Author's note: POV changed to Nyx
Unlike most of the other Awakeners who came to the Abandoned Land after being chased out of the Main Land, I was born in this accursed land itself.
My mother was a prostitute who got accidentally pregnant, so ever since I became conscious, the only memories of childhood I had were of being abused by my mother—until I finally smashed her head open when I turned five.
It was also the same moment when I first awakened my powers. The chances of someone awakening in the Abandoned Lands were nearly 0.1%, yet I was one of those born from those odd chances.
The first thing I did after getting my powers was change my name. My mother had named me Mistake—that was what that bitch believed I was. I changed my name to Nyx—a beautiful name belonging to the goddess of the night and darkness.
I wanted to be like her, conquer this darkness of the Abandoned Land, leave this place, and find out how the dawn in the Main Land felt.
When I turned fifteen, I met Theon, a kid my age who had also defied all odds and awakened his Soulforce. He had the pretty face of a handsome prince that attracted the attention of many women. The Mayor's son of Dreadspire City, jealous of his looks, imprinted a hot iron mask on his face—one he never took off again. We two became instantly close, being the anomalies of this place.
Together, we conquered Dreadspire City, and our reign as El Dorado began when we found a secret path to the vein of Soul Stone crystals under the Mayor's castle after killing their entire family.
After that point, it didn't take us much time to conquer the rest of the Abandoned Land.
It had been fifteen years since my reign had begun here, yet I still couldn't enter the Main Land, stuck here like a frog at the bottom of a well.
When I first tried to leave ten years ago, an Awakener whose realm I couldn't fathom with my abilities stopped us at the entrance and declared that people of lowly birth were banned from entering the Main Land.
I was obviously aware that I couldn't defeat him, so I tried to make a deal with him.
If we provided him with one million kilograms of Mid-Tier Soul Stones and five million kilograms of Low-Tier Soul Stones for ten years every month, he would let us enter the Main Land.
Desperate to accomplish the task, I enslaved countless Awakeners and forced them into mining the Stones, but when I still couldn't reach the required quota, I also enslaved regular humans and threw them into the mines.
After a long time, the day of the agreement was about to come, but then unexpected news arrived.
Victor was killed, and a mysterious man named Lucifer Morningstar took his place in Forlorn City. He was illogically strong for his realm and could have even defeated me if I hadn't ambushed him with two other Awakened Sages.
"Well, it doesn't matter since we will soon win this battle and leave these Abandoned Lands for good," I murmured, closing my diary where I was writing all of this down.
I was sitting on my energy chair at the deepest part of the forest, just outside the barrier of the Forest of Gumiho. A hundred Awakeners, all at the peak of Spirit Realm stage, were spread around me, ready to attack the city on my order.
"It has been quite long since Charlie and Armin left," I said, resting my face on my palm. "Haven't they killed those two beasts yet?"
"Ma'am, it might be possible that they have already killed those beasts and gone to help Sir Theon."
"Haha, Madam Nyx, we should also go or we will miss all the fun."
"Yeah, I also want to drink the blood of those beasts."
I was about to give the order, but then an unfamiliar voice echoed from the front.
"If ya wanna drink blood, why don't ya try this?"
A giant man with the ears of a bear walked in, carrying two severed heads in both of his hands.
A sudden chill went down my spine as I recognized the heads. One was Charlie's, while the other half-sliced face definitely had Armin's hair.
"Wh-who are you—"
Before I could ask, my guards began falling one after another without even making a sound.
"Wh-what the hell is happening?!"
The flustered guards screamed, scanning the surroundings to find the source of the attack.
Within seconds, all hundred guards fell lifeless on the ground, and a blade touched my neck from behind.
"If not for Her Majesty, I would have killed you right now," a deep, growling male voice came from behind me. It sounded like a tiger had just whispered into my ears.
"When did he get behind me?" I gasped inwardly. "Even now, when he is standing behind me, I can't sense a presence at all. Th-these people… their presence is even more suppressing than that man at the entrance of the Main Land."
"Vyaghra, move back," another voice resounded.
At the top of the tree in front of me, a woman with pink hair stood gracefully, staring down at me.
"As you wish, Your Majesty," the figure behind me replied, and the knife lifted from my neck.
In the next moment, beside that bear beast, a male figure with dual black and golden hair emerged.
The moment the female beast arrived, both male beasts bowed their heads toward her.
"Di-did I hear that correctly?" Another gasp left my lips as I murmured. "S-she just called him Vyaghra… Is he the same figure I think he is? B-but that's not possible. He must be someone with the same name."
"How does it feel to be the one being ambushed?" the woman on the tree asked, elegantly reaching the ground with a tail of several plum blossoms trailing behind her.
Her eyes glowed with ethereal pink as she moved closer to me.
"I would have forgiven you if you had killed a thousand people since I had already decided not to interfere much in the affairs of this era. However—"
Her expression sharpened, several petals coiling violently around her, and her hair radiated with otherworldly pink energy, suppressing the air around me.
"How dare you threaten the life of my man?"
