Alex joins the battle

Feliciana's hair turned into a bright blue, her eyes became as brilliant as the ocean, her skin turned purple, and a black armor covered her body.

John's hair turned white like his eyes, his skin turned purple with crackling streaks of electricity, and a black armor replaced his beloved suit from the Hunters Association.

The two hunters of the association looked at each other, revealing the same degree of surprise.

The feeling their bodies gave them was strange, Feliciana and John felt as if they weren't the ones controlling their bodies, yet the bodies still obeyed their will.

When Feliciana wanted to do something, her body moved accordingly.

"Ha! How disappointing, weren't you already dead? What kind of ability did you use?" Smoke took one of his hands out of his pocket and scratched his chin.

"Do we look dead to you?" John pointed one of his swords at Smoke.

In response, Smoke shook his head in denial. "I'll fix that for you, don't worry, soon you'll be dead without a doubt."

Smoke stretched his limbs, releasing mist through the spores of his body, he raised his dominant hand, pointing a knife that he had drawn from his inventory.

Smoke turned into mist and blended with the surroundings, Feliciana and John looked around, searching for the enemy.

When the mist revealed itself, he was right behind Feliciana, the knife descended so fast that she couldn't use her spear to block, if someone was too close, the spear would become useless.

Feliciana moved to the side and saw her face being cut, pain assaulted her, making her scream, Smoke vanished again, John's sword swung at the exact instant Smoke disappeared, cutting only through the air.

Smoke's laughter echoed everywhere, making it difficult for the two to locate where the sound was coming from.

Feliciana's cut face returned to normal as if it had never been wounded, her purple face looked flawless.

Smoke appeared again, this time his target was John, however, John anticipated the attack, his body shone with electricity, his white eyes emanated a light that patterned his movements.

He moved quickly, and his sword blocked the knife Smoke was using, while the other sword swung toward the opponent's neck, Smoke's eyes widened for an instant.

When the sword was just a millimeter away from hitting the target, Smoke split into mist, dispersing into the air, John was visibly frustrated, he had been just a moment away from taking down his prey.

Seeing Smoke condensing in a different spot, Feliciana swung her spear and fired an icy bolt, Smoke didn't vanish immediately, he dodged the attack.

The two rushed toward Smoke, who had just drawn another knife from his storage, John was faster, the two knives and swords clashed, filling the air with sparks.

Seeing the clash, Feliciana's spear came from behind, aiming for a vital organ, Smoke didn't let that happen, he used more strength and pushed John backward, then Smoke spun in the air.

The spear missed its target, the tip pierced Smoke's shoulder, who took advantage of the opening to strike Feliciana's abdominal area.

The black armor blocked the knife, giving John an opportunity to attack again, several lightning spheres advanced toward Smoke in succession.

Before Smoke could be hit, his body turned into mist, and the lightning spheres passed through him, hitting Feliciana, who used an ice wall to protect herself.

Smoke appeared in a different place.

"Not bad, it seems these armors have raised you to the peak of a two-star hunter, allowing you to cause some damage to a three-star hunter, but unfortunately for you, that's all."

Smoke clapped his hands, giving the two a provoking look.

"It's a pity that you can't use this power well. I'd dare say this is your first time your movements are uncoordinated, as if your bodies aren't really yours."

John frowned, he was having trouble controlling his new form. He was incredibly fast, even though images appeared in his mind showing what and how he should do things, everything was still too difficult for him.

He felt far from his comfort zone, normally, John fought like an assassin, now instead of his dagger, he had two swords to fight with.

Feliciana was also quite disoriented, she was a mage, but now she had to fight like a warrior, using a spear instead of her traditional staff, her movements were mechanical and clumsy.

If the two had been fighting against a regular two-star hunter, they would have easily won despite the difficulty in properly controlling their bodies, but the problem was that both were facing a three-star hunter.

And as if that wasn't enough, the damn three-star hunter didn't even seem to be taking them seriously as opponents.

"You should know that three-star hunters aren't someone mere low-level hunters should face, shouldn't you? Well, your luck is that my class isn't focused on combat, but even so, you'll die here today."

Having said that, a growing aura exploded from Smoke's body, thick mist filled the entire room, his black eyes turned gray, and his nails and teeth turned a dark black.

The mist instantly surrounded the entire residence, everything around Smoke began to corrode, including the armors protecting the bodies of the two hunters from the Hunters Association.

The mist was so thick that sight could no longer be used, Feliciana and John turned their backs to each other, focusing their other senses to defend themselves from any attack Smoke might launch.

They felt a wave of HP flooding their bodies, making their skin and armor regenerate at a visible rate, keeping up with the wear.

The two looked at the nearby walls with great difficulty, the structure would collapse at any moment.

Feliciana conjured an ice barrier to protect them both, but the barrier didn't remain active for long, because the surrounding mist corroded it too quickly.

If it weren't for the armor that regenerated their bodies, the two knew they would be dead without a shadow of a doubt, they couldn't see their opponent, and their other senses were equally useless.

John looked at Feliciana, who was just a few centimeters away, and asked urgently.

"Can't you use a wind spell to blow this dense mist away?"

In response, Feliciana nodded, she spun the spear as if it were a staff and cast a wind spell the most powerful one she had ever cast.

From the tip of the spear, a cutting wind spiraled with a ferocity Feliciana hadn't expected, if she had used her MP, the spell wouldn't have been as strong as it was now.

The part of the mist that obstructed their vision was cleared, revealing their enemies and the surrounding environment for an instant.

At the same moment the wind cut through, Smoke protected his prey with both knives in his hands, and before John could make a move, something happened.

Everyone felt the gravity tremble, a light with crackling lightning accompanied by a gravitational disturbance cut through the air in a flawless display of speed.

Before any of them realized what had happened, they all saw a purple figure appear right above Smoke, the figure's hand grabbed the criminal's neck, and in the blink of an eye, Smoke was slammed to the ground with such speed and force that the floor trembled.

Bolts of electricity spread through the crater that had formed right before everyone's widened eyes.

It was then that the newly arrived figure was revealed.

It was their leader.

Alex stood up, his long hair swaying in the wind, his bright purple eyes glowing, and in his hand a majestic sword curved and covered in spikes.

"You finally showed up, I was wondering why you were taking so long."

Smoke condensed again, holding his neck and smiling slightly.

"If I hadn't dispersed in time, I'd be dead or at least seriously injured." Smoke stretched, relaxing his neck.

***

Alex looked at Feliciana and John, who now looked more like his knights it was truly strange, he hadn't known that such a thing was possible, it was a fusion of some sort.

The knights or rather, Feliciana and John walked forward and knelt on one knee before Alex, who didn't understand their behavior.

"What are you doing? Stand up," Alex asked, looking into their eyes.

The two stood up but said nothing, strange Alex wondered if they had lost the ability to speak just like his knights.

Alex could feel all four of them, his knights and the hunters who, somehow, were two in total instead of four.

"Was it you who killed these people?" Alex pointed to several girls dead on the ground at a distance from his position.

He decided to leave the mystery about his knights for later.

"Ho! Maybe? Probably me." Smoke shrugged.

"Now that you've arrived I can finally get rid of all of you at once, including the rats outside."

The tired and annoyed look on Smoke's face disappeared.

In its place a serious and assino face took over.

The aura around his body intensified, making everything tremble.
