Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven

Chapter 158: Love Breakers

Naledi watched the approaching beast army, her heart surging with rage. Cannons and railing guns mounted on the city wall facing the army.

These were the new era weapons combining array and modern technology. They had enough fire power to threaten awakened beasts.

The cannons were even a threat to rank 3 beasts. The only problem was, these weapons were costly to make and maintain.

Costing tens of essence stones for a few shot and to maximise their power one had to use higher grade essence stones which was even more costly.

When the army was a kilometre away from the city wall, General Ndlovu shouted. " FIRE." BOOOOM, blue energy cannon balls flew off.

They exploded amidst the beast army, flames spread for hundreds of meters, killing thousands of beasts at the same time.

But as if they were possessed, the beasts continued running towards the city like an avalanche.

He raised his hand, then lowered it. The rattling guns echoed. Enhanced bullets flew like streaks of lights.

Blood and roars of anguish and rage filled the air. Hundreds of beasts died every second but they kept coming endlessly.

Their massive bodies covering the ground like a carpet for as far as she could see. By her estimate, there were probably tens of millions of them.

She couldn't even comprehend how such a massive number of beasts came to be. General Ndlovu always kept watch on the population of the demonic beasts in their territory.

Infact, he even knew the population and military strength of the nearest beast city. So, such a huge army of demonic beasts coming out of nowhere was suspicious.

She turned to General Ndlovu, the only other person besides her teammates to reach rank 4.

" I thought you made sure to cull the numbers of demonic beasts in our territory, care to explain this?"

The general knelt towards her and bowed, " My lady, forgive me for my incompetence, I will accept whatever punishment you deliver."

She sighed, this man was too much of a stickler. However her expression did not change, she continued glaring at him with cold eyes.

" I'll deal with you later, right now we need to deal with this tide." Ndlovu saluted, " Thank you for your mercy my Lady." Deep down she knew this wasn't his fault and didn't really intend to punish him much.

She turned her attention to the beast tide but happened to see Cat trying to jump off the wall into the army below.

Naledi caught her before she could, Cat dangled off the wall with Naledi grabbing her from behind.

" Don't, not yet. You'll have bigger fish to fry later." Cat pouted but didn't argue. Naledi couldn't allow any of her top experts to waste their strength on low rank beasts.

Because they were unfortunately at a disadvantage here, with that many rank 4 beasts. It would take all the strength they had to minimise the casualties.

As Naledi was thinking about how they could prevent casualties, she caught the sight of a black shadow standing behind the army.

It looked a bit familiar but it was too far to clearly make out. Then a powerful roar like that of a dragon thundered and shook the skies.

The hundreds of rank 4 beasts roared in unison, their powerful roars shaking the land and sky and then they moved. The world shook around them as they flew towards the city like moving hills.

Naledi's sword appeared in her hand, everybody summoned their vessels. The real fight was about to begin.

----------------------------------------------------------

At the same time.

" Why?" Naledi asked looking at Ved with confusion. Ved sighed, the sadness in his eyes growing deeper.

Something slowly shifted inside him. ' I know you're there, you don't have to hide.' he heard the sound of clapping hands.

" Amazing, beasts senses are really incredible, I'm envious." He heard a familiar voice, a surge of rage boiled in his heart.

He saw him, walking towards Naledi with a smug grin. He stood next to her then kissed her.

Ved's mind went blank for a moment. He felt like he was drowning. He looked at Naledi with a confused and pleading look, his thoughts jumbled.

' Why?' he asked a second time. ' Why him?' She scoffed, her face contorted with disgust. " Why? Because he's handsome, he's strong and he knows how to handle a lady in bed.

But most of all, he's human. Did you really think I could love a beast, have you ever looked at yourself, with you scales and claws.

You're nothing but a monster now dear Alex, why would I waste my beauty on an ugly beast like you?"

Her words hit him like a hammer. ' No no no no, you're not her you're not her you're not her you're not her. Who are you and what have you done with her?'

Ved's thought were a mess, he was going insane with rage but deep down a part of him told him he was right, this was not her, yet his emotions exploded, clouding his judgement.

She sighed, " Be in denial however you want, it won't change anything. I'm no longer yours and never will be." She kissed Vermilion again who looked at Ved smugly.

At that moment, something cracked inside Ved, a change happened but his mind was too distracted to notice.

' I see, so be it.' his transmission was calm, there was not a hint of anger in it but deep down he was boiling with rage.It spread out reaching the minds of everybody in the surroundings.

Suddenly a group of people appeared and surrounded him on all sides. There were 25 in total, not including Vermilion and Naledi.

Five of them were rank 4 and the rest were rank 3. The rank 4 vessel holders drew closer and the rank 3 retreated a few kilometres.

They took out four massive pillars with arrays circles, each pillar controlled by 5 people. Ved recognised these things, they were formation pillars, specifically used to place a formation barrier.

He knew immediately what they were trying to do but it was too late. Besides, he doubted Vermilion would allow him to interfere and stop them.

A moment later, blue walls appeared in four directions and rose to the sky, forming an upright rectangular prism, Ved was trapped.

Naledi giggled, waved at him and retreated out of the prism. Before Ved could stop her, a white arrow landed Infront of him, drilling a hole on the ground.

He turned and saw a woman in light leather armour with a bow looking at him with cold eyes.

Ved growled threateningly, he looked at the rest of them, ' I'll give you one chance to leave.' in response, they pointed their vessels at him.

' Death it is.'
