Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven

Chapter 166: Failure

Naledi frowned, this battle was much harder than she expected. She jumped to the side dodging a literal falling mountain.

The ground shook and cracks spread for dozens of kilometres. She stabbed her sword on the ground, a massive ice spike grew and stabbed the earth buffalo on the stomach.

She looked around the battlefield and grimaced. The situation was bad, fortunately none of her soldiers had died, she had done her best to make sure of that.

Haruko was also dealing with the massive army of lower ranked beasts to alleviate the pressure off the soldiers leaving the rank 4's to her and the others.

His crowd control technique was perfect for this occasion but things still weren't looking good. The number of rank 4 beasts had barely gone down.

Their durability was much higher, as if..then something clicked. These beasts were fearless like when there's a blood moon.

She looked at them, looked closely and realised something she didn't before. Deep in their eyes, there was a hint of red, it was barely there, hard to notice but she saw it.

She was certain now, someone had artificially induced the blood moon effect, plus the beast attracting power, ' Is that even possible?' she wondered.

However she knew that whoever did this intended to destroy her city no doubt. She knew it wasn't the time to be playing games anymore.

However these beasts were much stronger than normal, they were fearless and had much faster regeneration due to the blood moon effect.

Killing so many of them would take some effort, even for her. She appeared next to Aira like a shadow.

" I need you to focus your barrier around the city, forget about us." Aira looked shocked, she was focusing most of her power to protecting the soldiers.

Even with Haruko there, there were still too many beasts for him to kill all of them by himself.

Aira conjured invisible barriers around the soldiers, the barriers weren't particularly too strong but they were enough to stop an attack from a rank 3 beast.

That's why the soldiers lasted so long without casualties even though they were outnumbered by so much. Naledi also knew doing this would lead to casualties but she had a bad feeling about all of this.

Aira didn't understand why Naledi would suddenly order her to do something like this but she trusted her.

Naledi was about to jump back into fight when an unexpected change occurred. From the distance, from the direction of the beast city, a red flare was shot to the sky.

The moment she saw it, she knew it was bad, it gave her the same feeling as the blood moon but much weaker.

Still, weak as it might be, it would still make the beast army stronger than it already was. " STOP THAT THING." she shouted while pointing at it.

Unfortunately it was too far and the cannons couldn't reach that far away. The others also lacked long ranged attacks so it was up to her.

The flare was over four thousand kilometres away, a long distance indeed. However her abilities had a really wide area of effect.

" Snow fall." She whispered, this was a simple technique that creates snow in a certain region.

However she had absolute control over that snow, allowing her to attack from any direction regardless of distance as long as the snow is there.

Dark clouds covered the sky for as far as the eye could see. Everybody in her city and the beast city looked up at the sudden change.

The snow around it moved and formed a sphere around the red flare trapping it inside.

She was about to sigh with relief when the flare simply fazed through the snow sphere. She looked at it flabbergasted.

She had no idea what just happened, it was as if the flare was nothing but an illusion. Her snow couldn't interact with it at all.

She watched it soar to the sky, it went past the layer of dark clouds and continued flying up until it reached a thousand kilometres above ground.

It stood there for frozen in the air, she knew whatever follows will not be good. The others knew as well.

They all activated their soul force. The beast army stood still like statues. " Vessel Awakening Second Phase: Winter's Valkyrie."

Snow gathered around her forming a massive snow cyclon. When it dispersed she appeared.

Beautiful as an angel with ice blue eyes, long blue hair that ended in white tips, dark skin that seemed to dim even the lights around her. In her Valkyrie form, her hair was long enough to touch the ground.

She was adorned in ice blue armour with a snowflake on it chest. Behind her, a long white cape danced in the wind and a pair of snow white wings gently flapped.

However she wasn't done, an image of an empress appeared behind her. Her aura skyrocketed shaking the beast army with fear.

The temperature dropped so low a layer of ice formed on their skin. Rank 1 beasts died directly from the cold and even rank 2 beasts were shivering.

Then the flare exploded, red light washed over the entire battlefield. She created an ice disk above the army to block the light to no avail, it passed through it like it was not even there

The beasts growled, their eyes turned red and a blood red mist covered their bodies strengthening them by multiple times.

They roared and lunged, they were moving much faster than before. Naledi swung her sword horizontally.

A blue crescent slash flew out, it was faster and stronger than it ever was. They fired their own attacks to intercept it but unlike last time, this time it reached them.

The sword slash exploded forming a wide frozen area, 6 beasts stood frozen like statues, the cold having frozen even their blood.

Before the others could react, massive ice hands came out of the ground and crushed those with weaker bodies.

Naledi was on a killing spree but she knew this wouldn't last for long, neither her image or Valkyrie form could be maintained for very long.

She was about to attack again when she heard multiple screams behind her. She turned and saw a few of her soldiers being ripped apart.

She gritted her teeth, she wanted to help but she was running on borrowed time. Then she heard a loud roar next to her.

She turned and saw general Ndlovu being overwhelmed by 5 beasts, their leader was a massive snow wolf.

It bit his arm and flung him to the ground, before he could get up, the other four pinned him down.

His vessel was an obsidian scale, it allowed him to cover his entire body with scales so densely packed they look like a single piece with no gabs.

While increasing his size and weight at the same time, he was physically strong and durable, she knew he will be fine.

The issue was, his fall created a gab in their defense. Before any of them could react the wolf lunged towards the city.

Aira's vessel glowed and the barrier became much stronger. Naledi also intervened and attacked the wolf.

A massive ice sword descended from the sky to cleave it in half but just as it was about to cut the wolf, a massive silver bird appeared and blocked the sword.

The sword cut deep into it flesh but failed to cleave it in half. The wolf left unscathed, it howled and shot a beam of ice at the barrier.

The barrier held but there was a small crack on it, just as they were all about to sigh with relief, a small fist sized white bird flew towards it like a bullet.

The bird was so fast only Naledi could follow it movements. It punched a hole through the barrier. " NOOOOOOOO." Naledi screamed by it was too late.

Another bird with red feathers shot a small fireball through the tiny hole and they watched as it landed on the city then BOOOOM.

" I.. failed?" She whispered in disbelief.
