaned closer to me and whispered into my ear.

"She is the dry dock foreman, she studies any ship she can get her hands on like they are her lovers, she spends most of her time going over all the… ship scraps? Whatever it is that needs repairing and turning back into workable ships so we can sell them. When she isn't doing that, she is in the uplink pods, working as an engineer for the navy. Gets a little territorial of her stuff too"

I nodded my head slowly and focused back on what Clara was saying.

"— eapons room, is going to need a complete overhaul and recalibration, I have no doubt. The electrical fires that no doubt took place in there will have shorted almost everything, and well it's going to need a lot of work. Hopefully it will be covered in the frigate's blueprints, and I won't need to find another blueprint to get into the how's and what's of fixing all that. Pretty much the same for the engineering room, to be honest, It's going to need a new engine, hopefully that comes with the blueprint, finding an engine blueprint will be a bitch and a half, after that it will be a look and see what needs fixing."

She suddenly frowned again as she looked between the blueprint and the ship and tapped her screen, then glared at the blueprint before looking up at the ship.

"Huh, that's weird. The blueprint shows that the section between the engineering bay and weapons is smaller than the actual ships."

"After market add on, someone thought it would be a great idea to tie into the ship an industrial fabricator." I said as I watched Clara's face carefully.

"Ah, that makes sense, thank you, we will need to get a blueprint for that in order to make sure it is… working." she trailed off for a bit before finishing as her eyes turned to look at me and I just smiled back at her.

"Told ya, you could find me in the command room."

I watched her mouth open and close as she did a perfect reenactment of the surprised face I had on earlier. I let her spiral for a bit as I glanced up at the tug boat's progress bar, seeing it was at 99% I smiled and waved my hand at it.

"Do we have a pilot assigned to take the tug boat out and bring in the frigate yet?"

"Uh, yea, Timothy has volunteered to fly the newest ship and run it through its paces, he seems to enjoy being the first to fly any new ship." the woman I had stared at earlier said. A moment later, I remembered her name was Francesca.

"Cool, shall we send him out now then?" I asked as I saw the progress bar click over to 100%.

"If the ship is finished, then he is most likely already running to fly it out of the dry dock." Joseph said as he chuckled softly.

The sound of Josephs voice seemed to snap Clara out of her spiral as she turned to look at him, then started screaming as she waved her finger in my direction.

"What the hell is going on! Dad, that's the bitch that stole my uplink pod, you promised you would punish her for me! Punish her now, take away her pod privileges and make her clean the waste management department, I want her punished now!"

I heard my father chuckle or maybe snicker a little, but it was quickly drowned out by the rest of my… siblings, who had started laughing loudly. Only Joseph stood there looking between Clara and me, his face slowly losing colour as he tried to quickly figure out what to do. It was Francesca who walked over to stand in front of Clara and tell her.

"Oh, little girl, your daddy can't help you with this one, you see, he has no authority to tell his sisters, let alone that particular sister of his, anything."

"What do you mean?" Clara almost shrieked as she spun to stare at me, who was waving my fingers at her.

"Dad!" she whined as she turned back to him. "Punish her, she took up valuable time in the uplink pod, that I needed to study under the great master who is furthering my education, he was really pissed that I was late and even threatened to stop teaching me if it happened again."

"I don't suppose he outranks a flight captain, does he?" I asked innocently.

"No, of course not, he is a lieutenant, hell he would probably sell his own mother, to get a posting on a flight captain's ship. They are captains of like frigates and… and…" her eyes slowly shifted from me to the frigate floating on the map before snapping back to me as her mouth fell open and the colour in her face slowly drained away.

I was about to open my mouth to make a cheeky remark, but I was interrupted by a voice coming over the command table's radio, channel.

"This is Timothy, exiting the dry docks now, do I have permission to proceed towards the frigate for collection and towing into the dry docks, Sir may I also recommend upgrading the dry docks to level 3, if I remember correctly, Blossom said that level three comes with a repair and maintenance bay for ships like this one."

"Proceed" I stated simply. When Timothy's voice came back, it was more respectful, like he had suddenly sat up in his seat and decided he needed to be as professional as possible.

"Aye, Guild Mistress Kenna, proceeding to the Derelict Frigate!"

I saw Clara stumble back from me as she heard Timothy's name for me, her face was almost white now. I stared at her as she stared back at me, the rest were watching the tug boats progress across space to the frigate.

"Clara" I said slowly.

"Yes?" she squeaked as she glanced around the room.

"Relax a little, it's not like you shoved me out of the way and yelled at the Guild Mistress for using her own property, right?"

The next second, I felt my dad shove me as he growled. "She is family, don't fuck with her like that"

I felt the blush rise up in my cheeks as embarrassment ran through me, but I nodded to him and turned back to Clara.

"I am sorry for what I said, I will not punish you for what you did, let us forgive and forget, we are family after all."

I watched her head bob up and down rapidly as she slowly backed away from me, but my attention had returned to the tug boat that had just reached the frigate.

"Tug Boat Pilot Timothy to Blossoming Terranova Command, I have the frigate, towing it back to the dry docks now."

"Good job Timothy, I have initiated the level up for the dry docks, and it should be completed by the time you get the frigate back here, it will have its own personal dock." Joseph responded.

"Clara, are you going to fix my baby up for me?" I asked her softly, not wanting to spook her.
