Some minutes later, Uche could be seen walking through the shelves of books in the vampire academy library, searching each section carefully for the books the history teacher had told them about.
After searching for about a dozen minutes, Uche finally found what he was looking for—the Wikipedia book the history teacher had mentioned.
It was an old, leather-bound tome, thick with dust and age. The edges of its pages were yellowed, the title barely legible beneath layers of grime. Uche smiled.
"Found you, and without much stress,"
Uche muttered, running his finger across the spine before pulling it out.
He carried the book to one of the reading tables and sat down. The cover creaked as he opened it. Inside, instead of typed pages or organized entries, the book was filled with handwritten notes, sketches of ancient symbols, and faded ink drawings of vampires—some monstrous, others regal.
"It's really ancient,"
Uche whispered. He read the first couple of pages for a few minutes before opening the page the history teacher had mentioned, and there...
At the top of the page, in red ink, was written:
*The Original Bloodlines must not be forgotten.*
The page talked about the Original Vampires, mostly what the history teacher had already told them. It also talked about their history before turning into vampires and the reason they were turned, but Uche skipped those parts because that's not what he came here looking for—he could read that another day.
He flipped to the next page and finally, he could see it—he could see what he was looking for.
There was a section titled *The Original Vampire Hunter*—and beneath it, a name he had never heard before was boldly written: *Aros Vantrel.*
The passage described him as the Originals' nemesis, a walking adversary for all vampires.
*Aros Vantrel, the first and last human to challenge the Originals. A being who was both human and a vampire, born of cursed light and shadow. His purpose was singular—to hunt the vampires and restore the balance of blood.*
Uche read what was written on the page, and he felt his blood unsettling.
Beside the passage was an ink drawing of a tall figure cloaked in darkness, his face hidden beneath a hood. Only the faint outline of his jaw was visible, and beneath the hood, an eerie glow hinted at where eyes should have been.
"What is he?"
Uche muttered. He sighed deeply and flipped to the next page, which seemed to talk about everything concerning Aros Vantrel. Uche read it carefully.
*Just like Varlock was a researcher and a scientist before he was turned, Aros Vantrel was a great warlock—he practiced witchcraft.*
Below it was a drawing of a figure with a face hidden beneath a hood; a dark orb could be seen in his hand.
And after, the drawing of eight figures followed.
*The eight of them were friends, but Varlock and Aros Vantrel were the closest, and despite how close they were, the seven of them sought the power of darkness for themselves without the knowledge of Aros Vantrel.*
*Aros Vantrel was asleep the night they were turned, and after realizing that he had been turned into something else—something not human, a completely different entity that feeds on human blood—he almost killed himself. The others knew he wouldn't agree, and that's why they had done it behind him. They thought they were giving him power, but Aros hated himself for it; he hated them all for it.*
*He was told he needed human blood to completely transform into a vampire and live, or else he would die within seven days if he didn't take human blood. For the first six days, Aros tried everything he could to change himself back into a human, to reverse what they had done. He tried every magic he knew, every spell and every knowledge he had, but none of it worked. Then, on the seventh day when he was supposed to die by petrification, Aros Vantrel did something unimaginable.*
*He bit Varlock, the only person who had stayed with him the whole seven days. He bit him and drank from his blood, then Aros Vantrel went into a blood frenzy, killing every human in the village and drinking their blood.*
*After that, no one had seen Aros. He'd gone into hiding for a century, and when he finally came back, he'd turned into something else. Aros had learned to feed not on human blood but on vampire blood. He created an organization that hunted vampires and destroyed every vampire settlement.*
*He empowered his followers with the power of the sun, making vampires vulnerable against them. With each number of vampires his organization killed, their overall strength increased, and they made it their life's purpose to hunt down every vampire alive.*
"It's talking about the Hunters, so the organization was created by Aros Vantrel,"
Uche muttered.
*Aros could not use the power of the sun himself because he was a vampire, but what made the Originals fear him was that Aros' power increased with the number of vampires he killed; also, his urge to kill vampires increased with the number and strength of vampires surrounding him.*
"He's a complete monster."
Uche imagined Aros coming to the Arcane World—he'd be unstoppable with the number of vampires here; no one might survive his wrath.
"No wonder the Originals feared him."
*Aros Vantrel chased the Originals for thousands of years while his followers went after every vampire settlement in the human world. His goal was to kill the Originals—the root of the vampire race. Once the Originals were gone, their bloodline would disappear, and no vampire would exist in the world anymore. Although this theory is not proven yet, this was what Aros had been trying to achieve.*
*The Originals were immortal, so was Aros. They could only be killed by what gave them immortality, but this was only known among the seven of them. So they tried to kill Aros. After running for a thousand years, they turned back and engaged him in a fight, planning to kill him. But then they found out Aros' immortality was on another level—he couldn't be killed by what gave him immortality.*
*The Originals ran for another thousand years until they completely disappeared, including Aros. It was said that they managed to put Aros into eternal slumber and that he could only be awakened by his bloodline. But Aros Vantrel had no offspring before or after turning into a vampire, so he was marked as dead. The Originals also went into a deep slumber after the death of Aros, but they made sure to get rid of all his followers before that, fearing that one of them might find a way to wake him up.*
The passage ended there, and what followed was a drawing of a silver wooden box—a coffin completely wrapped up with thick long chains, different red glowing circles surrounding it, and seven people standing right in front of it.
"This Aros Vantrel is something else,"
Uche muttered.
