The Smiling Death

Chapter 164: Date With Adelia (2)

Amon and Adelia walked side by side, their hands still intertwined. The street was lively. Vendors calling out, couples strolling, children running with sweets in hand.

But somehow, the noise felt distant compared to the warmth between their joined palms.

Adelia kept glancing around nervously, her grip tightening every time she spotted someone wearing clothes that even slightly resembled academy uniforms.

Amon noticed and leaned closer. "Professor, relax. No one here knows us."

Adelia shot him a look. "Amon… that is exactly what someone who is about to get caught would say."

Amon couldn't help but feel amused at her reactions. The usually elegant, kind, warm professor looked adorable.

He chuckled softly. "You're too cute when you worry."

Her steps faltered for a moment. "C-cute? Amon. Don't say such things so casually…" Her cheeks flushed again, a gentle pink that matched her dress too perfectly. She really didn't understand why she was feeling shy today.

It's not the first time Amon complimented her or teased her.

Amon smirked. "But it's true."

Adelia ignored the comment and changed the subject quickly. "Let's… let's go. The café I mentioned is nearby."

---

The Café

The two soon arrived at a small, cozy café tucked between two clothing shops. The sign above the door read Lavaris Breeze Café, written in elegant golden letters.

Through the windows, warm orange lights glowed softly, and the faint scent of baked pastries drifted out each time the door opened.

Adelia led the way inside.

Amon followed, taking in the gentle music, the quiet hum of conversation, and how the atmosphere felt almost too perfect for a date.

They sat at a table near the window. The sunlight filtering through cast a soft halo over Adelia's green hair, making her look even more unreal.

Amon stared without shame.

Adelia caught him. "Amon… stop staring."

"I can't," he said instantly.

She chuckled this time. This was not something new. She had seen him many times staring at her. "You're impossible…"

When the waitress came, Adelia ordered tea and a lemon tart.

Amon ordered the same, mostly because he was too busy watching her to think of anything else.

She's so gorgeous. His eyes started to go down from her face. Her huge, round– he stopped and looked up again.

'Damn Amon! No dirty thought today!'

After the waitress left, Adelia leaned forward with a soft smile.

"So… how do you like Lunaris Haven so far?"

"It's fun," Amon answered honestly. "But today is the best part so far."

She stared at him with a smile. "You keep saying things that make it difficult for me to stay calm."

"That's the plan," he whispered, grinning.

"Amon!" she hissed, but her smile betrayed her. "Behave."

"Okay, okay…" He chuckled. "Then tell me why you agreed to come on a date with me?"

Adelia blinked. "I… that is… well actually I never had gone on a date with anyone else befor–" Suddenly realization came. She flustered.

"Wait! This is not a date, okay! I just agreed because I wanted to explore the city. And having someone beside as a company is good... yes, that's why I agreed. Nothing else."

She lowered her gaze, fingers tracing the rim of her cup.

"And I thought it would be nice. Spending time with a student outside class… it's a normal thing."

Actually it's not a normal thing to hold hands with students.

Amon wanted to say that. But he chose to remain silent.

She paused. "Also you… make it strangely easy. And comfortable. I won't lie. I enjoy spending time with you. It's kind of fun."

Amon's heart thumped once.

He hadn't expected her to be that honest.

"I'm glad," he said softly. "I like being with you."

Adelia's lashes fluttered, and she cleared her throat.

Their eyes met.

For a moment, the world felt quieter.

The lemon tarts arrived first.

They looked perfect. Soft, golden, with a shiny glaze.

Amon lifted his fork and took a bite.

His eyes widened.

"It's sour!?"

Adelia laughed gently. "Of course. It's lemon tart."

Amon forced himself to chew. "It's attacking my tongue!"

"You really are dramatic…" she said, amused.

"Try it," Amon challenged.

Adelia took a bite gracefully, smiling as she chewed.

"It's refreshing."

Amon sighed. "Maybe my tongue is weak."

Adelia giggled. A soft, melodic sound.

"You are something else."

She reached across the table without thinking, and with a napkin, she wiped a tiny bit of tart cream from the corner of his lip. Gently.

Amon froze.

Adelia also froze.

Both stared at each other, too close.

Amon coughed and looked away.

Adelia jerked her hand back. She observed that Amon was also flustered. She shouldn't act like a teenager. She's the one who is adult here.

She smiled mischievously. Now she would tease him. "Look at you. Getting shy and flustered by small gestures. Just two days ago you were enjoying pats from me. Now here getting red over this small move."

Amon looked at her. He remained silent and just gazed at her. As she met his eyes.

Then Amon burst into laughter. "Hahaha~ well it's true I am getting shy today. I mean... professor, you are just... too charming. I can't help it. This feels too much romantic."

Her face turned bright red.

"You really are bad student. Tch!" She clicked her tongue.

Amon laughed again. But now he decided to ask her something that was on his mind. "So Professor Adelia... can you tell me about your big brother... I have heard some students talking about him."

The day he got pat from Adelia he did hear murmurs. About, does he not fear her brother. So he became curious about it.

Adelia thought for a while. "Well it seems you really don't know about my brother. His name is Caspian Evangeline. He is two years older than me. He is at the peak of fifth rank. A Transcendent."

Amon listened carefully. He was amazed knowing that her brother was so strong. He know that she belongs to Marquis Evangeline family that look over territory name Ridgelands...rather it's their territory.

She continued to eat. "He's a little overprotective of me. Always saying that he will be the one who will find me a perfect man to marry. When I was in first year at the Academy, my brother was in his third year. He literally had warned every boy in the Academy to never approach me with bad intentions. Let alone flirting or dating."

Then she sighed. "Maybe because of that... no one ever tried to ask me out on a date during Academy time. Even when he graduated. Damn, my brother really had made a name for himself. Feared by all students. He will be next head of our family."

"In my case, when I graduated, I got a lot busy. And here I am now."

At her words something caught Amon's attention. He really felt respect for Caspian Evangeline. After all, he had protected his sister really well. She was just too much beautiful. Many men approached her with bad intentions.

Not everyone is like me. He shook his head.

"So professor... does it mean today... is your first date?" He asked casually.

Adelia, who took one bite of her dessert, nodded. "Yes. It's my first date–" She blushed.

"You! How many times should I say it's not a date!" She yelled in annoyance.

While Amon just laughed at her reactions.

'She really looks so cute~'
