Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 80: Across the Void (4)

As the behemoth bellowed its challenge a moment of silence overtook the battlefield as no beasts dared be the first to move.

At least until two midnight wings unfurled from the centre of the hoard. Standing on her hind legs Violet answered the challenge with a roar of her own. Once more blasting her aura out at full strength, she then leapt into the air and headed straight for the behemoth intending to fight the king head on.

Luna watched her companion go with a stab of fear in her heart, whilst she knew how strong Violet was and despite her jabs genuinely trusted her judgment in most cases. Against a foe like that, she was worried. If this were any other situation they would have ran from such an unfavourable fight.

Yet here and now with their own group of beasts that looked to Violet for support and leadership. Luna knew that the proud dragon would not allow a challenge like this to go unanswered.

So gritting her teeth in determination Luna let loose her own bellow and dove back into the momentarily still field of battle, her actions reignited the war and mayhem once more overtook the area.

Whilst Luna may not be of help in that clash of leaders, in a fight like this. Luna could truly make a difference. Her armour of ice solidified around her and an aura of chill emanated from her body, subtly slowing down any foe that got too close.

So as Violet headed towards that king, Luna would act as her right hand and lead the army to victory in her stead.

Violet dove through the air a magic circle rapidly forming behind her as she charged her strongest attack. At the same time void began to coat her claws and teeth as she readied herself for the battle to come.

The behemoth did not allow her charge to go unanswered and jagged spike of earth rose up from below aiming to skewer her. The king seemingly not caring that more often than not he would be impalling his own army in the process. Violet managed to swerve between the rapidly growing pillars, narrowly avoiding the razor sharp spikes that hoped to maim her.

When she was less than 100 meters away her circle was fully formed and was simply awaiting the signal to be released. She first fired off 2 void spears to test the beasts defences, she was glad that she did so as a thick wall of rock rose from the ground to intercept the incoming projectiles.

Not to be deterred Violet stepped to the side and appeared around 40 meters to the side before repeating the attack, only for yet another wall to rise up to intercept the blow. Her spears did manage to crack the wall but by themselves they were not enough to price the defence. She repeated this process twice more each time going in the same direction, and each time the behemoth responded with its wall of stone.

After the latest attack she changed things up and stepped directly at the king, but appeared far behind it, instantly launching 3 spears. A moment later she activated the cannon and let that loose to chase behind them.

The king did react fast to the sudden change in pattern and spun around as fast as it could. At the same time yet another shield rose up to impact with the spears.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

The 3 attacks struck the barrier, with the last one finally shattering the defence. Not a moment later a supercharged blast of void punched through the collapsing defences and impacted with the side of the giant. A bellow of pain cut through the background clamor of the battle, the cannon shredded the kings defences and punched a whole straight through its side.

A small fountain of blood and viscera erupted from the fresh wound, yet the kind acted like it was no issue. And considering the beasts size Violet was unsure if her mightiest attack truly was that insignificant.

Yet when the king moved to properly face her Violet noticed the hitch in its movement, seeing this a vicious smile blossomed on the dragons lips. Knowing that the beast could be hurt she unleashed a barrage of void bolts, at the same time she closed the distance and aimed for its legs.

More spike of earth rose up to impede her advance coupled with bolts of stone that manifested around the giant. All of the attacks were near flawlessly avoided with only a singular bolt striking the dragon on the side of her head momentarily dazing her. Meanwhile Violet barrage was more successful with multiple small explosions rocking the behemoths body as she exchanged blows.

Then she was atop it. Her claws dug deep trenches down its back, here the beasts size was a true hindrance for it yet a bonus for Violet. She never stopped her barrage and more and more craters were forming across the beast.

With another bellow of fury at the ant that dared to wound it the king unleashed a condensed blast of mana in all directions. Violet was thrown off and any unfortunate beast nearby was similarly impacted, with the stronger ones being simply knocked back whilst the weaker foes being crushed by the wall of power that was unleashed.

Violet impacted with the ground not too far away and looked up at the towering giant, more spears began to form around her before launching forwards. Another wall rose to block yet as before it only managed to block two strikes, Violet had launched much more than 2. More explosions rang out as she ruthlessly attacked the behemoth, always aiming for spots that could impair its mobility and senses.

One lucky spear managed to strike true and priced one of the kings eye, blinding the foe from that side. Making use of that Violet dove in once more, aiming for its front two legs.

Her claws shredded through the thick legs, whilst not easy thanks to her strength and the nature of the void she managed it. However when she reached the bone her attack came to a sudden halt, as she was unable go tear through the adamantine bone.

Still it did plenty of damage and the beast cried out in pain once more. Violet had to dive out of the way next though as one of the other legs was brought down with earth shattering force. Upon impacting the ground a ring of spike shot out in a circle, harmlessly impacting the beasts legs yet managed to punch through Violet's scales with worrying ease.

One hit her shoulder and another tore straight through a wing. The pain was blinding and caused her to stagger back, yet she refused to stop and dove right back in.

Whilst this was a mighty foe and one wrong move could spell disaster. She also knew one key thing. It could bleed, and she sure as heck wanted to make it bleed some more.
