The group of 4 stood atop the cliff denoting the end of the Elemental Valleys and the beginning of a new region. From their vantage point they could just see above the towering tree tops that stretched into the distance.
The group had been following a river to the edge of this region so before them raged a majestic waterfall that cascaded down the cliff side. Rainbows formed within the thick mist that is ever present from the water crashing into unforgiving rocks. Their is a gap of a few hundred meters between the base of the cliff and the actual start of the new biome, allowing them to truly appreciate the true size of the trees before them.
A drop of a few hundred meters stands before them down to the forest floor below. Off in the distance the towering peaks of a mighty mountain chain can just be made out, stretching out from north to south. The jagged peaks acting as a barrier that splits the Endless Forest in two.
For right now though they have to make a decision, for the day is waning and they are unsure if they want to brave this new local in the approaching darkness of night.
Opting for caution the group settles down some distance from the edge the group settles down to rest.
As the food is cooking Luna speaks up. "So you two must have travelled through this upcoming region right? What can we expect to find there?"
Rhyana is the one to speak up. "Well we came from the edge of this region, quite a bit to the south of where we currently are. But their are a lot of aquatic beasts that cal l this place home. We tried to avoid any waterways as we traveled through as the stronger beasts seemed to congregate in or along them. We didn't get into too many fights here, we simply weren't strong enough so spent most of our time either flying or sneaking through."
She sounded a touch embarrassed to admit her lacking strength, yet neither Violet or Luna would judge her for being cautious. Still both of them felt like they would be interested to fight some of these beasts that called the waterways home, even if they didn't actually venture into the depths themselves. Whilst they could swim, that didn't mean they were comfortable fighting whilst swimming.
Soon enough the night came and the group settled down. Violet in her humanoid form as she had been for the past few days, she informed Luna that she would be taking her normal form back when they ventured down to be on the safe side, something that luna completely agreed with.
Soon enough sleep took them.
Yet they were awoken long before the first rays of the morning sun peaked over the horizon.
Luna was the first to rise, feeling the unfamiliar sensation of water landing on her face she jolted up. Panic briefly overtook her, for in her life she only knew that rain meant the approach of the Endless Storm. Yet after a while she frowned in confusion as her mind slowly awoke.
Their was no storm, simple rain. Her mind tried to process that until she thought back to the announcement stating the death of the Titan and the destruction of its storm. Realisation hit and she looked up into the dark sky that gently released its burden of water.
Violet woke up too, sensing the momentary panic of her companion she bolted up, magic already swirling around her as her eyes searched for a threat that was not present. Seeing this Luna chuckled as she got Violet's attention by gently grasping her hand.
"Its fine Violet, it seems to just be rain? I don't think their will be a storm coming with it, at least I hope their won't be." That did seem to reassure the still half asleep dragon who dismissed her magics and collapsed back into Luna's embrace with a grunt.
"Mhh, then I will sleep for a bit more, too early." She mumbled out whilst burying her head into Luna's chest for warmth. Chuckling at her dragons antics Luna too settled back down as the rain slowly fell.
Luna tried to go back to sleep but found it hard with the rain constantly falling. So instead her mind wandered, she looked down as the dragon girl cuddled up to her and smiled as she gazed down at her. Violet had grown to really enjoy cuddling up with Luna these past weeks, something that Luna too had grown to enjoy. Be it in her humanoid or dragon form being with her companion filled her with a profound sense of happiness and calm.
So Luna embraced that feeling and slowly found herself drifting back to sleep.
The morning came soon enough, yet no sun shone down on them. The rain continued to drizzle in a never ending outpour. The two beastkin grumbled as they had to deal with sodden clothing, Violet meanwhile gleefully shed her dress and took back her dragon form. The rain simply sliding off her onyx scales.
With a grumble the two girls jumped onto their respective dragons backs before they took to the air. With powerful wingbeats they soon soared up and over the cliff edge, they continued to climb up as they got a better look at the landscape below them.
Innumerable rivers and lakes dotted the ground below them. A few clearing could be spotted which did not house a lake, and even some small hills and mountains rose out above the relatively flat ground. It was hard to see too far with the gloom cast by the dark clouds overhead yet the group spotted one clearing not too far away that they chose to land in.
Soon the two dragons tilted their wings and dove down towards the clearing. Circling tightly to avoid striking the towering trees with their wings. Before long they landed on the sodden ground, Luna and Susan quickly hopping off and looking around.
From down below the trees truly towered far above them, the lowest branches easily 30 meters up.
No movement was spotted at first as the group settled themselves and took in their surroundings. Yet the peace was soon shattered as a low reverberating growl echoed out from behind them. Instantly the group was on guard, bolts began to swirl around Violet's head, ice froze the grass beneith Luna's feet, lightning crackled across Rhyanas scales and a dome of water encircled Susan.
Yet the growl continued.
Slowly building in intensity as a presence crept into the clearing on which they stood.
When the presence blanketed the group their eyes opened wide and their legs shook. For the being that projected that presence was mighty.
Without even being able to see the beast that caused it all could tell that this beast was considerably stronger than the guardian beast they faced in the central valley.
Then they heard a footstep and all heads snapped in that direction to see what made the noise.
Emerging from the shadows surrounding the clearing a hulking form emerged. A long leathery snout with rows of jagged range protruding from each side of its wide maw. 6 powerful legs held a mighty body off the ground, each leg ended in wicked claws that dug furrows into the sodden ground. A thick tail with bone spikes protruding along its top along with a bone like club at the end slowly swished behind the beast.
As it came into view the group all stared in slight fear at the predator that stood before them, eyeing them all like it would a snack that just wandered into its home.
The growl stopped momentarily, the only sound that of the falling rain.
The group thought feverishly as they tried to come up with a way out of this situation. Yet only a single idea came that offered any chance of survival.
With a quick mental communication all 4 of them burst into motion.
A barrage if void volts flew forth quickly joined by a bolt of lightning, a moment later a wall of ice rose between them swiftly joined and reinforced by a wall of water. Then without a moments hesitation all four of them turned and fled.
