Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 1378: The Terror of Cursed Power

Langde seized the perfect opportunity and threw the bat short staff in his hand. With his strength, if Ai Wei were hit at the heart, she would be severely injured if not dead. Either way, it would be a bad omen for Ai Wei.

Ai Wei swung the Soul-devouring Blade in her hand with full force at the bat short staff. With a swish, the blade sliced through, and the bat short staff broke into several pieces, which clattered to the ground with a smooth-as-silk cut.

Although she severed the bat short staff, the immense force still pushed her back repeatedly. By the time she steadied herself, Langde's figure had already disappeared from sight.

Ai Wei frowned slightly, suddenly sensing danger from behind. But she was too late to react; Langde somehow appeared behind her, his massive bat wings opening and clutching Ai Wei's shoulders, sharp claws piercing into her arm muscles, locking her tightly.

Langde suddenly exerted force, causing Ai Wei such pain that she nearly screamed, feeling as if her arm joints and muscles were being torn apart, her blood staining her clothes instantly.

"You've lost." Langde's eerie voice sounded.

Upon hearing his words, a mysterious gleam appeared in Ai Wei's eyes. From behind, a pair of enormous bat wings suddenly unfurled, fiercely striking Langde's chest. The event happened too quickly, too unexpectedly for Langde to react, and he was knocked backward.

Though Ai Wei's wing strike was powerful, it could deal with ordinary Blood Clan members but didn't cause much harm to an elder-level Langde. However, it freed her from his constraint.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Ai Wei would not pass up. After the wing strike, her claws descended in mid-air like an eagle swooping down on a rabbit. With a squelch, the claws penetrated Langde's scapula and locked tightly.

"Ah!" Langde cried out in agony, the sudden turn of events catching him off guard. He couldn't imagine that Ai Wei possessed elder-level strength, albeit an initial-stage elder, and had transformed bat wings.

Bat wings are a lethal weapon of the Blood Clan, and Langde fell for it. This was Ai Wei's brilliance. If she had revealed her wings initially, Langde would have been prepared and the sneak attack would not have succeeded.

The result proved her patience earned miraculous outcomes. Despite Ai Wei being inferior in rank compared to Langde, her battle experience was superior.

Langde, who had maintained the upper hand, was injured. His shoulder was gruesomely mangled, and Charlotte and the others relaxed slightly but dared not fully ease up because a Blood Clan member locked at the scapula wouldn't die so easily.

"Die!" Ai Wei shouted fiercely, her Soul-devouring Blade whirling in a reverse slash straight at Charlotte's neck. The benefit of Blood Clan combat lies in having an extra pair of bat wings beyond hands, which are more formidable than a pair of hands.

Ai Wei struck with resentment, her blade swift and aggressive, Langde's eyes widened with fear as the blade neared his neck.

Langde grasped the connection between Ai Wei's bat wing and her claws and tore forcefully. With a "shrrip" sound, blood splattered as he ripped off Ai Wei's claws from her bat wing.

Intense pain flooded in, nearly causing Ai Wei to faint. Her wings were forcibly torn like a person having an arm ripped off—an agonizing experience that made Rossi and Luo Lin shudder.

But Ai Wei gritted her teeth, enduring it. Her resolute desire for revenge fortified her willpower immeasurably, resisting the boundless pain while her blade continued to strike.

Langde, freed from restraint, could move again. He quickly recoiled, evading a critical surprise attack. This is the terror of a cornered beast, Langde's near-death threat stoked his fighting spirit.

He evaded a critical strike, preparing to retreat further beyond the reach of the Soul-devouring Blade, regroup, and counterattack.

Langde knew well this was Ai Wei's long-planned strike; failure now meant she would have no chance of winning.

Ai Wei was well aware of this. Having exposed her true strength, launching another threatening attack was impossible as Langde was now prepared.

I must have my revenge; I cannot allow this to happen, Ai Wei's mind surged with fierce resolve. Her Soul-devouring Blade seemingly sensed her determination; the ghostly claws trembled, piercing her wrist as if merging with her arm.

Another flesh-and-bone-slicing agony struck. Ai Wei seemed impervious to pain, her expression blank, her eyes emitting a devouring red light.

A massive energy surged into her body, propelling Ai Wei's blade upward rapidly, beyond her limit, elevated by the Soul-devouring Blade's support.

All this transpired in a single breath. Just as Langde thought to retreat, Lin Tian, somehow holding a pebble, flicked it forcefully, hitting Langde's bending leg, perplexing Ai Wei and Langde.

Langde's retreat paused, a beat too slow as the Soul-devouring Blade slashed upward, combining Ai Wei's might with the blade's force. Langde, impeded in retreat, only managed to twist aside, narrowly dodging a vital spot, yet the blade still brushed past his arm.

With a swish, blood splattered again as an arm flew off, landing on the grass a dozen meters away. Langde's arm was severed, nearly cleaved from the shoulder's root.

Langde felt a hint of relief as long as it wasn't a critical hit. Despite the sinister reputation of the Soul-devouring Blade, losing an arm wasn't lethal; a Blood Clan member could regrow an arm, not to mention he's a Blood Clan Elder, for whom arm regeneration is easy.

Yet the next moment he froze—the flesh at the wound wriggled but couldn't grow a new arm. A strange black aura at the severed area inhibited the flesh growth.

More terrifyingly, the black aura seemed to infiltrate internally. The wound showed signs of atrophy. Fear gripped Langde's heart; the Soul-devouring Blade was more dreadful than rumored.

"It's over. The curse power of the Eye of the Creator didn't disappoint me," Charlotte suddenly spoke.

As she spoke, Ai Wei again slashed out an intersecting blow, striking Langde's chest. Langde's heart trembled, his mind in chaos. Even if Lin Tian ceased involvement, he couldn't dodge the Soul-devouring Blade's enhanced attack.

With a crack, the sharp blade cut through his skin and muscle, severing his sternum, leaving a cross-shaped wound. The wound was terrifying, revealing the heart within the chest cavity.

Black aura seeped through the wound, instantly entwining Langde's heart, which, full of vitality, showed signs of atrophy. Langde's eyes opened wide as he fell, his body trembling yet unable to rise again.
