With the arrival of a new and powerful creature behind them the group pushed forward. They still tried to maintain some form of stealth, yet soon found that they had to speed up else risk the being behind them catching up.
So they were forced to somewhat abandon their attempts at stealth and instead rush forth, long decrepit buildings and overgrown streets flashed by as the group advanced.
Still in the outer edges of this long fallen city they failed to identify any living beings. Signs of life were present however, and continually growing more and more common, including signs of battle.
Speaking of battle, the sounds of combat from up ahead continued to grow ever closer. Sporadic as they were, the tell tale signs of fighting could still be sensed by the group.
As they advanced it became clearer to Violet how the current denizens of this city were sepersted.
To the north was the signature of the other corrupted being, it seemed to have claimed that section of the city. But was actively pushing its nascent domain to the south and east, working on claiming the rest of the world behind the walls.
The west, where Violet and co we're currently moving swiftly through. Seemed to be a no man's land of sorts, no dominant presence seemed to be found here. Well except for the being that was currently advancing into the city behind our group.
The south side of the city seemed to be home to the assortment of 'normal' beast lords. Whilst it was unusual for such a collection of beasts to gather, this seemed to be such an unusual occurrence. With the various beast lords being forced to work together to hold back the corrupted foe that chose to invade their domain.
The east was seemingly claimed by the being behind the familiar signature that Violet could sense. And as she grew ever closer to it she began to get a better feeling for its nature. It was wild, chaotic yet following its own sense of logic. It reminded Violet of the violent storm that she once bore witness too, its chaotic mix of power and inevitability. Yet, it did not hold the overwhelming presence of the Titan, for the Titan was dead.
Yet maybe this being once belonged to the hoard that once followed the Titan. Separated from its master and searching for a domain to call home. Well this region of near constant rain sure seemed like an appropriate local for it to settle down in. However, it sure chose a chaotic location to decide on, although, maybe that suited this being just fine, chaos did seem to fit its presence quite well.
Quickly analysing all of this information as they ran, Violet decided in the location that they should first approach.
Changing her direction slightly, Violet guided her group to the south side of the city. Intending to come into contact with the resident beast lords, and hoping that they would be the most receptive to their presence.
—-
Near the center of the city a strange collection of beasts was currently gathered. 5 beast lords were assembled, their forces currently engaged in battle with the encroaching forces.
This assortment of beasts once held dominion over this fallen city. Each one laying claim to a particular section, the most powerful being the earth wyrm that once called the central castle home.
However, in the past week disaster had befallen this city once again. Corruption surged up from below them, forcing the northern beast lord to abandon its long held domain and seek the aid of its contemporaries. At first they scorned this lord for being weak and undeserving of their support. Yet when the creature from the deep moved west and crushed the domain of its resident lord, the others quickly realised the magnitude of this threat.
So united in their desire to eradicate the menace that was unleashing waves of lesser monsters into their city, the lords gathered their forces and worked to push them back.
At first they were successful, managing to force the creature and its hoard back to the northern section of the city. Yet they were soon dealt with an unexpected variant, a second powerful being arrived from the east.
This was a beast of the storm, powerful and in command of a vast number of its lesser ilk they dealt a devastating blow to the arrayed lords forces. Driving them back from their offensive and removing them from the east of the city.
This forced the assembled beasts to now fight a three way battle, the corrupted minions on one side, the storm touched on the other and the local lords forming the last.
Individually none of the lords were strong enough to defeat the singular powerhouses of the other new factions present. Yet they had a chance, however small when working together. But with the arrival of the storm touched they could no longer risk doing battle with the corrupted leader, else they risked being assaulted by the storm touched from behind.
So now they had been forced into an uneasy stalemate, the central region now being the de facto battleground for this three way war.
The storm touched and corrupted seemed content with only allowing the weaker of their ilk to do battle. So the lords responded in kind, forcing the lesser beasts that lived in their domains to fight for their homes and their lords. Their alliance was one of necessity, not of desire.
But they knew that they had no chance of surviving if they did not work together to fight against the invaders.
So here the 5 lords gathered, they organised their forces, scouted their foes and tried to figure out how to break this hated stalemate that sapped at their forces.
It was then that one such scout arrived, a eagle of sorts that belonged to the only flying lord present, the wind roc that previously lay claim to the west. The eagle brought news of a new arrival, a second being of corruption had arrived in the city. Advancing from the west and making a beeline to the other corrupted being in the north. And a fresh hoard of monsters was trailing along in their masters wake.
A sense of grim horror settled over the assembled beasts, all of them knowing that this could potentially mark their end. They were no match for two such beings, let alone when the storm touched were also involved.
Yet all hope seemed to not be lost just yet, for as the lords present contemplated if they should abandon their long held domain something else now caught their attention. A new presence brushed against their own, no two new presences. One was so cold that just sensing it sent shivers down all the lords spines, it radiated a sense of primal power and authority.
However, it was the second presence that truly caught the assembled lords attention. This one spoke of a primordial power, wild ambition and of a presence of a being that has come to claim what was once thought lost to the world. For the oxen, weasel and rat beast lord, they only felt the dormant power behind these new presences.
But for the roc and earth wyrm, the second one spoke to their instincts. For the roc it felt like the true ruler of the sky had descended to the earth once more. For the wyrm, it was like its very blood spoke of the true ruler of all draconic beings had arrived.
For in fact the true ruler of the Skys had arrived, along with the purest of all dragons. For the last Wild Dragon had arrived.
