Adebayo arrived at High Gate City. This city used to belong to the spiritual beasts race before they took over.
The city was now divided into three sectors each separated by tall walls. At the centre of the high sector where the strongest and those of noble blood live was a huge black tower.
The humans had never been able to figure out the inner workings of these towers. They knew they held the lineage techniques but they couldn't access them.
And they couldn't destroy the tower as well. It walls were covered by runic arrays that deflected all attacks no matter how powerful.
Eventually they gave up, until the truly skilled formation specialist of the Eternal Dawn Empire arrived, there was nothing they could do.
Next to the tower stood a massive cathedral as if competing with the tower for dominance. This cathedral was the church of Dawn.
Inside it was a statue of a man with a burning sun floating behind his head like a halo. The people of the Eternal Dawn knew him as their God.
But those who rule and stand at the peak of the empire knew this was the old ancestor of the empire. A sovereign being.
Adebayo entered the church and knelt below the statue. He prayed but nothing happened then he smiled and left.
He went through the church and the entire inner circle. Smiling and greeting everybody he saw.
" Priest Adebayo, how nice to see you." A fat man with a lot of jewellery greeted him with a fake smile. Adebayo smiled kindly and bowed but he said nothing and continued on his way.
The man looked at him strangely. He looked at the servants carrying his chair. " Do you think lord Adebayo is acting strange today?"
There was no answer, the servants did not dare utter a single word. Amongst them were members of different races.
All of the servants carrying his chair were spiritual beasts used as mounts. Whip marks covered their bodies.
However they weren't the only ones, accompanying him were also human servants and those from other races.
Although the Eternal Dawn Empire claimed they were protectors of humanity, they only protected those who accept the church of Dawn.
Anybody else was treated like a slave, if you refused to worship Dawn they didn't even consider you human.
The fat merchant shook his head. What he didn't see were wisp of invisible mist that he breathed in.
Adebayo continued, everywhere he passed he crushed a tiny white ball. Invisible mist would spill out and cover the entire area.
In less than a day, everybody in the city had already sucked in the dream mist. Ved watched everything on the clouds above the city.
Ved thought back to the day before. When he created the dream mist. He didn't actually attack anybody.
He couldn't read the memories of somebody as powerful as Adebayo using only the dream mist.
What he needed to do was break his mind first. Fortunately after his evolution, the dream mist became much more powerful.
Using it he infected Adebayo's mind. Instead of conjuring a dream for him, Adebayo would unknowingly create his own nightmares.
The most terrifying thing about this ability is that figuring out it's an illusion doesn't help. Everything feels very real as the illusion can control all of your senses including touch and taste.
The only two ways to break out is because mentally stronger or have a will almost if not rivaling Ved's. The second way is to let go of all of your fears which is incredibly hard if not impossible.
And it didn't just work with nightmares or fears, it can use your obsessions to trap you in a dream state as well, it was a very insidious ability.
As Adebayo watched his people die one by one and being unable to help, his mind started breaking slowly.
However his breaking point was when he killed his daughter and was abandoned by his god and eventually losing all of his powers becoming weak again.
Of course none of it actually happened, it was all in his mind. A manifestation of his own fears.
Being helpless, being the one to harm his child and being abandoned by his God were all of his greatest fears.
But above all of them was being weak after standing on top for so long. As a result of experiencing all of his fears, his mind broke and it barriers crumbled.
This allowed Ved to read all of his memories and god were they disgusting. Ved already read the memories of Adebayo's subordinates after eating them whole.
The Gene Mimic ability was insane in that matter. He could read all of their memories like he was there.
Even experience their emotions and through them he finally knew the terror of indoctrination.
The things these people had done in the name of their god would make the devil throw up.
The worst part was, they didn't even think they were wrong, they saw themselves as the righteous ones.
He could've done the same to Adebayo but he wanted to use him as a messenger instead.
A priest would leave a more lasting image in the hearts of the people and could reach more restricted places, so he couldn't eat his brain, he was forced to use the less reliable dream mist method.
Fortunately it worked. Ved floated above the city, his stealth on so nobody could see him. Night came and people went to sleep.
Even those powerful people that don't need much sleep felt strangely sleepy that night and went to sleep.
The only person who remained awake was the leader of the city, the projection realm priest, Ved couldn't effect somebody that powerful so easily.
He watched as the clergymen and others went to sleep. He was confused since he knew they would be fine even if they don't go to sleep for an entire year but he brushed it off.
He figured the expedition to spread the word in this world had taken a toll on them. He continued his business preparing for another day of work tomorrow.
Ved on the other hand flew down, his body transformed. The transformation was a bit painful but nothing he couldn't handle.
By the time he landed, he looked human. After he ate close to a hundred people, he naturally obtained the complete genetic makeup of a human.
He landed on top of a building, his stealth was still active. Ved frowned, the amount of mental energy needed to keep this form active huge.
Even if he did nothing else and just sat around, he doubted he could keep it for a week.
Suddenly a figure appeared on the roof next to him. He was only a few metres away from Ved.
It was the projection realm priest. The priest with a wrinkled face looked up and frowned. " Strange, I thought I felt something. Perhaps I'm getting old." He teleported back to the church.
Ved sighed, stealth is still as powerful as ever. Then he created clothes using his web, he sat down with his feet dangling over the edge of the building.
" Let begin."
