Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 116: New Base

With the defeat of the Armadillo the group took some time recuperating, only Rhyana was actually injured during the fight and thankfully Susan was able to get her patched up relatively quickly. For the rest of them they just took some time to catch their breath.

For whilst it may have been a short battle, hardly lasting a full minute. A lot happened on that short time. And competing with the speed of the beast as it bounced around was quite the unexpected issue. Thankfully it was one that they managed to overcome.

Thinking on it Violet was once again reminded that they make quite a good team. From Rhyana and Luna to take the attention of their foes from the front, to Susan providing magical assistance and healing, then Violet herself being the magical damage dealer. Plus most of them could easily switch roles if needed, with the exception of maybe Susan, she would probabally not do too well if beasts got up close to her.

Regardless the group now had a new base to call their own. Not one to waste time unnecessarily, Violet got to work cleaning up a spot for them to set up camp. She chose an alcove on one side of the large cave, wanting a spot were the light of their fire would not be spotted easily from outside. Yet still provided them a good view of said entrance.

For whilst they had never bothered with keeping watch during the night before, Violet had a strong feeling that if they remained lax in doing so here… the results could be quite disastrous.

So once a spot was cleared out and the beast had been butchered for its meat she spoke up to say so. "I think one of us should be up at all times during the night here, I have a feeling that we won't be safe to just sleep through the night. At least not when we are as weak as we currently are when compared to everything else here."

"I agree, the beasts here are just too powerful. We should let our guards down. How will we split up the watch?" Said Rhyana. "I also think we should try to fly further east as quickly as possible, we should not linger here else we encounter something that we are unable to escape from."

At her words both Violet and Luna frowned, clearly not liking that last part. For whilst they both agreed that they were clearly now near the bottom of the local food chain, that was not a deterrent to the two girls, if anything that was a positive. They had started their journey out as some of the weakest creatures in their local region, and only through hard work and tough battles had they grown strong.

So the idea of just running away completely without even trying to challenge this place did not sit right with Esther of the girls.

Violet made that point clear quite quickly. "No. We will stay here for a while. We need to get stronger, and this is the perfect place to do so." At her words both Rhyana and Susan looked at her like she was stupid.

"How are we supposed to get stronger when we are the weakest beasts around? It's too dangerous!" Rhyana insisted, sounding slightly panicked.

Luna snorted in amusement at her words. "And that's exactly why it is the best place for us to grow stronger. We are not defenceless, and their are undoubtedly beasts weaker than us here. We just need to be careful and pick our fights. If we can get some more levels then it won't be too long before we are able to challenge some 4th evolution beasts as a group. Heck that armadillo was only a couple levels off that threshold and we managed that one pretty easily!"

Violet nodded at her companions words, but seeing the still unsure look on the other twos faces she opted to try and reassure them. "Look you want us to challenge the Kingdom of Eldor right?" Getting a hesitant nod from the blue dragon Violet continued. "And how exactly are we going to do so if we remain as weak as we are? I don't know how strong they are but based on what iv heard they must be a lot stronger than us. We need more strength if we want to have any chance of success, and this place… this place gives us the perfect opportunity to get stronger. Why would we not take this chance?"

Her words did seem to have some effect as Rhyana looked to go deep into thought at her words. Susan still seemed a bit unsure at the prospect of having to battle more beasts similar to the guardian, except with only their current group and not a large array of powerful beasts. Still before long a glint of resolve found its way into her eyes as she looked up at our companions.

"I want to be strong… I hate being weak, being weak has been the cause of everything that went wrong in my life. So - so if I have to rush into danger to no longer be weak. Then I'll do it!" The dog kind voice started softly yet gained strength as she went on, clearly she had gone through some trying times, yet the girls did not pry as it was also clear that she did not want to delve into them much.

Still Violet was quite proud of the usually shy woman, it was nice to see her come out of her shell somewhat. It almost reminded her of Luna when they first met.

Back then Luna had been a scared little girl, she still remembered the funny name that she had called her back then, the silly small sad one. Huffing in amusement at the thought Violet looked up at Susan with approval.

Rhyana was also effected by Susan's words, they range true with her own experiences. She too had suffered for the simple crime of being weak, if she were stronger than she would not have to suffer through the indignity of being captured ever again. She also once more thought back to her quest, it had told her to learn from the wild one, and Rhyana had a sneaking suspicion that this.. this was an important lesson to learn.

It was at this point that the food was finally ready. The group had a quiet meal as they thought over what awaited them in the coming days, their would be many hardships, of that their was no doubt. Yet at the same time their would be plenty of opportunities to grow strong. And to grow strong is exactly what all of them strived for.
