The Smiling Death

Chapter 92: Dinner with Professor

Currently, Amon was lying on a bed, not that of his dormitory room, but that of the infirmary.

Amon's eyes flickered open.

What came into his view was a white ceiling. There was a smell of medical herbs in the air. The room's lights were on,the mana lanterns brightening it.

He blinked his eyes a few times. 'This place seems familiar… not again.'

Now he remembered. He fainted after being beaten, he meant after getting defeated by Seraphina.

He was already too tired from practicing sword forms for hours and then fighting against someone like her.

"You're finally awake." The one who called him was none other than Adelia, the beautiful professor in the infirmary.

Amon turned his face toward the voice.

Near the window, sitting in a chair, was a woman with breathtaking beauty. Her long green hair flowed with the soft night's breeze through the window.

Her yellow-golden eyes locked onto Amon. There was a kind smile on her face.

And her large bust… Amon's eyes glanced at it… only for seconds.

He didn't mean anything wrong. He swore.

"Hello, Professor Adelia. Did Seraphina bring me here?" Amon asked politely.

Adelia nodded.

"Yes, she did bring you here. She looked worried. She waited for you to wake up again, but I told her to go. You were too tired, as I guessed. You slept for one hour," she said softly.

'So she was worried about me.' Amon's lips curved into a small smile.

He looked at the wall clock. It was already near eight at night. Then, he gazed at the beauty in front of him again.

Professor Adelia was wearing a turtleneck black T-shirt. Over it was her white lab coat. She was wearing a pencil skirt. Her fair legs were wrapped with black stockings.

'It's not just her chest… but everything about her is amazing,' Amon thought, lost in admiration.

Cough-cough!

Adelia's cough broke Amon from his serious thoughts.

"Oh, Professor Adelia… sorry, I was just lost in thought," he gave her an awkward smile.

Adelia chuckled at Amon's reaction.

"And what might you be thinking so deeply about while staring at me?" she asked him jokingly.

Amon blushed a little. Not because he was shy — he just got flustered by her.

Yes, he was flustered and embarrassed.

"Well, you caught me, Professor… sorry for staring like that," Amon said while rubbing his cheek with his finger.

He gave her an apologetic smile.

"It's alright, boy. You were the same back then — apologizing to me. Anyway, you're feeling good, right?" she asked him.

"Also, it's getting late. You should eat now. It seems you've been training for a lot of hours. You need energy, Amon," she said with a cheerful expression.

'She's cute as well,' Amon thought.

He remained silent for a while.

"I wish I could spend more time with you, Professor. I don't want to go so early," Amon blurted out something unexpected.

His eyes widened. He literally said what was on his mind.

He looked at Adelia.

She was taken aback by his comment. She was surprised.

Adelia blinked twice, her golden eyes widening slightly at Amon's unexpected words. For a while, there was silence. Then, a small, melodic chuckle escaped her lips.

"Hehe… you really are different, Amon," she said softly, shaking her head with amusement. "Saying things like that so bluntly. With that cute and funny face."

Amon scratched his cheek awkwardly, unsure if he should laugh or apologize again.

"I didn't mean to say it out loud…" he muttered, eyes darting away.

'She called me cute!… but funny as well.'He don't know whether to feel happy or embarrassed about it.

Adelia smiled warmly. "Oh? Then maybe it wasn't such a bad thing to say."

Her tone carried a teasing lilt. "If you want to stay longer, then how about having dinner with me here?"

Amon's eyes lit up instantly.

"Eh? Really? I mean—yes! Of course, I'd like that, Professor!"

Her laugh grew softer. "Still easy to please, I see."

With that, Adelia stood up gracefully and walked to her desk. Her long green hair shimmered under the faint orange light of evening pouring through the window.

She used her pager communicator on her desk, placing an order for dinner from the academy's cafeteria.

A few minutes later, a staff member arrived, bowing politely before delivering two trays covered with silver lids.

The scent of warm food quickly filled the infirmary — roasted meat, bread, and a mild herbal soup.

Adelia thanked the staff and turned toward Amon. "Come, sit here. You shouldn't be lying down while eating."

Amon nodded, getting up carefully from the bed. His legs still felt a bit weak, but he managed. He walked to the desk and sat across from her.

For a moment, the two simply looked at each other — teacher and student sharing the quiet of the infirmary, the only sound being the gentle rustling of the night's breeze through the curtains.

"Eat slowly," Adelia said with her usual gentle tone, handing him a spoon. "You must be starving after training like that."

Amon smiled faintly. "Yeah, I guess I pushed myself too far again."

As he ate, he asked, "Professor Adelia, you're alone here. What about your assistants?"

She replied softly, "It was too late. Their shift time ended, so they left half an hour ago. I usually have dinner here. After that, I go back. But I guess I got company for now — not alone like usual." She smiled at him.

Amon listened as he ate the roasted meat, chewing it slowly.

Gulp!

"Oh, Professor, in that case, don't mind having dinner with you every day here," Amon said in a joking tone.

Adelia giggled at him, her eyes curved like crescents.

"Amon, if you came here regularly to have dinner with me, then others might get the wrong idea about it," she replied mischievously.

"That's true… though I don't mind it," Amon chuckled, clearly enjoying the conversation.

They continued eating together, chatting casually between bites — about classes, the academy, and even Seraphina's ridiculous training routines.

Adelia's laughter was soft and musical, while Amon felt oddly relaxed with her.

The warmth of the food and the faint scent of herbs made the night feel calm — almost peaceful.

At one point, Amon glanced up at her again. The warm light of the mana lanterns reflected in her golden eyes, making them glow beautifully.

He forgot about everything else — exhaustion, pain, defeat.

He just smiled.

"Maybe fainting wasn't that bad after all…" he whispered under his breath.

Adelia tilted her head, curious. "Hmm? Did you say something, Amon?"

He quickly shook his head, flustered. "N-no! Nothing, Professor!"

Her soft laugh filled the room again.

And for that brief night, the infirmary no longer felt like a place of rest — but a quiet corner of comfort.
