Azov sighed as Remi began to redecorate the mountain in preparation for her tribulation.
He should have sent Karl and his friends somewhere else, he was getting tired of fixing this place every week. Unfortunately, the Immortal Tribulations were not something that could be delayed. They were time-sensitive, and now that his team had chosen this spot to do all their advancements, things were what they were.
He would bill Karl later.
Now that he was Immortal, and had a number of Immortal Rank crafters with him, the Immortals of his home world could request all sorts of benefits from him.
It had been a long time since the last batch of Immortals to ascend had left for the Immortal Worlds, and they hadn't been craftsmen.
But more importantly, they stopped caring about the mortal world.
Azov and the others could leave, in theory. But they had very little that the Immortals wanted, and they had no protection while they were there. That was the important part about sending Karl and Dana to the New Home Merchant Clan.
They might not be the strongest force, but they were willing to at least tolerate newbies from other worlds.
Remi had turned the mountaintop into a Naga Swamp, and Cara had brought out a picnic for the Immortal Children accompanying her.
Azov considered chiding her about that, as they were supposed to be keeping the paths between worlds closed, and letting them visit would give those children access to this world later, when they might have bad intentions for the mortals.
To get to a Mortal World with a barrier, one generally needed to know where it was. Either through scrying, astronomy, or having visited before.
Now that they'd been here, they could come back once they learned to portal between planes. Most never would, but even the slightest risk of it could cause tens or hundreds of thousands of years of danger.
Still, he remained silent as Cara set up snacks, and the other Immortal Guardians came to join the badger and her young charges.
That was when he realized that the Badger had a genius plan. The only one here who was mortal was Remi, who was still in the body of a juvenile Naga Queen. Everyone else was an Immortal, and with the lingering tribulation energy here from repeated advancements, the kids would have a hard time recognizing this world.
They might even think it was somewhere on their world, reserved for advancements.
While Remi advanced, Rae was taking Dana on a shopping trip. A very boring, normal shopping trip.
"See, people are so nice. It's like we ran out of bullies and idiots already." Rae sighed.
The cashier at the furniture store they were browsing lifted her arm to let the wide sleeve cover her laughter, while pretending to read a notepad.
Dana smiled. "I think it's just that everyone is afraid to start a fight with you so soon after the last one. Give them a little while to forget, or wait until we all head out of town together.
At that point, someone is bound to take their chance."
Rae turned to the cashier. "Is that true?"
The cashier nodded. "They certainly won't try any time soon within the Clan compound. Paying for a soul only resurrection is too steep of a price. Plus, they pretty much all understand now that they did not come from a combat culture on the level of The Karl or the Dana Mage."
Rae gave her a strange look, and the cashier wondered what part of her explanation was unclear.
"Why do you refer to them that way? Karl and Dana are their names."
"Oh, our systems aren't fully compatible. So, I don't see their name, I just see their title. He is 'The Karl' and she is 'The Dana Mage'. The system calls you 'Lady Rae'. I suppose you'll get used to it, or you'll change your titles."
Rae paused as she searched Karl's System Interface for ways to change her Title.
Yes, there they were, with his. He had a bunch of them, but he didn't have one set, so it must be default. Neither did she, but the only other option she had was "Stab Master" and that was just too lame.
Lady Rae was a much better title than that.
She quickly searched the others' titles to see what they got. Tian, Leo and Opal didn't have any listed at all, so they would likely get their names. Cara had "Chaos Gremlin" and "Taste Tester of Gods", which were both pretty decent.
Thor was "Thor the Defender", but it was Hawk's that made Rae laugh.
"Birb"
Just bird. Not even spelled right. Somehow it suited him.
Before exiting the menu, she changed Hawk's displayed title. If nobody was going to attack them, then they were almost done here. They had explored all the fashion and furniture styles in town, and now all that was left was sampling food to send back to Lotus and the others in the Tiny World.
There were a lot of restaurant options, and Rae had access to Karl's coins, so she wasn't worried about affording her shopping trip. Worst case, she would just exchange another credit and get a thousand more coins.
No problem.
What was more important was that there were fresh magical herbs and foods for sale here that they did not have in the Tiny World, or even in Remi's space.
They had to get a proper party ready for the Naga Queen when she returned, and that meant that they needed to find something new to her. You couldn't celebrate Immortality with the same old mortal treats.
You needed new things, and a bit of nostalgia.
But that reminded her, shouldn't someone have come to challenge her, or to initiate her? Did the guy who tried to cut her neck count? That was a bit disappointing.
It wasn't even in a crowded arena.
How could an initiation count if only a half dozen people even got to see it? No, the others got to watch the replay in the courthouse. That should count, even if it was a substandard substitute.
