Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 115: Effects of the Rain

As the furious clashes between the two mighty beast faded into the distance the group did not dare to slow down. Only when they could no longer sense even a hint of their presence did they begin to slow, and that was only so they could take some time to clear away any tracks that they may have left behind.

From their they focused on moving stealthily through the forest, avoiding any open spaces and as suggested by Rhyana and Susan, avoiding any bodies of water like the plague.

Yet they soon noticed a worrying fact. The aquatic beasts that dominated this domain were no longer content to remain solely within the water. With the advent of the rain, the beasts that thrived in the water could now brave the surface, the continual rain providing these water specialised beasts an abundance of their preferred element.

Thankfully the group was able to avoid running into any more truly powerful beasts, well at least any that they were unable to sneak past anyway. They did feel the presence of several beasts that were in their fourth evolution, they tactfully avoiding them. Luckily, or unluckily depending on how one may see things, due to the numerous aquatic beasts venturing into the land, countless battles were taking place between the land and water denizens.

The group did not engage in any battles right away as they felt that they were still a touch out of their depth after the run in with the two beast lords earlier.

Technically any beast that surpasses the level 80 mark can be considered a beast lord, yet that moniker only truly applies to the standouts amongst those above that level. The frog and crocodile beasts that they ran from most definitely fit that moniker. The guardian beast from the central valley also fit the title of beast lord. Yet from quite a few of the presences that they felt whilst sneaking through the sodden forest lacked a certain something.

Their was an image sense of supremacy, in the presences of the beast lords that was simply lacking from several 4th evolution beasts that the group sensed. Not to say that they were not powerful regardless, for they most definitely were. Just when compared to others of their rank they were lacking.

"I think we should try and find somewhere to set up a base, we can then either wait out this rain or use it as a central spot to scout out the surroundings and get a better deal for this region." Luna eventually spoke up after they had managed to escape the notice of yet another powerhouse.

The others who were all beginning to feel the stress of having to constantly stay on alert, to avoid the notice of the strong beasts that called this region home had to agree with her statement. It was particularly draining to be constantly on guard, and they had barely made any progress east as they had to regularly change direction to avoid running into a beasts domain.

With the party in agreement they began to search for a spot that they could call home, for now at least.

The day slowly passed with the girls steadily making their way through the rain filled forest. They managed to avoid getting embroiled in any fights, and they only had to run away from one more beast that tried to ambush them. Thankfully it was held off long enough for the group to escape, and with the beast not exactly being very fast they managed to flee successfully.

As the day turned to evening they finally came across a promising option for a base of operations. It was a small mountain, or really just a large hill, at the base of that hill however was a cave opening. It was not too large of an opening but looked to have quite the large space inside. Saddly for our girls it also looked to be currently occupied.

They could not sense any kind of presence so they hoped that the beast that was currently residing within was not over level 80, yet the beast could be simply hiding its presence. Either way the group knew that they were unlikely to find a better spot for them to claim.

So with resolution the four women slowly approached.

Entering into the cave they were greeted by the sight of a large open space around a hundred meters across, it was roughly circular with a few rocky columns scattered through the area.

Near the back wall the beast lay, although it was now in the process of standing as it sensed intruders.

It stood around 3 meters long with 4 stubby legs, a long flat tail protruded out from behind it, along its back and tail thick armour plates covered it providing plenty of protection. Its 2 beady eyes shone a deep brown yet lacked any clear intelligence.

As it observed the intruders, they in turn observed it. The group spread out slightly, with Luna and Rhyana taking the centre whilst Violet and Susan flanked the two.

No one moved for a moment before the silence was broken when Violet unleashed a aura infused roar and launched a barrage of void bolts. Susan followed suit and unleashed a stream of bubbles towards the foe, they traveled slowly but packed quite the punch when they exploded.

In answer to that the beast summoned forth a short wall of stone that managed to block most of the void bolts, still some punched through the barrier and struck the beast, yet its thick armour was reinforced by a secondary later of stone that absorbed the impact. Luna then took a step and appeared to the side of the beast, her spear raised as she slashed down whilst unleashing her Arctic domain.

The brash was surprisingly fast, as it rolled into a ball causing Luna's attack to simply bounce off. As it absorbed the impact of the blow its body was sent rocketing to the side, where it proceeded to gain speed as it rolled along the floor and bounced off one of the pillars before shooting off towards the three girls. Rhyana, her body imbued with lighting dashed forward, bolts of lightning firing off towards the incoming beast projectile.

Her lightning skidded off harmlessly, with the ball now flying straight at her. A shield of void popped up before her with a wall of water forming a moment later, sadly neither barriers were able to slow the beast down for more than a moment. As it crashed through Rhyana tried to slash at it with her claws, yet they too simply skidded off its hardened shell. A moment later the beast crashed into Rhyana with a muted boom, the blue dragon was sent flying back and crashed into a nearby column.

Seeing this Luna cursed to herself and dashed after the speedy death ball, all the time firing off ice spears at its rapidly moving body.

Violet, after seeing its incredible defences opted to forgo any testing strikes and opted to go straight for her void cannon. Rune began to etch themselves into the fabric of reality itself as her magic circle slowly began to form above her. At the same time she unleashed her piercing void spears, knowing that this kind of foe is exactly what this upgraded spell was designed for.

The beast turned to try and face off against Susan yet when it moved in her direction it crashed into the swarm of water bubbles that surrounded her. As it touched the first one a loud POP sounded out, the concussive force of the detonation sent the beast off course and straight into another bubble. This repeated as the beast was sent flying into dozens of bubbles, each one sending shockwaves through the beasts defences.

Then the ice and void spears landed on the staggered foe. The ice spears found the gaps in the beasts armoured plates, whilst the void spears simply drilled right through them. The void spears did not pierce straight through the hardened defences, yet they still peirced through most of them, then when they detonated large chunks of the plating were blasted away.

When a bolt of lightning then crashed into the beast a moment later, the crackling currents were able to find purchase on its flesh. The beast soasmed as the current overwhelmed it momentarily.

Lina then arrived, her spear digging into the holes left by violets attack. Each strike she landed slowing the beast ever so slightly.

Before long though Violet was ready, she called out and both Luna and Susan worked to hold the beast down for but a moment. Water surged around it, instantly that water froze over, momentarily locking it down. Then with a WHUMP a barrel sized blast of void punched right through the beast. With a final cry of pain the beast finally fell. And a moment later they received confirmation of the kill.
