Ved closed his eyes and activated his dream mist. The ability he intended to use was new and required a lot of will and mental energy.

It also needed him to be close to the target to be more effective. Which is why he had to be inside the city.

His mind split into millions of tiny fragments and using the will in his dream mist. He invaded the dreams of the humans in the city.

This ability was almost impossible to use on a rank 4 who is not asleep , which is why he needed them to fall asleep but forcefully putting so many people to sleep is not easy.

So he just made them a bit sleepy and everything else happened on it own. His intentions here was to read their memories through their dreams.

While dreams aren't reliable sources of information, they are made of memories, desires and fears of people.

Ved had a feeling he would be able to separate those and can dig deeper into the person's mind through the dreams themselves.

Ved had once read that the heavens had other dimensions overlapping with the mortal realm.

Dimensions like the mirror realm, the shadow realm which Avery can enter when teleporting through her shadows.

The spatial layer realm which is just another layer of space. Anybody who uses space teleportation can travel through this realm.

There's also the mystic realm which is the source of magic and the home of magical beings like genies. One of those dimensions is the dream realm.

After reaching rank 5, Ved could enter this dream realm using the dream mist but only with his consciousness. The reason for that is simple.

When one reaches rank 5, their image thus will, connect with the heavens. As a result, they touch upon laws.

Of course they can't control actual laws until they reach rank 7 but they passively use a diluted version called intent.

Only few beings can actually control intent and they're most rank 6 but the attacks or any ability of a rank 5 naturally has a level of intent to it.

It's also the reason the attacks of projection realms can slightly harm the soul as well. This intent makes each action of yours much more powerful.

Which is why he can now enter the dream realm. He can use the dream realm to enter people's actual dreams not just the illusions he used to conjure.

The huge difference is that, his illusions were merely mind construct that didn't exist. The dreams in the dream realm are very much real.

When a person dreams, a fragment of their soul enters the dream realm. While powerful being are aware of their dreams and rarely dream.

They can't influence them, only one connected to the law of dreams can influence or enter the dreams of others.

They can even use them to harm the target, permanently change their memories without them even noticing, give them suggestions or in extreme cases, trap their consciousness and putting then in an endless dream, unable to wake up.

Or just observe their memories through dreams. However the target would have to go to sleep and not be unconscious.

They also can't be aware they were put to sleep artificial or they would resist sleeping and he would be forced to use more will to force them into sleeping.

To be honest he could already do most of those things with dream mist before but it was less efficient.

He also had to use a blood clone to parasite their brains but now, he can do it remotely and much easier without wasting mental energy.

Dream mist shrouded his body, his mind sunk into the dream realm. The dream realm was a massive space.

It had nebulae made of colourful sands and the entire space was filled with infinite stars made of golden sands.

Each star represented the personal dream realm of every single living creature. These stars rarely connect which is why people never share dreams.

Even if they had similar or the same dreams, each dream would be independent of another.

The only time he could think of when dreams collided was when he and Naledi shared a dream but he wasn't even sure if that really happened since he woke up right after.

He floated through this space flying forward like a streak of light. He could instinctively sense his own dream star.

However it was inactive since he wasn't actually dreaming. He could also sense the dream stars each of his split consciousness was connected to.

Ved stopped flying when he reached a particular dream star. This belonged to the strongest rank 4 in the city.

A paladin of the church of Dawn which is why it needed his strongest consciousness. Without a second thought he entered the star of sand. His other split consciousness did so as well.

One of them appeared in what looked like old earth. He appeared behind a little girl, she was holding her mother's hand and her father could be seen running towards them.

The girl was young, barely 5 and the faces of her parents were blurry, it was obvious she couldn't remember them clearly.

Ved didn't understand the dream until he did. The world shook, a blinding light filled the sky.

What followed was a wave of unexplainable energy. A pet cat of an older woman mutated in real life.

It became as huge as a tiger and ate it owner. People screamed, her parents tried to protect her but huge rats ran out of the sewers and ate her mother, her father was swooped by a huge bird.

She stood frozen unable to move. A huge dog lunged at her. While Ved knew this was merely a dream he still felt pity for her.

He blew white mist and the dream crumbled and he appeared floating within her dream star.

At the centre was an island of golden sand. The island was connected to thousands of crystal fragments.

Each crystal was a representations of her memories, fears and desires. This is what he was looking for.

He couldn't just access them as the barriers around them especially the memory crystals were too strong.

The easier way was to drag them to the dream island creating a dream then using the dream as a passage to access the memories.

However after searching for a while he didn't see any memory with any indication of her being one of his targets, she was clean, infact the woman was one of the rare kind people in this fucked up world.

Before leaving he decided to help her. He couldn't conjure up a dream out of thin air, that would be a massive waste of mental energy however he can drag the crystals into the island, allowing her mind to create the dream itself.

Ved looked through the crystal fragments and saw one that looked peaceful. With a tug of his will the crystal fragment moved towards the island creating a more peaceful dream for the woman.

Then he used it to access her memories. In these memories the faces of her parents were clearer.

This was another wonder of the brain. Even if you couldn't fully remember something, it's still existed in your memories.

Ved simply helped her mind remember, although her parents died during the fall over a hundred years ago and when she was only around 5.

Their memories still existed in her mind. After helping the woman he left her dream star. Other split consciousnesses who left other dream stars merged with this one.
