Chapter 75: Knights' armor

Knights' armor

John accessed his storage and drew the twin swords that Alex had given him. He didn't know exactly what to do with them but hoped they would be of some use.

The black swords, glowing faintly in purple, rested in his hands.

"How do I summon a knight?"

Before Feliciana had time to respond, the swords crackled with lightning, revealing a female knight whose face showed no expression.

Long white hair tied in a ponytail, eyes as pure as the winter snow, and a purple, gleaming skin that emitted crackling sparks of electricity her body was covered by a black suit of armor.

Alex stared in astonishment at the figure that had just appeared. He wasn't the only one everyone around him was equally surprised by the beauty in armor and white hair.

The knight surveyed her surroundings, raised her twin blades, and vanished, reappearing beside Smoke in a burst of electricity.

Displaying absurd speed, the knight swung her short sword toward Smoke's head, who retreated just in time to avoid the life-threatening strike.

The other knight swung his spear with flawless mastery, joining his companion in the assault. He attacked the very instant Smoke dodged the previous strike, his spear thrusting straight toward the enemy's heart.

Smoke revealed a lazy, mocking smile as the spear pierced through his body.

It seemed as though the weapon had only pierced air, causing no real harm. Taking advantage of the opening, Smoke counterattacked, his fists glowing with a dim gray light.

Before the knight could be hit, the female knight appeared, bringing her sword down in a descending slash to intercept the blow. The blade failed to pierce the opponent's flesh, and a shockwave spread out, forcing both of them to retreat.

The female knight then unleashed several purple electric orbs toward her enemy. Smoke dodged some of them with remarkable agility, his body dissolving into mist as he swiftly evaded the attacks.

The knight swung his spear and created an ice barrier that split the corridor in two, causing great restriction.

Witnessing the fight in front of them, John turned to Feliciana, signaling for them to escape.

The two hunter agents from the Hunters Association, together with the hostages they had freed, took advantage of the moment when Smoke and the knights exchanged blows to flee.

They then froze in place, unable to flee; the first to fall were the hostage girls, dark blood flowing from every orifice.

Feliciana's vision turned red as black blood flowed from her eyes, mouth, ears, and the remaining orifices of their bodies.

She panicked when the system warning sounded belatedly.

System warning:

You are under the effect of a poisonous sand field.

Your HP will drop per second until your life is completely extinguished.

Feliciana didn't need the system to tell her the obvious; her HP began to fall rapidly with each passing second, she coughed violently feeling unbearable pain in her lungs.

The hostages elsewhere were already dead, lying on the ground; their skin was gray and completely dried out.

John approached Feliciana, who coughed nonstop while trembling violently.

"What's wrong with you…?" Before John finished his words, his vision also turned red and blood began to flow from his orifices.

"It finally took effect; give my regards to the Creator for me, tell him to take good care of my mother and when I finish here I will join her." Smoke laughed out loud.

His laughter intensified more and more as Feliciana and John coughed, unable to respond to his provocation.

The two knights approached the humans they were supposed to protect; they exchanged a look, seeking silent counsel from one another.

Smoke broke the ice that held him, his face contorting into a manic laugh.

"I didn't need to make a move and you are already dying how weak low-level hunters are!"

Feliciana closed her eyes, focusing on her authority. She had to survive, no matter the price to pay. Her eyes closed and opened countless times, but nothing happened.

It was as if her imminent death was somehow immutable. Feliciana couldn't understand why her authority was failing at that moment. She expressed her desire to survive and that she would pay the corresponding price.

Her condition continued to worsen despite her efforts. John was in a better state than Feliciana, but even so, the final result for him would be the same only delayed.

"Alex, don't come here, run away as fast as you can." John grabbed his communicator with great effort and spoke, hoping the mission leader would hear and heed his words.

"It's too dangerous, call for help, get everyone else out of here," John said amid bloody coughs, his speech broken by interruptions.

John had no strength left; he collapsed, his mind growing dim. It seemed Feliciana had succumbed, losing consciousness, her body trembling slightly.

Then the knights decided to act. Their master had ordered them to protect the humans at all costs and that was exactly what they would do.

The two turned into violet lights, dropping their weapons and entering the bodies of John and Feliciana.

Smoke looked at both of them, his smile fading from his face. He assumed the summons had been undone because the hunters who had invoked them were dead or about to die.

He didn't care about the weapons on the ground. He simply put his hands in his pockets and decided to move toward the presence approaching him.

Then, a miracle happened.

The bodies of the two who had apparently died stood up and walked toward the weapons on the ground.

Smoke stopped in his tracks and looked back, his brow furrowed.

Feliciana slowly regained consciousness and saw her body move without her will.

She walked with erratic steps and held the black spear in her hands, feeling the cold invade her body.

John did the same and felt exactly the same way; he gripped the twin blades, and electricity surged through him.

Feliciana's hair turned into a bright blue, her eyes gleamed like the ocean, her skin turned purple, and a black armor covered her body.

John's hair became as white as his eyes, his skin turned purple with crackling bolts of electricity, and a black armor replaced his beloved suit from the Hunters Association.

The two hunters of the association looked at each other, revealing the same degree of astonishment.
