With the last remnants of the corruption expunged, both Violet and Luna sagged with momentary exhaustion. Although they had won the battle of wills, it was still quite a taxing endeavour to defeat a piece of corruption spawned from several high level Terrors. After all both Violet and Luna were still very early in the Lord stage.
They only managed to succeed this way because Ivy had only left a small patch of corruption for them to compete with.
This also just goes to show how powerful Ivy is, she alone dealt with a vast amount of corruption in mere moments all by herself. Granted she had much better control over her presence and was an entire tier above the corruption, but still, it was an impressive display of skill that both companions admired now that they had experienced it themselves.
"Very well done you two! I'm impressed you managed to succeed on your first try! It took me several attempts before I was able to achieve what the two of you did when I was around your level." Both girls basked under the praise, clearly quite please with themselves.
"Thank you, it was only possible because we helped each other out. I don't think I would have been able to do anywhere near as well by myself." Luna replied, she gazed down at Violet who was currently helping her remain on her feet affectionately.
Ivy clearly noted this, and coupled with how they were able to effortlessly merge their presences was easily able to grasp how the two felt towards each other. She did not say anything however, instead she simply let them bask in the success.
"How did you manage to move your presence like that? I struggle to even move mine with any real intent past withdrawing or expanding mine." Rhyana asked after a moment.
"Well practice is the key factor, you need to constantly practice manipulating your presence, their is no shortcut saddly but eventually you will be able to control it as you would one of your own limbs. Better control will also naturally come as you grow stronger, but you still need to practice and train with it. I can show you all some basic manipulation techniques, but for now, let's head somewhere so we can have a chat alright?"
Everyone nodded at Ivy's words causing her to smile widely at the group. "Well then, follow me!"
Like that the Dryad led the group away from the clearing. They traveled quickly, not speaking all too much as they focused on navigating the terrain and making sure they didn't fall behind Ivys demanding pace.
Soon enough thought, they reached a secluded grove of trees, their branches entwining overhead and protecting them from the rain. Within the center of the grove a small campsite had clearly been set up. As Ivy walked into the center of this campsite her presence once more blanketed the area, this time without suppressing the girls.
Then the clearing came to life.
Doors sprouted from the ground, vines and mosses grew, wooden benches emerged from the ground in a ring around a campfire that sprang to life.
The display of magic once more stunned the group, all of them at a loss for how such a feet was achieved.
Slightly dumbfounded by what Ivy had displayed Violet found herself sitting down on one of the benches besides the fire, Luna plopping down next to her after a moment. Rhyana settled down on a patch of moss that had been grown whilst Susan settled next to her on another bench. Then with a graceful flourish, Ivy sat down atop her own bench before flashing them all a wide smile.
"I welcome you to my camp Wild ones, I hope that my hospitality is acceptable." She then proceeded to summon forth giant hunks of meat from a storage item of some kind, setting them above the fire and allowing them to slowly cook. The fragrant juices soon running down the meat and sizzling into the fire below.
"So, what is it that you wish to know young Violet? I did promise to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. But please do be aware, I never personally met your mother, I only know stories about her." Ivys lilting voice was remarkably somber as she spoke those words, causing some of Violet's bubbling excitement to die.
Still the young void dragon was not deterred, she quickly gathered her thoughts and asked her first question. "Why were the Wild Dragons killed off? If they are so important to the Wilds then why did no one aid them when they were being hunted?"
"Sigh… going straight for the tough questions I see. But the answer is quite simple really. Many beings did try to assist them, a Great War was waged against the Kingdom of Eldor who was responsible for the hunt. Yet even with their might they still lost, dozens of city's from within the Endless Forest were wiped out by the army's of Eldor. Their might was focused on those who supported the dragons first."
"Those few city's that remained after the initial purge were too afraid or caught up in their own conflicts to be able to support the dragons. As for why this happened, well I'm not entirely sure myself, but my best guess is human greed. Eldor has always been antagonistic against any being with beast blood in them, they viewed dragons as the greatest threat to their ascension, so chose to remove them."
A sober silence hung over the campsite at these words. Violet and Rhyana frozen in place as they finally gained an understanding of what caused their race to fall to their current state.
Eventually Violet spoke up again, her voice soft and full of emotion. "C-can you tell me the story of my mother? What you know of it at least?"
A sad smile played at Ivy's lips as she nodded. "Sure, I'll tell you what I know. Now - where to begin… well from what I know Moraznia was born around 400 years ago. She was the only child of the Dragon King, as such her birth was celebrated across the Wilds. She was greatly loved by the King, sadly her mother died shortly before her egg hatched if I remember correctly. So she grew up with only her father to raise her."
"I don't know too much about how she grew up, but I do know a few stories. One is about when she 'invaded' a city, apparently one day she decided that she wanted to try the local food of one of the Forest city's. So she decided to fly straight to it, she then proceeded to land atop its walls and demand food. The silly nobles in their panic offered her the prisoners and dregs of society as sacrifices to her. This enraged Moraznia as she wanted actual food not people, so in her fit of rage she proceeded to kill the nobles who did this. Crush the mayors mansion and then forced the greatest chef in the city to cook her some actual food."
"It was several days later when the dragon king heard of this that he flew over to see what was going on. He then found his beloved daughter sitting atop a crushed mansion with the people of the city now serving her every whim, be it out of fear or genuine admiration for removing the corrupt nobles from the city! She was then promptly dragged off by the king, but apparently the city still viewed her as their saviour for many years after the fact. She would then return to this city every few years, where she would be showered with endless food as thanks for her last actions."
Violet's eyes were wide as could be, to think that her mother was a princess, whatever that was. And she had a grandpa! Who was apparently very strong! Which was only right considering she was from the same family as them. Then the story of how she concurred an entire city! Violet was in awe and could get the wide grin off her face as she imagined how awesome her mother must have been!
Luna however, had a slightly different reaction, she tried to hold it in, she really did. But she was eventually unable to do so any longer, a bark of laughter escaped her. She quickly slapped her hands over her mouth, but it was too late and the laughter continued.
"Haha-hahah oh I can so imagine you doing something similar Violet! I can just picture it, you flying to a city and just demanding food from them! Haha." She broke down in laughter as she imagined her companion copying her mothers example.
For her part Violet pouted at Luna, she then proceeded to mutter under her breath. "I don't see anything wrong with doing that. Silly stupid small one."
However, her muttered rebuttal only caused Luna to laugh all the harder as she saw Violet's pouting face.
