Seven Beautiful Goddesses Want Me, But I Just Want My Revenge

Chapter 316: Game of Thrones?...

"It does not matter why," the leader replied. "By our code, you are now the Malevolent Lord. The Shadow Court is yours to command."

Adrian stared at the weapon in the kneeling soldier's hands, its dark blade glinting faintly in the dim light of the chamber. Marcus's weapon—now his, if the laws of the Shadow Court were to be believed.

The whispers of respect from the other members of the Shadow Court filled his ears, but his thoughts were a swirl of tiredness, uncertainty, and defiance.

"I don't want it," he said sharply, taking a step back. "Find someone else to take the position. I have no place here."

The leader of the group looked up with an unreadable expression. "That is not how it works, Malevolent Lord. The title and power can only pass to one who defeats the previous Lord. If you do not accept it, someone must challenge you for it. To the death."

Adrian's eyes narrowed, his fiery chains flickering faintly at his sides. "I don't have time for that. I didn't come here for this… game of thrones nonsense."

The goddesses moved closer, looking both curious and worried. Hera placed a hand on Adrian's arm, speaking calmly but insistently. "Adrian, think about this. They're offering you immense power."

"I don't want it," Adrian repeated, his voice hardening. "I didn't come here for power. I came here to put an end to Marcus and the Shadow Court's tyranny."

Lilith's crimson eyes gleamed with mischief as she smirked. "Adrian, you're always so noble. But remember, we did promise you unimaginable power, right? So why reject this?"

Abyss stepped forward. "The power might not just be for you, Adrian. You could use it for Zarpha, for Meridia… for everything you've fought so hard to protect."

"They're right," Medea added, her crimson flames flickering faintly. "You've already taken this far. What's one more step?"

Adrian's jaw tightened, his gaze flicking between the blade, the kneeling soldiers, and the goddesses. "And if I say no?"

The leader of the group bowed his head slightly. "Then the portal back to your world will remain closed. Only the Malevolent Lord has the authority to activate it. You hold our fate—and yours—in your hands."

Adrian closed his eyes, exhaling a slow, measured breath. The decision felt heavy on him, like a mountain. He felt Alannah's presence at his side, her hand lightly touching his arm.

"You have to do this," she said softly and steadily, despite the pain she'd endured. "We can't stay here."

Finally, Adrian stepped forward, his fiery chains retracting as he reached for the blade. His fingers closed around the hilt, and a surge of dark energy coursed through him.

For a moment, he staggered, his body trembling as the weapon's immense power fused with his own.

The chamber became quiet as the soldiers lowered their heads, showing their respect clearly. "Hail, Malevolent Lord," they chanted in unison.

Adrian looked at the blade, its surface shimmering with shadowy tendrils that seemed to move of their own accord. He took a deep breath, steeling himself. "Fine," he said, his voice cold and commanding. "I'll accept the title. But only to get us out of here."

The leader nodded. "The portal awaits your command."

With the blade in hand, Adrian approached the glowing circle of runes etched into the chamber floor. He raised the weapon, and its dark energy resonated with the portal, causing it to flare to life.

The swirling vortex grew brighter, its power stabilizing under Adrian's control.

"Let's go," he said firmly as he gestured for the others to follow.

The goddesses and Alannah stepped into the portal first, their forms vanishing into the swirling light. Adrian cast one last glance at the soldiers kneeling before him.

"We hope to see you soon."

"I won't be back," Adrian's voice had a tone of finality to it.

The leader raised his head, a faint smile on his lips. "Don't be so sure. We'll be waiting, should you change your mind, my Lord."

Adrian stepped through the portal, the light swallowing him whole.

*************

The group emerged into the familiar camp of the Shadow Court army, the oppressive energy that had once filled the area now faint and subdued. The remaining soldiers knelt as Adrian and the others passed, their loyalty seemingly transferred to their new Lord.

Adrian ignored them, his focus solely on the horizon. "Let's head back to Zarpha," he said. "We're done here."

**********'

The journey to Zarpha was somber, the group weighed down by the events they had endured. When they finally reached the city, they were met with a sight that made their hearts sink.

The city lay in ruins. Buildings were toppled, smoke still rising from charred remains. But amidst the devastation, the citizens of Zarpha moved with determination, clearing rubble and helping the injured.

Lord Faolan, flanked by a group of weary soldiers, approached them. Relief flooded his face as he saw Adrian and the others. "You're alive, Your Majesty," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "We feared the worst."

Adrian nodded grimly. "We stopped the Shadow Court. But the cost..." He glanced at the ruins around them. "How bad is it?"

"Bad," Faolan admitted. "But we'll rebuild. We always do."

Adrian placed a hand on the man's shoulder. "Good. Focus on that. The people will need strong leadership in the days ahead."

As the group made their way deeper into the city, Alannah walked beside Adrian, her steps slow but steady. "What now?" she asked, her voice quiet.

Adrian glanced at her, his fiery chains flickering faintly at his sides. "Now, we focus on rebuilding. Zarpha will rise again. Stronger than before."

Alannah stopped, turning to face him. "Thank you," she said softly. "For everything. For saving me."

Adrian hesitated, his gaze meeting hers. "You don't have to thank me."

"I do," Alannah insisted, her voice firm. "I need to know… why did you save me? Why did you risk everything?"

Adrian looked away, his fiery chains dimming. "Maybe I care about you more than I admit," he said quietly, his voice carrying an edge of vulnerability.

Alannah's eyes softened, a faint smile touching her lips. "Maybe I care about you more than I admit, too."

For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Adrian allowed himself a small, genuine smile. "We'll get through this, Alannah. Together."

The city buzzed around them, the sounds of rebuilding and hope filling the air. For Adrian, the battle was over, though there's still so much to be done. But for now, there was peace.
