Lei Jun found the person familiar. A thought flashed through his mind, and he remembered having seen a portrait of this individual.
Yongxiang Monk.
One of the outstanding young disciples from the Xuantian Temple lineage, at the Middle Three Heavens cultivation level.
He was a fellow sect brother of Dexiang Monk, who had died at Lei Jun's hand in Qiluo Valley.
Ever since the battle at Qiluo Valley, Lei Jun had paid special attention to information related to Xuantian Temple, which was why he had come across Yongxiang Monk's portrait.
According to currently available information, this Yongxiang Monk was not a disciple from a noble family, such as the Jinzhou Ye Clan or the Zezhou Gao Family, whose members sometimes entered Xuantian Temple. He was of ordinary birth, taken in as a disciple by the current Abbot of Xuantian Temple in his youth and trained in Buddhist practice.
For many years, he diligently upheld the precepts and was said to regularly engage in meritorious deeds such as liberating sentient beings and benefiting the public.
Though his cultivation had not yet reached the Upper Three Heavens, he was recognized as one of the representative figures among Xuantian Temple disciples.
However, the three monks facing Yongxiang Monk showed him no courtesy.
Even though they were at a disadvantage, their spirit was not diminished. One of them even adopted the fierce expression typical of a Vajra guardian deity, declaring, "It is you who are trapped in the Bitter Sea and need to turn back, not us!"
Next to Yongxiang Monk, another monk said angrily, "Senior Brother Yongxiang, these evil cultists and heretics are obstinately blind to reason! We have no choice but to resort to our thunderous demon-subduing methods!"
Compared to Yongxiang Monk and the other two monks, their three companions in lay attire moved even more decisively.
"Demon Monks and traitors, meet your demise swiftly!" A towering figure flashed forward, instantly appearing before the three White Lotus Sect disciples.
So fast! Lei Jun thought, nodding inwardly in approval.
The explosive power and speed of a martial arts master were indeed astonishing.
The three individuals in lay attire were all Martial Artists.
Their movements were lightning-fast, their momentum like a raging thunderstorm.
Apart from the Body-Refining Martial Artist who fought barehanded, the other two were Martial Warriors wielding weapons—one a spear and the other a sword. Theirs was the path of Weapon Strike, another branch for Body-Refining Martial Artists.
Their combat style was different from the frosty Sword Qi of the Confucian Scholars and also distinct from Daoist Artificing.
The weapons seemed like an extension of their bodies, concentrating their murderous intent and even their bloody, vicious aura upon them.
They gave off an impression of invincible sharpness, their cutting edge laid bare.
The swordsman made his move, his body flowing with the sword, his attack range confined to three to five feet around him.
Still as a deep abyss, yet in motion, swift as the wind.
Suddenly, he took a step forward, and his sword tip was already aimed at a vital spot of a White Lotus Sect disciple.
The point of his sword, sharp enough to split gold and stone, was terrifyingly keen.
The spear-wielding Martial Warrior, though employing different techniques, was equally fierce. His spear thrusts were like a dragon, the chilling gleam at its tip deadly and grim. A single strike could pierce a person clean through.
In terms of focused destructive power, among the many Cultivation Dao System paths Lei Jun had witnessed, few could match it.
They resemble assassins constantly seeking an opportunity for a lethal blow rather than warriors assaulting head-on, Lei Jun thought, observing their advances and retreats.
Whether it was the Body-Refining Martial Artist or the two Martial Warriors, all vividly demonstrated their speed and explosive power.
A Warrior, when up close, could rival nations.
Their advances and retreats have a certain discipline. Even without uniforms, they look like experts from the Tang Army, Lei Jun noted while watching the trio fight.
A spear, a sword, and a fist struck in unison—not at the three White Lotus Sect disciples separately, but all aimed at a single target.
That White Lotus Sect disciple, constantly vigilant, dodged at the first possible moment but still found the enemy upon him.
"May the great light shine forth, protecting..." Before he could finish chanting his invocation, the Martial Artists' attack was upon him.
Fortunately, the Glazed Serene Buddha Light flared up just in time, weaving itself into a Lotus Flower that protectively enveloped him.
It was another White Lotus Sect disciple, lean in stature, who had intervened.
Watching from the sidelines, Lei Jun's gaze briefly gleamed.
He hadn't witnessed such Buddhist Law of the Xuantian Temple's Precept Holder lineage from Dexiang Monk before, but today he saw it employed by a disciple of the White Lotus Sect.
The Xuantian Temple's Precept Holder lineage possessed formidable Defensive Power.
During the arduous cultivation of the Lower Three Heavens, one could mostly only protect oneself and endure hardship.
Upon reaching the Middle Three Heavens, they then possessed the School of Dharma that enabled them to protect others.
However, Dexiang Monk had not yet mastered this aspect of his Cultivation at the time.
But now, this White Lotus Sect disciple successfully utilized it, shielding his comrade from the enemy's extremely swift first wave of assaults.
Yet, as strong as the Glazed Lotus Flower was, it could not withstand the onslaught of three formidable Martial Artists for long. The pure and clear Glazed Buddha Light managed only a momentary resistance before it was swiftly breached.
Fortunately, with his companion's aid, the first White Lotus Sect disciple who was attacked had just enough time to complete his grand vow:
"May the great light shine forth, protecting those who worship Buddha with a sincere heart!"
Instantly, dazzling white light coalesced into a massive Precious Vase several zhang high, separating him from his enemies.
Upon seeing this, Lei Jun recognized it. Vow Making... one of the Buddhist Family's four major paths of Cultivation. He nodded slightly.
The Buddhist Sacred Land associated with this Cultivation path was Tianlong Temple in the South.
The Bodhi Temple of the Zen Martial Arts lineage.
The Tianlong Temple of the Vow Making lineage.
The Vajra Temple of the Hand Seal Lineage.
Together with the Xuantian Temple of the Precept Holder lineage, these constituted the Four Sacred Grounds of the Buddhist Sect in Great Tang.
The White Lotus Sect was rather unique.
One great advantage for Lei Jun being in the Celestial Master Mansion was that he could browse the vast collection of books and comprehend much information without leaving Dragon Tiger Mountain.
To some extent, the origins of the White Lotus Sect bore similarities to the Yellow Sky Sect.
The Yellow Sky Sect originated from an internal schism within the Celestial Master Mansion years ago.
The earliest origins of the White Lotus Sect also stemmed from a historical schism within the Buddhist Sect of Great Tang. This led to subsequent prophecies, such as the Saha World fading away and the future White Lotus descending.
