The whole room sucked in a good amount of air.
Just who the hell was this kid?
The fact that he had a guardian at the level of a Master was more than enough to drive both his fear and respect in them. But, this...
Looking at things, he seems to be at the level of people like the recently deceased prince. Or maybe even higher, the short footage of Shalis using the Shift was still replayed in their mind.
Either way, they did not feel comfortable to be in the presence of such a person, especially since his guardian was no longer present. If any harm came to him, who knows just disaster would befall them.
"See? just do it." Saquin's voice brought the room out of its eerie silence, placing his Comm back into his pocket, he walked down the platform. "You have nothing to worry about seriously, as long as the Access point is not magically spatially compromised, we are good."
He did not go far before he suddenly stopped in his tracks, a frown on his face.
The hearts of everyone in the room leaped at the sight.
"Shhhhh."
He hissed a breath as he gently turned towards Hank.
"Would you look at that? It was..."
He did not complete his statement as the frown on his face deepened.
Just, this time, he was not the only one frowning.
"What is with the shield, Hank?" One of the people present spoke up.
All those at Adept level or relative to it were frowning. The facility had suddenly been shielded. They recognized the shield, it was the facility's energy barrier that worked the same way as the city's. But, it was never active.
"I don't know, that was not me." Hank replied. "It is probably the Access, it is already disrupting technology."
"No, that is not it." Saquin refuted the claim. "Say Hank, quick question."
"Ask away." Hank was confused at Saquin's statement, but pushed down his confusion to hear the boy out.
"There won't happen to be an underground sector or sewage system right?" Saquin asked, a sense of urgency creeping up his tone.
"There is, but you would not be able to sense it as it was built to keep out the Senar senses of the Empowered." Hank answered. "Why did you ask?"
"Hmm." Saquin ignored the question as the gears in his head started spinning.
His mind wandered back to when he was searching for information about an Access. He remembered an article that he came across, one that required a high level of status to access.
Is it possible to replicate an Access formation...?
Asking himself this question, his head continued to spin at an insane rate as he thought back to everything that had happened in the last few hours.
The city barrier... It blocks spatial teleportation to an extent... So would this.
Shadow Agent and Giant... where had they seen the guts to attack me despite seeing Shalis fancy skill...
Suspicious, really suspicious...
Why is Seeker pointing at Star... wait, that has nothing to with the present situation.
Speaking of which,
Where the hell is Simons...
Oh wait.
Delivery, company... facility.
The core!!!
He turned to Hank and fired another question. "Since when has Kristen been working here?"
Looking at Saquin was staring at him like his answer would determine his life or death, Hank started to develop a bad feeling. Not that he did not already possess much of that already.
"She started about three months ago," he gave his answer. "You would not mind me asking why again right?"
Saquin paid no more attention to Hank after hearing three months. "She is not in the room with us, or the facility as a whole."
It all clicked in.
"Well, fuck."
As if waiting for that exact moment.
Booooom!!!!
The city shook as a muffled but powerful boom resounded in its interior.
Both the evacuating citizens and those assisting in the evacuation all looked up and stared at the same spot towards the city's southern outskirts.
An explosion.
An insane explosion had occurred in the energy facility.
The Empowereds littered across the city felt a chill run down their spine. The explosion had been terrible. They were sure that it could have taken a large chunk of the city with it if not for the barrier which contained it.
As they thought of this and the fear slowly rained from their body, replaced by their rationale, they gradually entered a state of shock.
Another chill ran down their spine, but this one was tons of time colder than the last.
In the event that ensued, a lot of civilian lives were lost as the Empowered scrambled their way through the crowd of people forcibly to get to the Teleportation Port. They had to run away.
The leaders were dead.
Not just dead, killed.
Killed in a way that guaranteed the existence of crazy but smart, resourceful people behind their death.
At the site of the explosion.
Energy flickered through the destroyed ruin of the former glorious Facility.
The energy barrier fizzled out.
The technology meant to sustain it had been pulverized.
At the dead center of the site, there was a two meter clearing, untouched by the debris or dust. There, the Core silently hovered above ground, unscathed.
The scene remained silent for a long while.
The residue energy from the plasmic explosion still charged the air, turning it into a field of death. It could be easily crossed by strong enough Empowered, but to be fair, it was pointless taking the minute damage when you just patiently wait for it to die down.
Meanwhile, the whole city had gone up in smoke as Empowereds cut down civilians and then were also cut down by other Empowered who still had their brain screwed in properly.
Thirty minutes into the carnage, the silent explosion site stirred as figures after figures appeared. The field of death had cleared.
"Spread out and finish them." A female voice carried over.
Kristen, with her long purple hair swaying about behind her, walked through the ruin and approached the Core.
On getting there, she summoned a glove and a box.
She gently picked up the Core with her gloved hand and placed it in the box.
It was at this time a shudder passed through the ground.
"Kristen!!! You bitch!" A roar sounded out as a giant form shot out of the rubble at her.
"Tch, not dead yet. Well, let's fix that." She hissed at the approaching Hank. "Support me, you both."
A staggering fight soon broke out as Hank took her and her subordinates, Shadow Agent and Giant.
Meanwhile, the other Empowered continue digging for survivors, waiting to finish them. They rarely saw any, the explosion had been so strong that only Adepts with Fighter types had a chance of surviving with their body intact.
One of the Empowered was diligently digging through the debris till he lifted up a giant piece of rock. What he met was a pair of cold eyes staring at him. He felt the eyes could pair into his soul.
He stood frozen to the spot as a hand reached out through the debris and pressed against him.
Like dominos falling apart at the slightest touch, his form shattered into frozen pieces of himself.
[ You have slain a Human -- High-level Senar Initiate {Mundane} ]
[ Senaressence extracted. ]
The debris parted as a pissed off Saquin staggered up to his feet.
"You motherfuckers better hope nothing happened to my happiness..."
He was back in white, a cold air drifted round his body. His body itself seemed frozen as patches of ice could be seen in parts of them, but ultimately he was fine.
"I still haven't figured out the mystery behind it after all."
His cold eyes brimmed with pure malice.
