"Wow, more void stones, huh?" Kent smiled, looking into the 4th temple master's pouch.
He pulled out five void stones, each filled with so much void energy. It was clear he was happier looking into this pouch than he was after killing the third temple master.
While this guy nearly forced him into an extended battle, he also allowed him to see the nature, strength, and limitations of his [Underworld Soul River].
Kent was already aware that the Underworld Soul River was a dangerous technique. He knew it would grow stronger the more he used it.
Whenever a person dies within, their resentment is absorbed, strengthening it. So, in reality, the more he uses it, the more devastating it becomes, and the more it consumes also.
Of course, with Kent having more soul essence than he could use, he wouldn't have to worry about running out of energy. The limitation comes in when the pressure starts mounting on his soul.
Initially, he had no idea there would be such a requirement to use the Underworld Soul River. He only expected there to be the need to have enough soul essence; however, it turned out that soul strength was also required, and as such, he was lacking in that regard.
With his Tier 19 soul strength, he could only last for ten seconds. While that is enough time to kill a lot of people or injure them greatly, Kent was at the moment torn between two things.
First, his soul strength was still limited, and as such, he could only harness the devastating power of the Underworld Soul River for ten seconds. However, if he were to strengthen his soul, he could at least last a little longer, or at least that should be how it works.
Unfortunately, the second headache comes in. While it isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is, in a way, more limiting.
The Underworld Soul River is a technique that grows with the owner's soul. This means that as Kent's soul strength increases, so does the Underworld Soul River.
Meaning the power of the Underworld Soul River he had seen isn't even half of its true power. He was limited only to what he had seen because he had a weak soul.
This also means instead of getting to keep the Underworld Soul River active for a few more seconds, he now runs the risk of even lasting less than the ten seconds, the stronger the Underworld Soul River gets.
So he has a powerful technique, but he is severely limited in how long he can use it.
"Still, having 5 more void stones isn't too bad," Kent said with a smile, Gaap materialising into his humanoid form to have a closer look at the void stones.
"The Underworld Soul River is very powerful. I am sure not even True Immortals can survive a few seconds inside it," Gaap said, turning away from the void stones and gazing at the dead body of the bony figure.
"He was a Core Immortal with probably three Immortal Qi, yet he died from gazing into the dark expanse of the river. If I didn't know better, I would say even gods would be afraid of the current version of the Underworld Soul River."
Kent chuckled and stored the five void stones away... "That is to be expected. After all, the plan is to possess something as powerful as the Underworld Soul River for what is coming ahead of us.
So if I have this technique now, then with it, the Blood Fist, Divine Flame Armament, Finger of Destruction, and Void Cleave, I am sure we will be able to traverse the Star Gateway safely."
"True," Gaap nodded. "However, you have to be able to use it for more than ten seconds. Also, after using it once, how long until you can use it again?"
Kent furrowed his brow, completely forgetting to check that. He tapped into the Underworld Soul River and tried to activate it; however, he found out it was impossible.
The runes that activated it were dim and now recovering, so he was limited to at least "45 minutes cooldown at most."
"That is a long time to have such a skill dormant. However, since that is the cooldown time, you must at least be able to keep it active for 20 seconds."
"How do I go about that?" Kent asked, and Gaap could only stare at him...
"So you have no way for me, huh. Maybe I should brute-force my way into making my soul more resilient. Perhaps that would give me a better hold on the active time and keep it going for more than 10 seconds."
"I don't think that is wise. Especially not when a major mission lies ahead of us that cannot be taken lightly. Forcing your soul can injure it, and while healing it might be simple for you, know that an injured soul is a fragile soul.
So, if possible, find a way to transfer some of the pressure to a third party. This way, even if the pressure is mounting, you can keep the Underworld Soul River active."
This time, Kent nodded and let his mind wander for a few minutes. He is severely limited in the aspects of soul knowledge. However, there was no telling just what he could achieve when he unlocked the potential of his Underworld Soul River.
"Hmm, now, I know this is a long shot, but the soul universe is basically something I can design as I see fit, right?"
Gaap was lost at what Kent was trying to say. However, he nodded just so he could continue with what he had to say...
"If the soul universe allows me to create any weapon I want, then how about I create a weapon I can channel the pressure into?"
Gaap raised his brow, an understanding slowly creeping into his mind.
"That could work. However, what kind of weapon would be able to handle that kind of pressure?"
Kent smiled and answered, "The kind that requires pressure to work. In other words, I need to create the kind of weapon that would require soul pressure as the energy source."
"So it would be a multipurpose type of weapon. It first takes in the soul essence and then releases it."
"Yes. I already have a weapon in mind."
"Can I have a general idea of it?" Gaap became more intrigued and seemed eager to learn more. After all, he wanted to understand Kent better so he could serve him well.
"Sure. Now, imagine a large orb with a terrifying, long and thin cannon attached to it. The orb would take in the pressure, which then can be compressed and transformed into a beam of soul attack, the kind that would travel with the same pressure it had compressed."
Gaap said nothing, perhaps trying to make sense of what had just been said. In the end, he sighed and shook his head, "I would perhaps understand it when I see it."
"Don't worry, you would be impressed when the Death Star Cannon is ready."
Kent relaxed his nerves and sat down. Then he entered the soul universe to see what he could do. Since there was no danger on the 4th floor now, Gaap didn't even have to stand guard.
