King

Chapter 4: Hudson's Proposal

"Those damn elves, are they trying to destroy the continent?"

The bad news came; the magic cataclysm could no longer be easily extinguished.

Noticing something was wrong, Hudson personally went to check. The demon army had already exceeded a hundred thousand, with as many as thirteen Light Demon Kings.

And this number was still increasing.

The original spatial rift had now turned into a spatial passage, a hundred meters wide, sufficient for a large army to pass through normally.

Having missed the best time to extinguish the demons, a tough battle was ahead. We could only hope that the connected abyss wasn't too strong and that the various races of the continent could withstand it.

"Now that things have come to this, everyone quickly send the message back and prepare the army for war!

The Abyssal Plane has many layers. If the connection is to the weakest layer, we might still have a chance of winning.

Also, pass the message to all the races of the continent. The abyss invasion signifies destruction, and no one can avoid this disaster!"

Hudson said with a grave expression.

Deep inside, his anxiety grew stronger.

Instinct told him that the abyss invasion was just the beginning, and more trouble was coming his way.

Just as everyone accepted reality, they received messages from the elves and the Stone People Race, reigniting their fury.

Especially the people of the Five Nations Alliance, who immediately began to curse.

If the elves wanted to leave, they could have just said so straight up!

Others would make trouble, while these beneficiaries would certainly fully cooperate.

Even if there was a lack of trust, notifying them in advance when opening the spatial rift would have allowed them to immediately proceed with the aftermath.

Sending the message now was essentially the same as saying nothing.

The demon army had already arrived, and it was no longer something a few experts could handle if they wanted to choke the enemy at the source.

Even if the nearest Moxi Kingdom immediately gathered its army, the earliest it could act was in half a month.

This was the ideal scenario. After over thirty peaceful years, the mobilization efficiency of the continent's countries had declined to varying degrees.

To mobilize the main force for a distant expedition, completing the preparations in a month would be a miracle.

Hudson didn't believe that in peacetime, the Moxi people could have reserved all the supplies for a million-strong army expedition ready at any moment.

Even if the rulers were cautious in times of peace, finances wouldn't allow them to squander like this.

After all, strategic supplies have a shelf life and must be replaced regularly.

Only in tumultuous times would people prepare for battle regardless of cost to ensure national safety.

After the brief episode, everyone became busy.

The onlookers chose to distance themselves from this place of trouble.

Though they hadn't experienced an abyss invasion, everyone had heard the mythological legends.

The historical abyss invasions of the Continent of Aslante had brought devastating disasters to all races, with many powerful ones vanishing in the wars.

Continuing the lineage of a species depended not only on heroic figures turning the tide but also on divine intervention at critical times.

Now, with the fall of the gods, the trouble had to be handled by the races of the continent themselves.

Anyone with a bit of sense knew that the Moxi Kingdom was in trouble this time, and so was the Five Nations Alliance.

Once the demon army launched an attack, these neighboring countries would be the largest victims.

If they didn't hurry to leave now, once the conscription order came down, leaving would no longer be an option.

...

"Hudson, what should we do next?"

George the First asked with concern.

Having been king for decades, if he wasn't fighting enemies, he was preparing to fight them.

After finally having some years of peace, he didn't expect to face war again at the end of his life.

Distant water won't quench immediate thirst; when reinforcements from various nations would arrive was still unknown.

The initial pressure could only be borne by the Moxi Kingdom itself.

Perhaps the reinforcements from the Alpha Empire would arrive a bit quicker, but that too would take a month.

"I checked, this time the demon army is not those remnants from the last magic cataclysm.

Demons are born for battle; these organized demon armies probably have stronger combat power than many Knight Corps.

When ordinary soldiers encounter them, lives will be the cost.

The probability of winning in a field battle is too low, better to opt for a solid defense!

In recent years, you've built many Magic Towers along the border; they can be put to good use now."

Hearing Hudson's response, the ministers of the Moxi Kingdom all turned their eyes to George the First.

After the ceasefire treaty was signed, many countries let down their guard, and the Moxi Kingdom also followed this trend.

Fortunately, George the First resisted the pressure and continued maintaining high military expenditures.

The Moxi military was deeply influenced by Hudson; seeing the Snow Moon Duchy's Magic Towers, they followed suit.

In border areas, the sight of Magic Towers was evident in some important cities.

Originally, it was thought the elves had left, and these facilities were a waste, but unexpectedly, they became a lifeline at a crucial moment.

Everyone was smart enough to understand that Hudson's statement about low odds in a field battle was a way to save face.

In reality, there wasn't even a slim chance!

An organized demon regular army; even an ordinary soldier has the combat power of a mid or Senior Knight.

In the Moxi Kingdom, only a few elite Knight Corps could overpower them in combat.

"Alright!

Chancellor, immediately issue a decree for nationwide mobilization.

Tell the nobles that the kingdom's life and death moment has arrived; they need to bring forth all their strength to seize a slim chance of survival!"

It was evident that George the First was quite pessimistic about this war.
