I looked up at the double doors in front of me.
"Do you want me to open it, Daddy?" Renata asked.
I shook my head, "Hmm… Hold on, let me try something first."
"Oh! You want to try the telekinetic sensing I talked about earlier?" Amber asked, leaning over to me while levitating beside me. "Do you want me to teach you that skill now?"
"Let me see if I can do it on my own before you do," I told her.
Ok… I've seen the movies and read the stories about stuff like this so let's see if I can do it.
Since she called it telekinetic sensing… It must have something to do with reaching out my senses Psionically and then feeling the mechanisms that are hidden from the naked eye to be able to manipulate them, right?
So… Maybe if I amplify my senses somehow… I could sense the mechanisms behind the door?
Then comes the next question… How do I amplify my senses?
Everything that I've done so far was basically through imagining them to happen and things just happen… Like if I want to move something, I just imagine them moving, you know?
So if I… Wait a minute… Now that I think about it…
I suddenly had an epiphany…
Precisely because I've imagined it happening… Is this why I've been using too much force?
Like if I want to lift a smuggler up, I would imagine myself pulling them up by their limbs or something… But because I only imagined pulling their limbs, I don't actually take the rest of their body into account so I 'only' pull up their limbs which tears them off their body?
For objects, I would have the tendency to imagine the entire object floating up, but for people, I only look at them as individual body parts I want to affect…
So all this while when I was supposedly improving my control… I was just trying to lift up that specific body part as softly as possible to prevent me from tearing it off?
Wait… What about me imagining someone stopping? Why would they also end up being crushed?
Ok, I'm not too sure about that, but I guess I could try to lift someone up by imagining me lifting their entire body next time to see if that changes anything.
Back to the matter of the door though… Do I just imagine my senses improving?
If I were to imagine myself being able to see through the door… Maybe… Let's try that.
I focused my vision on the door, imagining the surface of the door to turn transparent so that I could see through it.
Woah!! Holy crap!! That worked! I can actually see through the door and the the locking mechanisms under it is revealed as cle--
"What the…"
I blinked and the door returned to normal before I turned to Amber who had made the noise.
"What happened?" I asked.
Amber pointed at the door while looking at me, "Did you do that, Tera?"
"Do what?"
"Turn the door transparent…"
"Wait, you saw that? It wasn't just me imagining it?"
Amber pursed her lips at me, "You… Turned the surface of the door transparent… Huh…"
She seemed to think about it for a moment before giggling and hugging my arm, "As expected of Tera! You're so cool!"
Ok, I was seriously just thinking that I was the only one who could see that. So you're telling me that I basically manifested it into reality where I turned the door transparent…
Hmm? Does this mean that I can literally manipulate reality? It can't be right?
…
…
I want an entire bag of saffron to appear in front of me right now.
…
Well, it was worth a shot.
Alright, let me try this another way… Could I imagine the door being transparent but only for me?
I tried just that and the surface of the door started to turn transparent once again.
"Did it turn transparent for you again?" I asked, still concentrating on making the door transparent.
"Oh, you're doing it again? It's normal this time~" Amber assured me.
Ah so this works. Seems like I have to be specific in what I imagine to get the results that I want… Which I guess ties in to the fact that I have not been imagining lifting people up by their entire bodies when I want to lift them.
Ok, now that I can see under the door, I just need to unlock it! Which means I should… Err… Umm…
There's a whole bunch of levers, rods and gears behind the door…
Right… I have no idea how to unlock this.
Could I just… Imagine that this door unlocks itself and will it to open and just--
There was a rumble and the parts of the door started to move even though I wasn't moving them specifically.
I stopped thinking about it and the parts stopped moving as well.
Huh…
I tried to concentrate on just the idea that the door would unlock and open up and the parts started to move again.
Then, with a loud metallic groan, both doors started to move apart, opening the way for us to enter.
Amber hugged me even tighter, "Ahhhh! You did it, Tera! You're so cool!!"
"I don't know if I'm doing it right though… All I did was just try to open the door and it just started to open…"
"Mmm~ As expected of Tera!!" She giggled, not even commenting on what I just revealed.
Right… I guess I'll just roll with it and file this new information away at the back of my mind on how to open locked doors.
We floated through the doors to see what was locked behind them and…
"Fire! Fire!!"
The sounds of gunshots rang out and a rain of bullets flew directly towards us.
Amber flew in front of me and the ball of fire that had been floating around her suddenly expanded in size before it shot out like a flamethrower that bathed the entire area in front of us in a sea of flames.
The ballistic bullets that had been fired at us were disintegrated by the fire but the lasers managed to pass through and struck against our shields.
I was worried that Amber's shields could not last against the lasers so I moved above the flames to look for the smugglers that were shooting the laser guns.
While most of the smugglers had been burned by the flames, they had really hunkered down in this room and there were still a number of them using the cover to hide from the flames.
That wasn't the issue though because… I see a tank behind the defensive line of smugglers with the tank barrel pointed at Amber's direction.
Ok, this one I don't need to hold back.
I immediately exerted my mental will over the tank and imagined it being squeezed on all sides at full force.
The tank literally crumpled like paper into a ball before it exploded, sending shrapnel and debris flying towards the smugglers that were unfortunate enough to be near it.
Not one to waste that, I concentrated on the debris that were flying in the air and redirected them towards the defensive positions that the smugglers had set up, smashing them into pieces and letting Amber's flames consume the smugglers that had been hiding behind them.
Some of the other smugglers turned to fire at me but my shield protected me from the lasers while Renata ate up the kinetic rounds shot at me.
I then tried to imagine an invisible wall in front of me before I sent it down to smash into the remaining smugglers, flattening them against the ground and turning them into blood splatters.
Amber's flamethrower then dispersed, allowing us to survey the carnage.
The front half of the room had been burned black and it seems like this room was used to store other stuff that they were also smuggling.
What made this place different from the previous storeroom was probably that the more valuable stuff are stored here instead I guess?
Oh… I think the tank was just something they were trying to smuggle and there wasn't anyone piloting it.
Whoops.
Though now I'm wondering how they managed to get a tank in here to begin with…
But then one thing in the back of the room caught my eye.
It looked like an obsidian obelisk that was at least three times as tall as I was and, for some reason, it looked like space was bending around it.
"What the heck is that?" I asked.
Amber floated up to my side and narrowed her eyes at the obelisk as well.
"Is that… A giant Psionic Crystal?"
I turned to her in surprise, "What the heck? They can get that big?"
Renata cut in, "That's umm… Not exactly a Psionic Crystal, Daddy… But… Can I eat that?"
Wait… Isn't this the same as the black stone pillar we found on that planet with the cows?
In that case, go right ahead~
